Spent all day Sunday at Arock. Tried all different colors and lures, and various scented corn, no luck. Showed a lot of fish on the finder, couldn't get them to bite. Anywhere from 10 to 80 ft. Went around the dam, straight across from the boat ramp, and around the waterfalls up the south fork. Total of the day was 8 squaws. Talked to a few other boaters and they had little or no luck as well.

I think ill take the family up for an evening trip. I usually fish arrowrock, but there has been no bite up there. I'm not real sure where to go at LP. Are you guys hitting them closer to the dam, or the marina right now? I herd the water was low/muddy so I'm thinking the dam would be better? Also, will my state park pass get me in the gate or do I still have to pay for parking?

The state park pass will get you in at Spring Shores but not at Turner. I don't know if they have put up the fee box at Turner. I haven't been able to go up for a while and am also curious about where to try. I hope for a short trip on Saturday morning.

There was no fee box at turners on Saturday. Also as I said above we did better down by the dam on Saturday and that is were we had the only hits as well on Sunday.

What size hooks? Thanks

I usually use a #2 up front and a #4 swinging at the end. I also use noodle rods and light action fiberglass rods for the give. I agree with the slow, steady approach to reeling them in. We went 12 for 13 Sunday at HVRR

we did alright. the bite was soft and they were not really hitting hard enough to get good hook ups. 4 koks and 2 trout in the boat. We lost 8-10 fish. I'm still teaching my wife how to catch em, and most were lost within 15 feet of the boat. still fun 3 of the koks were 17-18 inches, and one was a little 14 in dinker :) All caught at the north end of the dam. Pink hoochie on a long line was the top producer, even though I had the downriggers at 10, 15, and 20 feet.

I remember why I hate LP, high winds everywhere at all times, and absolutely the most stupid people at the boat launch. I saw a wakeboard boat and a ski boat with fishing poles almost crash into each other. All because the wakeboard boat was trying to cut in line. They both took forever to get out. I love the look on peoples faces when I back my trailer down the 100 yard ramp doing like 20mph perfectly strait, and am hooked up and out of the water in 45 sec.

Fishing from GooseNeck Bay toward Spring Shore today. One bite, caught 1-15" Kok on longline pole without weight, 100' line out. Talked to few other fisherman in Spring shore they didn't do good either. Other fisherman caught 2 at the dam on 4 color leaded line.

Had 2 bites and landed 2 koks near the dam at 1pm 15 feet down (about 16 inches each). Trolled from Spring Shores to the dam with no action. If you see the 28 foot pontoon boat with "Newell's Ark" that's me!

I thought I saw your boat @ Pipeline Gulch. Was your pontoon has 2 blue top that took off about 3:30PM toward Spring Shores. I did stop by Pipeline Gulch at that time fish for another half and hour and quit.
I was on the 17.5' Crestliner Phantom Fish & Ski. Grey with Red trim, Light gray bimini top.

As some of you know, I have been guiding on that lake for a while. Lately I have been doing lots of Bass guiding. Anyway, I am seeing lots of Kokanee in very shallow water. Example, From the floating dock just north of the state park (freeman cr) to the long dock by the church camp. 60' off the bank in 35' of water. that whole mile stretch had them in it. Another spot, going in to canyon cr, the point on the left, around that point in 40' of water, across from dent launch, the group camp site, thru there in 25' of water, the point that seperates elk cr. from the main lake, on the main lake side in 40' of water. All these spots you can hit the shore with a bass bait. real close. There not out where you think they would be. The fish that are jumping out of the water in those spots are pretty nice, 10". if anyone has any ?????? feel free to contact me jeff jarrett jarretts guide service. you can find me

Forgot to mention: When the corps dumps water like they have been, the koke's leave the deep water, they move to the shallows. Believe it or not, there is current in the lake right now. Imagine the middle of the lake is slowing flowing tward the dam, look for spots close to the bank that would create an eddy just like what happens down in the river. The koke's are either in fornt of or behind those points that soften the current. The current is only 1/4 to 1/2 mph. but when your a fish any little changes they act different. when your fishing those spots I mentioned earlier, try no weight about 25' back seriously maybe only a 1/2 oz back 25 or 30' even hand line or jig over them. There are a lot of fish in those spots. You will find them on your sonar jeff

Thanks for the update again this year Jeff! Went from really good fishing 3 weeks ago to nothing in the last two weekends. Been finding them just like Jeff said, up shallow in all the usual spots see attachments), but they weren't having any of what I was offering with wedding rings/lake troll.

