I've got a Tohatsu, made by nissan, really satisfied with it.5 years and I've just changed spark plug and filter, took it out today, ran like we had just bought it. Good Luck, Bob R

4 h.p., 4 stroke. We use it on a 15 ft. Old Town flatback canoe but it would be a great kicker moter on a larger boat, or a main on a smaller aluminum, say 10 or 12 ft. Bob R

Tohatsu makes the engine itself for 99% of the outboards 30hp and under.
each manuf makes their own lower unit or buys from Tohatsu and sticks it on the engine. includes the mighty Yamaha

housing is by the manufacturer

comes down to parts availability in ?? years down the road for the lower unit. can't beat Merc. for parts avail. they still make parts for 50 year old OBs.

Nissan lower units can be hard to find parts for, online like boats.com and others help, but how long will Nissan be around making parts.

the aftermarket manuf's like Sierra only do stuff for the big boys, Merc. Yami, Rude etc. Nissan?

dad just had to toss a 15 year old Nissan 8hp for lack of lower unit seals NLA NLM.

good choice on the yamaha signfishin
do you care if I ask how much?
I'm running a 5hp merc from my old boat and it is a short shaft.
Doesn't quite hack it on my 20 footer in strong wind.
I'm getting the koke bug bad right now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have a 20 footer, think 8 HP 4 stroke. You'll be glad you did. I used a 8 hp on a 15 footer, my old boat.

It trolled great but was a little heavy. I Sold the 8 HP and put a 3.5 HP on the little boat.

I have a 24 footer now and use a 15 HP. The old 8 HP I had would have worked fine on this 24 footer.

JUST picked up a 2006 t8 electric start/tilt yesterday. gotta throw some gear oil in her and she'll be ready to go. it's taken forever to find one fairly local that didnt get snagged up right away. now i keep having visions of a tr-1:)

Looks like you don't have the steering rod on yet. Are you installing one?
