Diamond Lake? Hey where's that located? Ok it's in Eastern Oregon but not all that far and I hardly need an excuse to go fishing some where new. I finally got some time to compile my video and pictures from a fun weekend catching lots of fiesty trout back in late September.
I decided I wanted to fish the Kokanee Power of Oregon year-end two day trout derby at Diamond Lake as I had never been to this lake even as a former Oregonian of years past. Also my Mom and friend met me there for a few days so it was good to combine a bit family as well. Diamond Lake absolutely beautiful lake with lots of nice scenery and a lake that more importantly was full and not drawn down to supply any water. The only caveat on the trip was that forest fires were raging to the North and South of the lake that caused smoke to roll in and out at times. Also I went to Crater Lake to view its beauty (20 minutes away) but it was smoked in too.
On with the fishing report. I teamed up with my old friend Russ from Salem and he brought his boat over so all I needed to do was show up which was nice. We pre-fished a bit Late Thursday and Friday and found plenty of fish to entertain us but they were all 10 to 12 inchers. The lake was in turnover mode and the big ones were finicky unless you wanted to anchor up and PB it in some shallow weedy sections.
On Sat we caught our share of small fish and I scored one 2.5 lb fish that gave a killer fight ( see picture). This fish ended up enabling me to place in 6th place for the two day derby as it turned out hardly anyone could get the bigger fish to bite either even when you could see them on the Fishfinder. They bit all kinds of lures from spoons to spinners. Sunday was a day of small planters too but it's hard to complain when you are catching fish. Anybody thinking of going to Oregon should check out Diamond Lake as it is a really nice place to hang out for a few days.
Here's some pics and of course the cheezy YouTube video production, turn up the volume a bit.
We saw lots of these sunrises over 4 days I was there....
Here's the average fish we caught during the trip:
but this is what we really wanted to catch all weekend...
And now for another low budget HiTechKoke Production....turn up the volume as the audio is a bit low...man.. ya think we were trying to sell something... here's the link...

Now I need to compile my Shasta Derby photos and video... which was another great adventure.