I fished Friday with ZERO bites again.... Saw one boat net a fish. Water is still really dirty compared to this time last year. Don't think i'm going back until things clear up and water level stabilizes.

Trolled around 4 hours por nada on Wednesday, mainly in the top 40 feet of water.
Marked scattered fish, nothing impressive.
Water was way off color with plenty of debris everywhere.
Weather was gorgeous and it was great to get back out on the water.
Better keep your eyes open, though, if you're running wide open...lots of floating and barely floating crud!

Does the level of the reservoir fluctuate affect to the fish bite? They released a lot of water to Boise river couple weeks ago, now they start to fill it up again, from 4/21 until today water level is raising 6'. First section of the dock may be floating now...
Look at the USGS current condition of the LP

only time I have seen water level fluctuation affect the bite is if it muddies the water, or changes the temp. or thermocline drastically

I did well during March and April last year. I didn't do very well the first part of May. I'm not sure how that compares with the reservoir level changes or with the runoff from snow melt.

Went to LP this afternoon and fish from 2 ~ 5PM. In 50 minutes caught 2 Kok 14" and 1 16" rainbow in the dam area. 100' long line without weight Ford fender + Pink Kokabow + white corn. Last 2hrs no bite. Water temp. 48 deg. and the end section of dock is floating.

At Tuner Gulch prking lot, there were 2 trucks with boat trailer (one is mine). The other boat must fish upstream and they quit about 3:00PM.

The water levels are Nearly back to where they were before the drained the lake off. Hopefully the natural changes will stabilize things for the immediate future. Last year the lake was 3046 ft at this time and this year it is only 3029 ft. Could be the difference?

Hey Downriggeral, do you use those drop/split shot wide gap #2 hooks with a tandem set up or just a single hook? I remember when all lures came with treble hooks (bad for kokes). After replacing those danged treble hooks (with singles) we were able to land some kokes. That was a long time ago when kokenee were just being introduced and no one had much skill. The best thing that works for me to catch these slippery things is to take along a big bag of Good Luck.

Hope you all catch your limits of whoppers!

Last week the water temp from 50 to 52 deg. in some area. Yesterday was 48 deg. in the dam area, there was about 4 deg different.
This is my 2nd year fish for kok at LP. Last year I didn't do good in early May either, later in May that I caught more fish. June July we bagged our limit in ~ 4hrs. LP is close to home but the water is also to busy in summer.
I did good in Anderson last year too. Caught them at 75' with DR and the water temp at the surface was 76 deg.

Got to love the people that park at the top middle of the ramp to tie-down.

Drives me insane. One of the many reasons I'm for a state boating license. Maybe they'd learn that he boat ramp is a thoroughfare, not a parking spot... 101duh101

My first DOUBLE (at least with Kokes).... OK....Here's my story. Today was my first Koke trip of the season. I hit Lucky Peak at 7:00AM and for the next 4 hours it was nothing....Nada...Zero....Zilch... not even a bite. I was being a good boy trolling with the popular colors and lures....Hoochies....Wedding Rings....Pink....Chartreuse...Orange...and...Nothi ng. I used plain shoepeg, fire shoepeg , garlic shoepeg, worms, grubs and eggs... but ZIPPO! I fished on top with no weights, with the down rigger from 50 to 10 feet in 10 foot increments...but nothing. But at 11:30 things changed. I had to throw in the kitchen sink!!! At the bottom of my tackle box was a jar of Power Bait Orange Mini Marshmallows. What the heck, I tried everything in the box...... I was fishing two lines and decided to try the orange Marshmallows with an ALL chartreuse Wedding Ring. 30 seconds after putting that thing in the water (35 feet behind the boat with an ounce and a half weight) and WHAM!!!! ....The rod bends and I have my first strike of the day. I decided to use the same bait on both poles (chartreuse Wedding Ring and Orange Marshmallow) and I'll be damned if both rods didn't produce great Kokes....at the same time. ...my first Koke double!! The first was 16 and a half inches and full of eggs....the second was 15 and a half . I fished till about 1:30 and caught 2 more Kokes and several trout....Including one that measured 18 inches. The water temp was right at 49 degrees and I trolled between 1.2 and 1.8 knots.

