I'm overdue for several reports lately and I thought I'd be caught up with my video adventures to match the pictures but that is not the case so I might as well post the pictures. I'll likely put together some video of the underwater action at a later date.
Rachel and I fished the Kokanee Power Derby a couple of weekends ago and we had a blast. The day started off cloudy but with a beautiful sunrise that finally left us with gray skies and even a few sprinkles.
The fish didn't care about the weather as there was plenty of action and while the Pardee Kokes were not monsters they were great fighters on the light tackle and had a knack for stealing corn and shaking hooks. Fish could be had from as high as 55 feet down to 100+. We kept our lines at 75 to 100 and that served us well and we fished fromt eh Rock Wall to Deer Island. The fish bit a wide variety of lures but the pink hoochies and spinners were the most effective along with the RGTs.
A big fish was 12 inches in this derby and even a few 13's were caught but most were 10 to 11.5 inches. The fish were actually bigger than last year according to the derby stats.
In the end Rachel managed to defend her 1st place title from the previous year in the youth division (which she actually forgot about) with a 12 inch fish (which was 6th largest in the derby). I got bumped out of the money with the last weigh in from Capt. Al but that didn't really matter as it was a great time just catching the scrappy Pardee fish and enjoying the camaraderie supporting the Kokanee cause. Here's the picture show...
A few sunrises as the sun shifted upward....
A Pardee monster at 12 inches....
