steve, that's pretty much what I was running last weekend. I did slow down a little and shorten up to 45 to 50 foot. Fish were still at 15 to 25 ft for the most part.

Fished today from noon until 5:00PM. It was slow for us. We cover from Goose Neck Bay to Pipe Line Creek. 6 hits, caught 3 Kok and lost 3. Longline 85' line out no weight Ford Fender + Pink Kokabow. DR from 5' to 15 Green dodger + UV light green super squids.
There were few fishing boats on the lake but there wasn't much action.

Went last weekend. Put in at Freeman Creek and went across to Canyon. I could see a couple of boats plenty busy reeling in fish compared to the couple we caught. I noticed larger blades for the bells they were using. I had some large blades in my spinner kit so I made up a 4 blade willow leaf with 2.5" blades. That was the trick, 20' down and the bigger blades we started catching fish. I have my 5 year old granddaughter this weekend so I think we will be up there again.

The fish that I caught were from 5' to 15' range. We fish with 3 poles, wife had same set up and she fish deeper from 20 - 45, she didn't have any hit. We might catch few more then the rain came and we quit.
I thought you already leave for Anderson fishing trip. Good luck.

So Chinook salmon & king salmon are the exact same fish just two different terms. Ocean run Chinook and landlock Chinook are king salmon.
Also those are babies your harvesting there. Need to throw them back so they can get to 15 plus lbs like the ones I've been catching. Keep all the dang kokes you want. The Chinook fishery is so new in that lake its questionable whether or not they will reproduce. Last year 0 Chinook made it back to the weir.

The Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) is the largest species in the Pacific salmon genus Oncorhynchus. The common name refers to the Chinookan peoples. Other vernacular names for the species include king salmon, Quinnat salmon, spring salmon, and Tyee salmon. The scientific species name is based on the Russian common name chavycha (чавыча). Chinook and other Pacific salmon evolved from lake dwelling Salmo-like fish
I believe the Chinook / Kings were planted to reduce the Kokanee population in Anderson Ranch Reservoir. Weather they reproduce or not, likely the F&G will plant more as needed.

Nice copy & paste! Half the Chinook planted were sterile the other half have yet to reproduce or won't at all, this happens when salmon are kept in captivity (lakes). I encourage everyone to throw the Chinook back, you can no not rely on f & g to restock this species. It would be great if we had one lake in southern Idaho with the same Chinook fishery as CDA up north.

hard to release a dead fish, bro. not all get lip hooked. these were the 2 gill hookers out of 6 chinook we caught that day. They will not reproduce. They have done this before years ago. Those fish were stocked in 2014 for one purpose, to reduce the koke population. That is why there is no pre determined limit on them. You just count them as a trout limit. I have been fishing that water my whole life, and the chinook stocking works. This was not the first time they did it, and it wont be the last.

Interesting I've never heard of Chinook being gill hooked except on the river an I've caught thousands, usually about 200 a year between lakes rivers & ocean. So you've gill hooked 2??? They bite from the tail first an mouth it which is why they never get gill hooked while trolling, at least to the point they can't be released. Chinook are extremely strong fish, even if there bleeding when put back in cold water they will live. Chinook stocked in deadwood are re-producing (when f&g let's them) and CDA has landlocks reproducing, same breed stock at Anderson. Kokanee on the other hand will be stocked as needed there is NO shortage in Idaho & plenty of lakes full of them. Chinook need to be released at least for 2-3 more years. Its just advice from another angler. Fish & game does there part as sportsman we have the resposabilty and owe it to certain fisheries to do what's right. In Idaho we have wiped out the sockeye fishery & the Chinook fishery is not healthy by any means. I'm speaking ocean run of course on the sockeye but its an example of poor fisheries management.

whatever. When I see a fish heavily bleeding, I'm not going to release it to watch it die. I fish for one reason. To fill my freezer. I'm a subsistence fisher, hunter and farmer. Everything I do is to fill my freezer for the winter, so I don't have to buy meat. And I rarely do. I will release a fish that I know will get bigger, but not if it is heavily bleeding. They stocked chinook in Anderson around 8 years ago, and they did not reproduce. Hence the lack of large ones, and a re stock 2 years ago. Catch em while you can, because they probably wont be there in a few more years.