Have been getting notes from quite a few of you wanting to know why they will not bite. Anytime they gush water out of the dam to make room for spring runoff, the fish up there (all fish, trout ,bass, kokes, crappie, etc) their positive riotaxes kicks in. Fish are designed that when they encounter current, they swim into or face the current. it is natural. look at late summer for instances when the lake is being drawn down. Most all of the larger fish travel way up the lake. Kokanee go first because the flow alerts them of spawning in the future. The bass and others ( Bull trout, larger rainbows) are right behind because of the food source. When the dam gets shutoff, which I hear could be next week, maybe a bit later, they will come out of their funk and start being fish again. hopefully this helps out. and makes sense

Fished yesterday 10am until 7pm. First hit was about 10:45 or so, a 15" lake trout on the deepest line: pink hoochie on a silver/pink dodger. Slow for a while after that until about 3pm and then we had a few frenzies of fish, all caught on north side of lake. All told, 8 fish in the boat, 3 trout and 5 kokes.

Brings up old memories.

Used to fish Lake Almanor a few decades ago and we would fish the springs at 4-4:30 until sunup and once it was light enough to see it looked like a blanket of mini-marshmallows on the surface. Missed strikes from monster rainbows where they spit it out I guess. The real secret was canned corn but F&G told us trout could not digest it so all the catch and release folks quit using it.

Beached the boat at Goose Neck Bay, took the driver seat out and I had a really good nap.

We've been focusing an Anderson this year but took a couple friends who had never been kokanee fishing to Lucky Peak yesterday. Judging by what I saw caught I'd say there are many more readers than posters on this site. My friends just could not get the hang of it and lost at least 30 fish due to fish fighting operator error. We did come home with two limits of nice fish. I saw many, many, many fish caught by other boats as well. You'd never know it from the postings here, but it is "on" at LP.

Fished LP yesterday from 8a-2p from Barclay past the dam up to the bend. It was pretty choppy until noonish. We had 2 hits but didn't land any fish. Tried everything in the box except the blue herring juice. One hit was on a silver Kokabow flasher and pink spinner, the other was on a pink worm behind a silver flasher. Plenty of fish on the HUD, just couldn't get them to take anything. Most of them were congregated by the dam.

Fished on Th and caught four kokes across from Curlew, surface to about 5' deep. All were caught in about 10 minutes, around 8:00 am. No bites after that. Two were on dodger and home made bead spinner with night crawler, and two on dodger with pink hoochie with plain shoepeg corn.

Most others we spoke with didn't get a bite.

Went out for a boat ride in the rain on Saturday and went Sunday with the wife from 11 until 5. Picked up two that were 18" and lost one at the boat and two others that came off right after they tripped the downriggers.

Funny thing is they are as big as my June 2015 fish and are hitting the same lures as I was using last June. Last year at this time small wedding rings were the ticket and the fish were 10-12". All the fish this year have been 14" plus and hitting my Sluggo Squid's.

Fished from 2:00PM til 4:30PM in Spring Shores yesterday. Two hits, one got off the hook and 1 squaw fish :).

Last week there were more action in same area with same lure set up (Ford fender + pink & blue wedding ring + white corn 100' line out), we kept 4 kok ~14", released 3 small one and 1 trout.

Fished Spring Shores area today (one guy in blue and white bluewater escape) and hooked 5 and landed 2. Had a few bites that I missed too. First fish was a nice one, but only had it on for a minute. One of my keepers was a nice 16" fat koke.

Hello, I am new to the thread and new to kokanee fishing. I will be trying out LP for the first time this week and I was hoping that you folks could give me some advice. Based on what I've read here I picked up an assortment of Kokabows, Hoochies, and dodgers. I don't have a DR set up yet so I will be long lining. I will be in a square back canoe with trolling motor so that wind is my primary concern. I would appreciate any advice on where to focus my attention (no fish finder), where/when I might escape the wind, good places to park (don't need a ramp) or any other general fishing advice that you have for me. I have also noticed that many of the locations referenced in this thread aren't on the maps I am looking at, if anyone knows of a map that has local identifiers on it that would be awesome! Thanks in advance!

