Have to get a new battery due to the old one unable to be charged.(let it set during the winter). My question is what battery charger is best for charging and maintenance. I've seen a Schmacker that looks goods with the window that lets you read how many amps are going in.
well thanks,

on board only way to fly

after screwing around portable chargers for years I put a onboard charger in, best thing since sliced bread. you want a 3 stage charger, the bass pro shop brand is made by pro mariner and is a great charger for the price, catch them on sale and it they are very reasonable. on board or portabe look for a fully automatic 3 stage charger.http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/s...lts?ordProd=Y&CMID=TOP_selectitems#itemDetail

Battery charger

Thats some good info! I have a Minn Kota 2 battery charger. Its real easy to use once you have it mounted on the boat, just run the ext. cord & plug in! I had a Minn Kota trolling motor on the old boat & plugged it in at nite then its ready to go again in the morning!
thumbsup....Kokonuts

This is the brand charger on my toon, just can't remember the exact model. Works great. I plug it into an outlet on my garage the night before and she's ready to go first thing in the AM. What I would really like though is a charger that will charge while my boat engine is running. Anyone out there have any knowledge of a good brand in that catagory?

Check out the Lazarus charging system, at In-Fisherman. com. It has a couple of plans for charging on the run. Hope this helps

When I read the reviews online about this charger, there are complaints about product reliability. Bass Pro seems to stand behind the product more than the manufacturer.

I read thoose reviews also, I have been real happy with mine and actually have 2 now since I upgraded to a 24v troll motor, have not had problems. Bass and walleye boat mag did a good article a few years ago comparing the diff brands, promariner faired well. Some others overcharged and cooked the batterys, not trying to sell that brand :), just letting ya know my experiences....

Bob,

A good friend of mine that guides in Florida sent me this link "Charge as you go". He swears by it:

http://www.yandina.com/troll24data.htm

Allows you to charge your other batteries while your cruising.

allot of the guys that spend weeks at a time at powell run similar setups, great if your spending allot of extend time on the water where you don't get back to an ac outlet for a week....thats a problem I would like to have :)

Windriver,
Thanks for the info. Mountain home is okay. Very windy right now, even more than usual. I'll be retired from here in 2 years unless I get an assignment.