Thats because the guys that like to keep 25 kokanee in a day are the same guys keeping 18in Chinook, they don't have a chance. I can pm you pictures that I won't post on here of many 15-25lb Chinook in Anderson an they all got released.
Coming from a guy that needs fish to stock his freezer to feed his family you should be more concerned about the fisheries reproduction rate than me..

Fished from Saturday the 11th through Wednesday the 15th from sun up to sun down each day. The fishing was really slow as we only boated a few fish in the upper end of the lake and we only saw a couple of nets come out over the course of 5 days. We marked a lot of fish between the power lines and the snowman but couldn't get them to bite. Fishing should improve as the weather warms up.

Last year I caught a Chinook 4.4 lbs, that was the first Chinook that I caught in Idaho. The BBQ Chinook tasting was so good. My wife and I released all big Squaw fish that we caught in last Summer.

The Chinook were 4-5 pounds and averaging 26" last year. I'm hoping that they fattened up over the winter. There were quite a few Kamloops in the 10-15 pound range. This 20 pounder was the largest that I've heard about and has kept me excited about returning this year.

Bottom line, we were blown all over the lake this morning. It was very difficult to control the trolling. Despite that, we pick up some trout quickly, which we were targeting this morning. 1 kokanee by accident. The water is still greenish and likely will be for the year. It was great getting out for a while. There are some big trout in Ririe this year and we were able to find many schools of kokanee. When the wind doesn't blow, I will go. worthy12

Fished all day Saturday between Spring Shores and Gooseneck Bay. Most fish were caught around Goosenec bay at depth of 15 and 20 feet. In the morning we caught using green Kokabow and then orange and pink later in the day. Between a buddy an myself we caught 2 trout and 8 kokanee. Much better than the previous weeks trip to Anderson were we caught just one. It was a nice 19 inch one though.

I went up for about 3-4 hours on Friday. I launched at the ramp closest to the dam. I picked up one fish in the first 15 minutes or so, just across from the ramp near the rock point leading into the first cove. It was a small fish (12 inches at the most and probably smaller), but it got off right as I was reaching for the net. Didn't get another take the whole time.

Fished Thurs, Fri, Sat for a total of 15 fish. Some were VERY NICE 20 and 22" shiny and feisty.
Did best on the downriggers at 20ft. Camped at Curlew and had a great time. Pink seemed to be the color of choice.
Smoked some yesterday and they are finger licking good!
I think it will only get better later in the season.
Take care and God Bless DW

stayed at curlew last weekend and fished all day sat and all day sun. I'm not sure what is going on, but no one is catching fish. We went home with 9 total. Most were caught within the first hour of both days. Everyone, including the sheriff, is saying the same. No fish are being caught. 2 guys I talked to fished all day sunday and got one each........Didn't mark any schools, and when I did see marks, there were no bites. All the fish we caught were in random places, and not one of them was closer that a 1/2 mile from another.
I really hope it gets better, I'm not a big fan of one fish every two hours. We decided to go to cj next weekend, instead of back to Anderson. My father in law went last weekend and slayed the crappy, good sized ones too.