Lucky Peak can be extremely windy, or very calm. It is hit and miss, be sure to check the weather, however you can usually escape most of the wind by going toward spring shores. The fish are in the top 10 feet right now and if you are long lining just make sure you don't have much weight or any if you are able to get away with it.

Tip your hooks with SHOEPEG corn, shoepeg is a must, you can get a can of it at winco or fredmeyers if needed. You will want to go roughly 1-1.5mph I have been having some good luck on the lower end, but again it all depends on what lure you are using.

Before you let your lines out be sure you put it in the water next to your boat and make sure everything is spinning, last thing you want is a spinner just sliding along.

Fish seem to be up past spring shores just a little bit, but you should be able to catch some all around.

I would say go to Springs Shores far NE ramp will be a big fleet right there so just stay with them your biggest issue ( especially if weekend ) will be the GOOGANS ( that would be jet skies and ski boats ) your canoe will be bouncing around a lot - ya cant get away from them - longline with troll gear or dodger, rubber snubber, hoochie or spinner , scented sho peg corn, back 75-100 ft with 1 ounce weight or maybe even no weight ( there is a bunch of different gear ideas ) - good luck

I fished for years out of a 17 foot canoe with a side mounted trolling motor. I caught lots of fish. A couple words of caution for you: 1) tie all your equipment into the canoe, 2) consider making or buying a set of outriggers. I tied things into the canoe so that if I did capsize (never did, thankfully) I wouldn't lose expensive gear. I went for a long time without the outriggers, but wakes from other boats became a worse problem than the wind. I wouldn't fish without outriggers if I were still using my canoe. Cabela's calls them "stabilizers." I'm not sure I would put a downrigger on the canoe. That would create some torque and cause the canoe to be less stable. Instead, consider using in-line weights. I've used up to 3 ounces and that got me down to about 30 or 35 feet deep. I have many good memories from the canoe, I wish you well.

Fished from 3:30 until 6 yesterday picked-up 1 and lost 1. Not marking a lot of fish so I will run over to the dam today and troll back to see where they went to.

My trolling motor is now broke in and has had it first oil change so its now time to get serious.

I fished for a number of years out of a Pelican Bayou(the old scanoe), but I was fortunate in that my local Koke lake is electric motor only so I only had the wind to worry about. I put outriggers on it and it made a world of difference. I got the Yak gear stabilizers for around $150. I reinforced the canoe sides with some trex decking where I mounted them. I used a cannon mini troll downrigger without any issues out of the Bayou. It doesn't extend out very far, and you can position it so it's easy to reach while fishing. I drug bottom more than a few times with it with no ill effects. If you have some way to measure your speed that's really helpful, either a gps on your depth finder or a hand held gps. I rigged my depth finder to be portable using a 6 pack cooler and a small gel cell battery and rigged up a bracket on the Bayou with pvc pipe for the transducer (works for ice fishing too). If no speed indicator, make lazy S turns and pay attention to which rod gets hit on the turn - inside rod means slower, outside rod means faster. Good Luck, be careful and always wear a life jacket!

Thank you everyone for the great advice! I'll definitely start thinking about stabilizers and the Cannon Mini Troll is exactly what I had in mind. I might get that and a fish finder setup soon, but for now I'll be keeping it simple. I have the shoepeg corn covered, and a good idea of how to get the depths that I want to cover. For speed, I have a phone app that should work fine, but I'll try the lazy S too. I think I'll try the very early morning to avoid the mobs and hopefully the wind, the wind report is showing low wind 6-9 am Saturday. I'll be back with a report soon, and in the mean time I'll be listening to any additional advice. Thanks again!

Sitting at Cerlew right now waiting for my brother to get back from a run to Pine for a little more food. Friends of ours hooked 20 yesterday and boated 10. We started this morning after getting here late last night and so far have 12 in the boat. 14-18 mostly 16 & 17. Pink hoochies or Dick Nites behind pink or watermelon dodgers. 1 ounce weight 35-40 pulls back. I think that's about 65-75 feet of line. Only one on a downrigger and we've quit using them for now. Going to camp again tonight and see what we can get before the wind starts tomorrow. Maybe Anderson won't be so bad after all.

