I took Maverick & Notbart up to the Gorge on Monday; Maverick has never seen the Utah side from a boat and after reading and hearing of the tough conditions on the Wyoming side we launched the boat at Sheep Creek and headed to the dam. The ride was perfect, no wind and nothing but blue skies as far as the eye could see. Showed Maverick the suspension bridge and took time to photograph the bald eagle nested atop this marvel of civil engineering. Around 1100 we proceeded to the Eastern shoreline and dropped down to 45’ on the #1 rigger, the water temp was 66.5 and clear. Within 30 mins I hooked our first koke on a RMT Pearlescent squid behind a 6” Bahama Mama at 1.7mph a typical Utah Koke in the 14” class. About 20 Mins later Notbart hooked into another at 40’ using an RMT MaiTai Serpent Spoon, then it was Mavericks Rod also on a MaiTai Serpent Spoon. Notbart hooked into another on a MaiTai Squid behind a 6” Bahama Mama. By the time we trolled back to Carter Creek we had hooked into quite the mixed bag of Bows, Pup-Macks & Kokes. The MaiTai Spoon or Squid seemed to be more consistent throughout the day than anything else. However; the bite ranged anywhere from 20 – 50 mins apart. When we pulled off the lake @ 6:00pm the water temp had risen to 68 degrees.

Decided to head to Squaw Hollow on Tuesday and headed over deep water near the Ranch a lot of debris in the water. It was a real challenge to keep lines down as debris would cause a lot of releases, Maverick picked up a nice Bow in 20’ of water on a double glow pink squid behind a 6” Nickel Glow blade. Rainbows seemed to be the theme of the morning as we proceeded to pick up 3 more in the 18 -20” range. Found the first Koke at 45’ near Wildhorse on the MaiTai serpent spoon, a nice male in the 18” class. Worked our way back to the Ranch and finally found a decent Koke 3.9 lb on a #00 Mepps Brown Trout Syclops. The fishing was SLOW but not a bad day, the wind didn’t kick up until 5:00pm when we pulled up and headed back to Manila.

Wednesday we headed back to Sheep creek and trolled from Carter Creek through hideout and back to the main bay via the northern pass around the island. Almost an exclusive Kokanee day picked up several on various combinations of Pink. Just as we were pulling out of the canyon from carter creek into hideout Notbart’s pole took off, it was a nice 3.2 lb Koke on the Pink Lady Blade and cotton candy squid. *This was the first time we used the Pink Lady since I made it and go figure a Male Koke nailed it. The koke bite was consistent right up until 3:00pm, started trolling 40 - 45’ in the morning and moved down to 50 - 60’ in the late afternoon. Pulled up at 5:00 pm and headed back to SLC to work on Thursday & Friday.