Fathers Day on Dworshak.
Put in at Bruces and headed up lake about 7AM. Lots of boats at Indian Creek where I had been last few weeks, so passed it by. A couple working at Canyon, passed it by since I was betting it would get busy and I'm more into hunting fish in not so common places than joining a gang. Headed up to the bridge since it was good last week. Not so good today, just a few hits on the west side and nothing on my sonar.
So went back down and tried Elk. Several other boats working the mouth, a couple in further in behind the destination dock. Wasn't hot and heavy like last week but plenty enough action to keep us interested. Fish were deeper. At times we would hit all the 25-30 foot downriggers and heavier long line at once while the light long lines would go untouched, even though they caught regular numbers of fish. Everything seemed to work, brass pop gear early, bright chrome or dimpled chrome later in the day. Home made morphodite orange-green lures with #3 white spinner blades seemed to hit best (I buy the bulk brass blades from Cabelas and spray paint em white or black or whatever). Only thing I had no success with was dodgers. I probably need someone who knows what they are doing teach me something about them, maybe use a stick since I'm slow and dense where dodgers come in. I must be doing it all wrong.
After I pulled out I found my transducer mount was popped up from hitting a stick somewhere. Hence a good reason I never showed fish on the finder.
Another great day fishing at Dworshak with the family. 16 year old son spent most of it snoring as he'd had all his buddies over and had a big bonfire out back until midnight. At least the sheriff didn't show to ask what they were doing this time. He would always get up when we hit too many lines for the wife and I to handle, but usually too late to be of any real use. Teenagers can be a lot of fun or more like an itch ya can't scratch. Like athletes foot on the brain.
Anyway, nice batch of fish. Fat and big. Had some incredible fighters on the lines. One was jumping over the top of a couple of the long lines causing some interesting gymnastics to get poles handed around.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't smoke mine whole. I want to get more smoke flavor into the meat so I fillet first to expose the center meat directly to the smoke.
When I have something to fillet, that is. Last trip out was bleak. It was my first time on LP, so I was actually a bit surprised to even hook up after hearing all the other bleak reports.

ya its kind of like, I caught lots of fish and you didn't with a smiley face :) - I agree, the forum is to let others know whats up and help each other out - giving info on gear, depth, speed and general area, I think, is to be expected if on the forum - I have given my exact method many times - but, ya know some people just glean from others info and don't give any out - that be with a frowny face :(

I swear only on this forum would someone ask that question. So you want me to put on the internet how I catch fish? How bout NO :) Your a big boy go figure it out. I spend alot of time figuring things out myself no one taught me. I fish long hard hours when the fish are not biting sometimes 14 hour days.
I will share this, if something is not working change it up. How many kokabows, hoochies, ford fenders, dodgers, wedding rings ect have these fish seen come July & August. Try changing things up. If the water warms go deeper, watch your depth finder, watch the full moon cycle, certain times of day produce more than others. In my opinion there is no one way of doing it, just figure it out everyday is different. I hope that helps.

I don't need you to tell me how to catch fish. I asked if you come here to brag numbers over the internet to strangers and I got my answer.
As for myself, I fished all day Sunday, I tried every lure/dodger/scent combination I had access to and nothing gave me results. I was fishing the north end of the reservoir 15-40 ft with a long line at 7 ft trolling at 1-1.5 mph.
I came here hoping to figure out what I was doing wrong and see if others were catching fish. Best of luck to you- hopefully your secrets continue to pay off

Thanks for the excellent report, Rick. We have had similar results. It has been a fun year.

going to try and smoke some Koks - I assume , as small as they are that you smoke whole - any insight, would like to hear, any methods
I fillet all my fish, even the small ones. That way I get more brine and smoke flavor into the meat. I use a maple brine then smoke them for 5 to 6 hours with maple pellets.

Just add him to your IGNORE LIST
that's what I did. I don't need to be harassed for my fishing practices. I came to this forum to receive as well as give info for everyone to benefit. There are plenty of fish in idahos fisheries. Keeping secrets doesn't improve anything. Some people just have big egos, and have to feel superior. When I do good, I deff. brag on here, as some of you have seen. But 99% of the time, I will let ya'll know what I did to catch them. Has giving that info ever made my future trips worse? no, not at all. Besides, when you are on them, everyone with binoculars are all over you anyway. I'm happier when everyone is catching fish, rather than just me.
Like here is some. Went to LP yesterday, and we ended up searching for a while, but found the fish across from the marina, and just around the corner in the next little inlet. Ended up with one nice trout, and 13 kokes. Fished from 630-900 pm. Pink and silver was hot, at 15-18 feet. Did get one at 25, but all the others were at 15-18.