Today was my first try at trolling for kokes at Lucky Peak... a friend and I got to Spring Shores around 7am and fished till about 11am. The wind was a bit pushy for our little boat, but we caught a few fish in-spite of it. Had 3 hits, lost one kokanee at the boat and boated two others (one fairly nice one in my book, about 15-16inches). Also picked up about an 11 inch perch on our kokanee setup??? We were long lining kokabow dodgers behind a snubber, and then about 10 inches of leader to some kokabow spinners and a hootchi I tried. I had several flavors of shoe peg corn we were trying; garlic, annis oil, and shrimp (and plain of course). My flavored corn is all dyed misc shades of pink and orange... We also had on pink powerbait mealworms. The kokes we hit were all on the shrimp flavored corn combined with the pink worms. One was on our down rigger about 10ft down and 40ft back, the other two were on a long line with about a half ounce weight about 70 ft back, trolling about 1.15 mph. One on a pink kokabow spinner, one on a green and black kokabow spinner, and one on a pink hootchi spinner. Ive got a decent Lawrence fish finder, but I was not marking many fish... I'm thinking in part because the upper columns of water was so filled with debris that I couldn't get my sensitivity set low enough.

So... I have a couple questions for ya'll; I am fairly new to the kokanee trolling gig, having only done it once before (last year at deadwood). What is a good day of fishing (catching) like at lucky peak, arrow rock, or anderson ranch? Should I usually expect only a couple hookups and be happy with that? Or should I be hitting more fish? Also, I have read up on techniques and such for how to rig up to catch them, but is there really a science to this?? or is it more about putting a lure in front of a fish? For example, does the flavor of corn, color of dodger or lure, etc all matter as much as things like trolling speed, weather, etc?

Shouldn't be a problem this time of year and mid week though. There is a nice do-it-yourself spot when you cross the bridge at Lime Creek too.

Update to my last post - We quit at 11:30 Saturday with a total of 18 fish for the day and a half. Talked to three other boats Friday afternoon that had none or very few fish. Not sure why we did well and they didn't. Saw most boats netting fish Saturday morning with and without downriggers. So maybe it'll just get better from here on. By the time we left my meter was reading 65* for surface temp. Took a quick dip Friday night and it wasn't too bad.

Headed east from spring shores fishing a pink hoochie behind a pink/silver sling blade and a chartreuse kokabow behind a pink/chartreuse dodger, both tipped with uv herring shoepeg. Took my boat up to LP yesterday (5/18). My buddy and I fished from 7:30am to 3:30pm. Although we brought home 9 very nice Kokanees ( one 16 1/2", several over 15"), it was fairly slow given how long we were out there. With 4 lines in the water, it was very hit or miss throughout the bay and in the upper channel in front of the marina. Couldn't get dialed into them in any one location. Marked plenty of fish in the teens and 20s, they just didn't seem to be biting much. Used lead weights (1 to 3 oz) to get down to the fish. Used Sling blade, Gary's Gear dodgers, and Ford Fenders. Used various hoochies, spinners, wedding rings and various colors. No one combo/color seemed to be better than any other. Caught a few fish at each depth we fished (1oz, 2oz, and 3oz, ~80 clicks out on the reel counters). Ended up with maybe 12-15 hits each for the day, but many never hooked up. And we lost 3 Kokes at the boat. So, not a bad day. In fact, a great day! A day spent Kokanee fishing is always a great day, just a little better when there are Kokes in the cooler on the way home.

Nice day for fishing. We put 24 in the boat in a couple hours. Started at the ramp and worked across the dam face. Put 5 or 6 on there. Headed up and dropped back in at Indian Crk and trolled up to Canyon and back. Saw another boat, looked like a Crestliner with a red stripe, they were boating several fish every 10 minutes or so. That boat was spinning around fairly tight in the mouth of Canyon Crk. Didn't want to bother them, so trolled back to Indian and quit for the day.

