I suggest getting down to Diamond Lake if you can. We fished Friday the 11th, and last Monday the 14th. Caught 16 fish on Friday, and 19 fish on Monday for 3 of us. Monday had 15 fish in the 15 to 21" range.
South end of the lake in 15' of water, using garlic powerbait and 42" of leader.

Ice is gone, only the north boat ramp is open, but they were plowing the south ramp on Monday.

I fished it last year on the 4 th of July weekend/were the mositoes out yet/that the worst place in the world for them/It was my first trip ever over there. We spanked them also excellent quality fish/I trolled, anchor fishing with power bait not my way. 8 fsh limit is nice. I pulled pink wedding rings Indiana Silver blade size#2 pulling a long nightcrawler was deadly. Great place

Just got back from a great trip to Diamond Lake today. Took two first time fishermen down there on the free fishing day. She caught 6, he caught 5. His included a nice 16 1/2" and 19". A little windy this morning, and not much of a bite until 10 am. Caught all of the fish by 2 pm using chartruse and garlic powerbait.
I think I may have created not one, but two monsters who are now fully hooked on fishing. What a blast we had.

Bring lots of mosquito repellent number one I'm no expert but its a garlic lake if your anchoring using power baits. I had excellent results trolling using a silver lake troll behind a pink wedding ring trolling a large worm had no problem getting are limits of 8 fish each good luck

Fished Diamond Lake today. My worst day of fishing there in the last 3 years. Wind was up early, and heavy, and didn't quit until after 1 pm. We sat in the middle of 24 boats at the south end and saw a total of 4 fish caught. Talked to several guys who were skunked or had 1 fish. One guy said he had been there since Tuesday and had 2 fish for 3 days. Tons of fish showed on the finder, but nothing worked. We had two hits and caught both and that was the total of our action for over 6 hours of fishing. Yuck !

Hope to hear from you when you get back. I went there yesterday and the fishing wasn't much better than last week. Caught 4 fish with a couple other hits, but it was very slow fishing for most of the guys I talked to. Seemed like most everyone was doing the same. Lot of boats clustered together, with an occasional fish here and there, then everyone relocating after a while. Never found a spot with a good bite going, but the fish were all over the fishfinder. Finally shut it off being tired of the constant beeping and no bites. Wife wanted to know if there is a different movie to put in the fish finder. Nothing like the fishing up until 10 days ago. Even the charter was moving all over the place, and didn't see him doing much either. Cleaned the fish and they were stuffed with shrimp. Thankfully, not a lot going with the midges or flies.

Diamond in the SNOW

After getting through the snow on our way from 97 to Diamond lake, we set up camp and put the boat in the water, Monday night we caught 4 and lost about 6 right at the boat, so we went to the Kokanee style and put snubbers on, after that our catch rate went way up, Tuesday morning 0400 there was snow on the boat, thank goodness for the Mr heater!!!, after finding where the fish were at we anchored up and put out the bait balls, (power bait) and a fly or two, not one hit or swim by did we have.
So back to trolling, on the west side in 20' of water just outside the weeds, with a Jack O diamonds spinner, snubber, and either just a worm or with a wedding ring and worm, our biggest fish was a 19'' PIG, we had constant action all day, and it picked up in the late afternoon and evening when my wife and another lady that was with us joined the guys on the boat, what a hoot to have 5 people BSing and then have 2 fish on at once, the lady's were having fun!!, Sunrise over Mt. Thielsen was awesome with the fog lifting off the water and Mt. Bailey just pink.
Raising the anchor was a chore with all of the MILFOIL, and mud, even the ball was sucked down and would not lift the anchor.
We went from Monday afternoon until Thursday, midweek is the best time to go as there was not a lot of fishing pressure, our next trip is to Paulina in early August
PS bring your thermacell I put one in the cabin on the boat and had NO mosquitoes or gnat in the cabin

Fished at Diamond Lake today. Caught 5 for the two of us, lost a couple more. Wife caught a 21' - 3 1/2 pounder. That was a long drive home having to hear all the details. Congrats dear, you did well.

Algae bloom going on at Diamond. More so at the south end and west side. It's thick in spots.

Just announced on the Diamond Lake sight, ODFG has decided to open Diamond Lake on January 1st, and from then on, Diamond will be open all year round. Anyone for ice fishing in January ?