The fish that I caught were from 5' to 15' range. We fish with 3 poles, wife had same set up and she fish deeper from 20 - 45, she didn't have any hit. We might catch few more then the rain came and we quit.
I thought you already leave for Anderson fishing trip. Good luck.

Can't really complain as we caught a lot of Kokes, but kept carefully returning them. Found thousands of 2 year fish and not many 3 year fish. Makes me wonder what's up on Ririe. The fish were predominately 35-80ft deep. Surface water temp was around 64-65 degrees I have seen this before and all of a sudden the bigger fish show up. Hot color of the day was A Hot Pink SRG Lures / Kokanee lure and Hot Glow Pink Hoochies. I didn't see any nets on the surrounding boats so feel lucky to have caught over 20 fish. The biggest was 13 inches, which is a big change for the 2016 year. I like the bigger fish. The Black tail end of the reservoir has very green colored water with a brown tint. The water is still better towards the dam. If the weather stays stable the fishing will be best next week on the fishing gods charts. We shall see.

Some times I wonder if conversations would be different if you were all fishing together in the same boat. I am sure that there would be better communication with lines in the water together.
Everyone has legal rights, to keep fish legally caught, to return fish to the water, to keep your fishing secrets, to brag a little, to encourage a little more, to share information and so on.
The fact that you do not know each other personally is the reason for these challenging communications. Why don't you all meet the same day up at Anderson Ranch and get to know each other. Hit Lucky Peak again on yesterday June 22 .
Day started out windy , but by 10:30 it laid down really nice .
Hooked 9 Kokanee but only landed 6 .
Fish were between 11" and 14 "
Long lined two rods with a 1 oz egg sinker 3' of flashers and a watermelon Apex.
This set up out fished the downriggers with dodger and pink Hoochie 2 to 1.
Also tip all lures with shoepeg corn and scent .
Like I was told , I'm totally getting hooked on this fish .

Fished today from 6:30 until 10:30. One 22 1/2" male and a 17"male. Threw one back that may, may mind you, been 7"....was probably 5" long until I drug him around for 30-40 minutes. Lost 2 and had one follow my lure right to the boat and I played with him for a couple of minutes until he got bored. All were shallow at less than 10'. Orange is the color still.

Had are best day so far fishing for Kok's
Ended the day with 10 Kokanee and one Rainbow .
Two fish at 17" 3 at 15" and the rest 12" to 14"
We could have had our limit of 6 fish each if I didnt toss an 8" fish back to grow some more.
Fish were all caught between 15' to 25' on Radical Glow Lures behind flashers or dodgers.
It was a hot sum bitch today 100 degrees at home and it felt a lot hotter on the lake.
I left the camera at home , so I only have pics from our kitchen.

Fished Anderson Monday and this morning. Sorry to report that we did not even get a bite. Tried most everything in the tackle box from 15-50 feet. Did not mark many either on the fish finder. Fished from Curlew to halfway to Fall Creek.
Talked with a few other boaters and one said he fished 8 hours and caught one. The people at the hotel and the Pine store said they are hearing that it is real slow but if you do land something it is good sized.
Reservoir is pretty full at 93% (hydromet) so maybe a lot of food from run off - who knows. I will try again in a few weeks.