Very nice size fish compared to last few years.

We fished Anderson most of Saturday and for a couple of hours on Sunday morning. We ended up with 20 koks. No Chinooks. We did catch two squawfish of approximately 3 lbs. First time I have seen that. Used microhooch, rollerbaits, and kokabows. Kokabows outperformed in pink and green. Also did well on black- probably due to the weather (black skies and squalls). Good test of rain gear this weekend. The lake is completely full. There is no beach anywhere. I wonder how that will affect the memorial day crowd. Anyway, I thought I would share. We lost a few but landed more than half of the fish hooked. We did the best within site of the ramp in what I think was surprisingly shallow water with most fish less than 15 ft deep. Again may have been due to the weather.

Went out Tuesday night started fishing at 3:30, only boated 1 kok, 14" fish. Lost 3 others and released 2 slime rockets. Had the wind not blown us off the water at about 430 pm in the area we were getting fish, it would have been a great night. Passed a lot of boats at LP heading up, appears LP is still producing. Good luck ya'll.

Finally made it out yesterday, got to LP (Spring Shores) about 445, almost went back home the weather just didn't look promising, about 515 we put the boat in and fished till 8. Turned out to be a great evening. I thought the bite was great, didn't drop below 15 feet. We boated 7 kokes, 6 were small around 12 in. Didn't really want to keep them but afraid they would die, they will smoke up real nice. One beauty about 17 inches. We lost 3 decent ones at the boat and had several bites that just didn't hook up, I was thinking they must be small and the hook kept pulling out. Looking to head back again Friday or Saturday. I threw out a variety rigs with lightly scented anise shoe peg.

Best day of kokanee fishing in my life. We started at Indian Creek and went up around Canyon Crk. Did better at Indian Creek and the wind was blowing straight down the lake from Freeman Crk direction. So boogied back down to Indian Crk and trolled in past the destination dock. Wow. Fish in big clumps, we were busy. Just the wife and I and she is a rookie. So we lost a few here and there or got lines tangled or people tangled learning to work a net. Great fun and never a cross word. I kept telling her not to apologize, that's fishing for kokes.

Got tired of working so hard with 4 rods in the water, seemed we'd always hit 2 or 3 at a time. So pulled the downrigger, it was just at 15-18 feet anyway. And went straight long lines. The best spot was 100 yards behind the destination dock. We just worked the area in a triangle.

Best rigs: smallish blade brass pop gear and chartreuse or white bladed wedding ring. Fairly far back since I added rubber between the lure and the pop. Speeds had to be 1.7-1.8. Getting down to 1.4 would kill the bite. Over 1.8 would kill the bite. We ran tear drop 1/2 ounce weights on the bottom of the rudders and let out 60 ft of line.

We took some corn with three different scents - Pro Cure Kokanee, Pro Cure Krill and Mikes Blue Glo Salmon scent. The Mikes ended up the best today.

Every fish we caught BUT ONE was over 10 inches.

What a morning. What an amazing fishery this year. And we saw not one other boat fishing for kokanee all morning.

We had a similar experience at Dicks Creek but I stayed with the down riggers. I just have too much fun with the ultra light tackle. Switched up some things when we would go more than 20 minutes without a bite to try and keep catching but at one point i had three fish flopping in the boat--one caught on a purple apex, one on a green kokabow spinner and one on a pink FWG sys 2 dodger and a pink spinner bug. Anyway, Nice fat fish. We had a good morning fishing for kokes then we switched up and caught some smallies and a few nice 'bows. Another awesome day on Dworshak.

Camped/fished Anderson Ranch from the afternoon of W/5/25 through the morning of F/5/27. Ended up with a total of 12 kokes and one trout. Mornings were slow for us, we did better in the afternoons. Found the most fish off of Curlew, near the white buoy. Top producer was a pink hoochie behind a dodger at 20'. Most boats I spoke with not doing well. I thought the fishing was quite slow compared to last year at this time.

Fished spring shores 9am to 1pm yesterday with my boys, boated 4 kokes, and a planter rainbow. Had 3 other good hits. Seemed like most hits were on pink kokabow, watermelon dodger and annis flavored corn on long line about 40ft back with a 2oz weight. Had to leave when the wind and ski boats got the waves goin.

