A big thank you to all that helped gather and care for this years fish and everyone else that support the Kokanee Organizations in California. Without this support we would not have a fishery.

Great info.
I'm curious about Folsom, I don't recal ever hearing a koke report from there. I've fished Del Valle on occasion, but never for kokes. I'm kicking myself because it's about 20 minutes from the project I've been working on for the last 2 years and I'm about to wrap up which means relocating.

Thanx HiTech

Dont worry your not missing anything.
Folsom, inspite of the high plant numbers, has a poor survival rate and no one seems to catch them.
Del Valle also has a poor survival rate mainly because of the stripers. However, kokanee have been caught in Del Valle. Nice ones I might add, but are very rare. I haven't yet heard of one this year. Theres kings too and they are a little more common and every once in a while someone lands a pig!
The current plant numbers are nearly double so we may see a handfull in coming years.
Looks like the Berry numbers are up too! thumbsup

Fireball - Folsom has yet to produce a documented matured Kokanee last I heard from the DFG from the grape vine but they are interested in anyone getting. I remember last year Ric Brown of KokaneeMart had a reward for one as an incentive for people to fish for them since hardly anyone does. I believe this will be the last year they try it as plants have been going on for several years now. If they get some catches reported to DFG then they consider planting. It used to support Kokanee in the distant past.
As for Del Valle, technically the closest lake for me, my daughter and I documented the first reported ones for the DFG in 07 that were as big as Berryessa ones that year, fat -16 and 17 inchers. I was a doubter as well with the Stripers but some did survive and did quite well among the Stripers. My downfall was I should have fished for them earlier in the season there as it we Sept 2 and 15th and amazingly the first one was caught at the same depth with the Stripers in a near double! Apparently some Marina folks have claimed to have caught some last year but if nobody reports them to the DFG with pictures then plants may dis-continue. I have not seen any other pictures of any publicly for two years now. Here's a blast from the past with the pictures from Del Valle in 07... I encourage anyone to go fish for them there... go to Heron Bay and target the NorthEast to NorthWest corridor as a starting point. Last year would have been a poor year to fish due to the low plant in 06 but this year has potential if I could take time out from Berryessa and various derbies. :-)

awesome news kevin, i just wish pa would get with it and try some sort of salmon program like your state does, we have a few lakes that fit koke criteria well, but our commision guys apparantely think otherwise,, it gets expensive traveling back home to ct to get my kokanee fishing incrymeariver

HiTech- if you ever decide to go to del valle and target them, I can go too as I am about 30 minutes away as the crow flies. We can do a double team, I got a couple of electric DR's on my 14 ft LUND. I always wondered about the kokes in there. Look forward to your posts.

Sounds good. It would be nice to have more than one guy targeting at the same time to share some notes while on the water. If the weather cools down a bit I'll head over there for an "In Search of" episode.

Once again IVR is on the list.If they continue to drain this place then fish and game should just put theese fish somewhere else, unless they are just trying to feed bass and catfish.
This is from september 2010. doesnt look that bad but its only around 60' deep at its deepest point. At around 1400' high it just warms up too much to have a cold water fishery. We used to pull big rainbows and probably the biggest kokanee in the state out of this lake.

The launch ramp about 50 yards up is the concrete part of the ramp.

IVR isn't looking too bad so far this year, about 30 ft higher than last year...we just need 4 good years in a row.
