A report from last weekend's fishing adventure from Stampede Reservoir for our annual Kokanee Popwer Derby attendance. The word on the street was expect a tough bite so I decided to fly solo and take a day to relax and do some scouting on Friday. Sure enough it was a tough bite but no shortage of fish on the finder anywhere from 35 to 100 feet from the dam to up river but they all seemed to have a pretty good case of lock jaw.
My junior but experienced crew, Jenna and Rachel, arrived Friday night and in a few short hours we were on the lake by 5AM and had a bit of time to scout around. After the 5:30AM start it didn't take long and we got bit and amazingly started to have some steady action as the sun came up. This was a big relief to have some fish in the boat early as Stampede can get pretty stingy past 10AM from past experience. We had a good morning bite from the north end of the islands to right in front of the ramp.
It was a big spinner bite for us in the RMT Assassin flavors as well as some Apex action for good measure. Our fish were mainly from 58 to 70 feet and in the 15 inch plus class. In the end we were blessed with some bigger fish much to our surprise as we manged to all place with a 3rd and 4th for Rachel and Jenna and I hung in for a 10th place. Another great time at Stampede with the usual bunch of Kokanee fanatics. On with the pictures...
Pre-fish morning....
A typical scene at Stampede with fog / cloud formations making for some great photos.
A familiar face, Mr. D. checking out the lake and we exchange some info
I searched up the Little Truckee arm on Friday and found some great schools in shallow water but they would not bite and obviously had other activities on their minds.