Fished spring shores today for the first time. I never knew what kokanee combat fishing was untill today. There must have ben 40+ boats across from the marina this morning. Saw boats net fish all day. Had a lot of bites... Landed 8 kept 4 Nice Kokes, and caught 3 nice trout that we turned back. Couldn't print pods of fish, all seemed to be scattered. Red dodger with orange hoochie tipped with shoe peg corn and live mags. Seems like the fish near the dam are bigger than the fish at spring shores.... Anyone else think so? Caught a lot of dinks that I turned back...6-8". I did catch one nice 17" koke. Big female full of eggs. Put up a great fight. Will maybe try next weekened near the dam again. Too much boat traffic up at spring shores for me.

Between 15-30 feet. I caught that 17" female (posted a pic on my page( at 40 feet. I feel like the bigger fish seem to be deeper. Seems like all the smaller fish where near the 15-20' range. No bites at all? What kind of set up? Long lining or Down rigger? I was long lining and honestly had at least 15 other bites and takedowns that I couldn't get into the boat. They definitely had soft mouths today.

we went up yesterday from 7am to 4pm. Fishing started slow. We went out from curlew where the other 30+ boats were. After a few hours of no bites, and watching no other boats do anything, we went down to the creek mouth. Instantly got one, then a little slow until about noon. Then the bite started pretty regularly. Had a couple of doubles, and a triple. Once people started seeing us do circles, we went from being alone, to dodging what seemed like every boat in the state. Ended up going home after almost getting hit a number of times. We couldn't fish, and it seemed like most were just following us around. Took home 14 kokes, and lost 3 or 4 of them. No chinook, but one kok was 19" and another was 20". most others were in between 13-17 in. Most boats we talked too had one or none. Best luck was pink hoochies at 15 feet

Please be aware that IDFG and University of Idaho fisheries crews will be conducting kokanee surveys and research at Arrowrock and Lucky Peak reservoirs from June 1 - June 8, 2016.

One of the survey techniques involves setting suspending gill nets in the water column. Our plan is to utilize up to 12 net sets at each reservoir. Nets will be marked with a series of highly visible buoys. Data collected from these surveys will improve fisheries monitoring and management strategies.

PLEASE AVOID THE BUOYS AND EXPENSIVE NETS with your trolling gear. Should you have any questions please contact the regional office in Nampa at (208) 465-8465.

I never strayed more than 200yds from curlew boat ramp and only fished 3 to 5 hrs a day. Averaged 10 a day (not counting lost fish and missed hits). They were very picky about flasher, squid color, and even corn scent. We hooked up triples at least once per day, but they were off then on. Had to be right place at right time, and depth changed once or twice daily..I fished 3 poles on two downriggers all at slightly different depths. Caught fish everywhere from 10' ro 40'. In one 20 minute period my girlfriend hooked one at 10' seconds after I hooked up at 40'.

What has helped my kokanee fishing the most is getting a fishfinder that allows me to see the plankton in the water and see where my line is in the water. That has helped me catch far more fish than I used to. It took me the better part of a day to find the spots where the plankton was, and after that it was just trying to keep the boat in those areas.

My fishing buddy went Sunday and had an electrical problem so he stayed right near Big Eddys and limited out with 50 in a few hours. I didn't do as well, 28 in a couple hours. I did not find the fish were much deeper, still hitting at higher speeds, 1.5-1.7 and 1/2 ounce on 60 foot long lines. Ran downriggers at 20 foot. Colors and scents and terminal gear didn't seem to matter much.

Any way caught my limit for the first time this year, need to practice my netting skills got over excited and lost at least 5 fish. 20 and 30 feet were working for me pink Hoochie and orange Kokabow were getting it done tipped with corn, went my own way far from the fleet.

It took a while, but I picked up my limit of Kokes at LP today. Lots of little ones, released five or six that were single hooked in the lip and released unharmed. Had to keep two small ones that were hooked in the eye and gills. The rest of my limit were carbon copy 14"ers. Lost my largest Koke of the day (17") when it came straight in like a small guy and then went crazy right next to the boat. Finishing his show by swimming right at the boat to get some slack and then jumping in the air and throwing the hook as he bounced off the side of the boat.nananana All were caught on green or pink mini hoochies at 15-25 ft. down. Moved around quite a bit with only two caught out of the same area across from spring shores. Got tired of the boats so did my own thing. Fished from 8-1:30.

Fished LP today from 10:40AM til 4:30PM. It was slow for us, we caught 4 Kok in Charcoal creek area. 1-18" with DR at 35', other 3 from 12' -17'. Friends bagged their kok limit yesterday. They fished from 7' -15' with orange kokabow and pink hootchies.
JTM! Did I talk to you at Charcoal creek? Hi! If that were you.

skipped the chinook fishing. Got a late start and didnt get to the lake until about 08:30 but managed to get 30 out of Dicks Creek before we had to leave. Fish were up and down all day from 16' to 27' depending on wind and clouds. Purple and green dodgers and spinners were the best. As usual I stuck with the downriggers because I like to use the ultralight gear but there were a couple boats using pop gear and leadcore who also did well.

3RivrFishr, I musta drove right by you at Dicks.

Wife and I started right out off Bruce's single ramp and went across the dam. It was ok, but we weren't marking fish, just catching the odd one here and there. So headed up past Big Eddy - buddy of mine said he was knocking them dead there last week. All I got was small mouth and trout hammering my koke lines, especially a dodger with a white hoochie on a short downrigger.

That was boring, so headed up to Indian creek. Did ok. Probably around 25 by 1100. Fish were scattered around but regular as clockwork.

So, being me, got antsy and headed up to Dent. Tried right across from the ramp. Caught a couple, nothing hot. So hit the bridge. 4 or 5 other boats working the east side of the bridge. Soon found out why. There was a couple of knarly big fish balls on the finder just after passing under the middle of the bridge and then circling around on the Orofino side another big ball along that shoreline. Circled with the other boats until we were limited and headed back.

Was a perfect day. Been a while since I had the gumption to hang in and limit out. Wife was game though. She got tired, but felt good enough to steer and handle the net while I worked the lines. She's starting to get the hang of it and other than being a little seasick after a day on the water, she's loving it.

See all ya'all out there next time.

Rick

Hey Rookie. Not too hard right now to find fish From Freeman either go down lake to the Canyon Creek inlet or up lake to Dicks, Elk Creek or even all the way to the bridge. We pretty much could catch some fish right in the middle of the lake anywhere this year. Finding schools and working them is the trick. And that will change from week to week. Hence we share what we find here. Couple weeks out will mean some changes in behavior, depth and locations.

I am amazed at how fat the fish are in just a couple weeks. Make your offerings to the fish gods that we get lots of big bad knarliness (how it's spelled for Kokanee).

planning a 4 day trip down there starting Friday. anyone know what the water level is like? I prefer to camp on the beach, but it was too full for memorial. Just want to plan accordingly.
It seems by the comments that the fish are finally getting to a standard depth. 20-30 from what I have seen, is this true? and is anyone getting any good sized chinook? I want to try targeting them, if the bite is on.

I don't think the water level has come down much, the online teacup diagram shows 97% full and there wasn't much beach there last I time I visited about 10 days ago.

Last trip we did find the fish in the 20-30 foot range where the previous week (memorial day weekend) we were finding them only 7-12 down.

Stick with the koje gear that's the best way to hook one, their so scattered they take forever to find but they do hit the koke gear.

terek - my wife and I will also be arriving to Anderson Friday, camping at curlew. Come say hello if you have time, find our gold trailblazer with large black car topper, or boat is a green and white crestliner with downriggers and white Johnson outboards. Looks like a couple other forum members will be there as I saw their posted plans for curlew. I've have not met many forum members in person yet.

Was there Friday and Saturday. Fishing was steady but the fish are all on the smaller size about 10" to 12". Caught most on anything pink in 27 FOW.

Im new to fishing Kokanee .
Today was my 2nd attempt and managed to boat 2 Kok's right at 17" .
Both came on a Pink Hoochie at 25' on the downriggers .
Trolling between .8 and 1.5 mph .
Caught both near Charcoal Creek .

Weather was a bit sporty , with rain and wind gust that made it hard to keep the boat at trolling speeds .