Starting to see a solid pattern now at LP. Having consistent action even when the armada isn't around springs shores and the first skinny spot towards the LP dam. Simple neon/green/body with small hammer silver blade wedding ring 22" behind a small four blade silver/orange flasher (smaller flashers are out performing larger right now) in the early am or clouded cover DR sets 12ft to 20ft. By 9am on a sunny day you had better moved to an orange neon body or your just fishing instead of catching. (1.8mph ish..but standard lots of change in speed if it doesn't happen in a pass over a good spot)
Mostly tipping with a single shoepeg soaked in the blue herring giz. Also note that even though everyone who fishes kokes knows you can't use yellow corn I've found at least 30 LP kokes that don't care whether it's yellow or white.
Used to pretty much live by the pink hoochie or micro hoochie behind a silver dodger but the old school wedding ring behind a bladed flasher has been 10 time more productive at LP for my boat.

Im running two poles with entirely different set ups, and Im catching about the same amount of fish on each one (give or take a few). On one rod i have a pink small dodger with a pink hootchie and pink corn with shrimp oil. On other rod I have a watermellon flasher with an orange wedding ring. I catch slightly more on the orange. My buddy was using a green dodger on one, and red on another. I caught 5 to his one.. I caught them from 16 to 28 ft, depending on where I was in the reservoir. Caught most of my fish in about a three hundred square yard area, which was nowhere near the armada of boats I saw in other spots..

Fishing was good. We trolled from Piperline Creek to Goose Neck bay. DR from 15' ~ 25' deep. Copper dodger + pink squid + shoepeg corn + scent.
Seagull had their share when we cleaned the fish, after the meal they kept follow our boat for a while.

We fished the pine camp ground side from lime creek down to Pine campground.

That was a great link. Printed off a couple good maps of the mini camps and got the phone numbers to check water levels later in the month. Last summer we fished Deadwood late in July and the fish were just starting to turn pink and were really hungry. Hoping to hit something like that in Dworshak. The grandson loves the catching and I like the eating so hoping we get enough to freeze some and fill up the smoker. Thanks again!

Go to www.dworshak.org, when the page comes up look for "Water Levels and click on it, this will show the current and past water levels. By the end of July the water level will probably be down 25'-30' or more, the best time for the boat in campsites is near full pool, the shoreline will be wet, and muddy in some places.

I am thinking of targeting the Chinook the next time I go up. I caught one last year that was about 24" but that was early May and I was long-lining without weight. What depth do you think you were fishing? I take it that 135' with a 2 oz at 1.5 MPH puts you down to 35-40' or so.

I read that and see most of the tiny Koke's near the launch at Spring Shores....there are thousands of them. There are some large swim bladder marks at 50-60 feet and I am thinking they are salmanoid of some sort. I have a jig rod setup but every time I want to try jigging I have my limit and the ski fools and putz water crafters are starting to show up. Fished from 6.30am to 3pm Saturday.
Caught over 25 (kind of lost count) to the boat with only 2 poles and DR setups dragging green and orange wedding ring/silver hammer blade behind a small silver orange multi blade flashers at 7' to 14'. We were catching fish consistently right up to the time we had to head out. Five were BIG nice 3 year fish! The rest were the 14 to 15 variety which are great until you compare them with the double sized nice ones. Tried a tuna oil, Mike's blue herring soaked shoe peg solution and it was magic. Dunk the entire lure in it and they liked it. We could find several nice groups in the 20 to 35 depth but they weren't interested in our offering. Nailed a big one on the way down at 10 feet after an hour of mediocre action at 20' with those 14" fish and that ended up being the answer. Once we figured out that they were on top it was pretty much a hit every couple minutes. Switched all of the my WR spinners to a #6 treble and we upped our boated rate notably. Lost two of the larger version fish way out but the rest were hooked up solid.
We also marked our first large fish catch location and caught all of the big fish from that group in a 100 yard stretch going with and against the wind. Lesson there is obviously find that winning spot and work it til it quits producing. Only four or five boats around us most of the day and none were in our super sweet spot. They were all along the rock wall on the East Side by Charcoal Creek. We caught a lot of smalls there but the big kids were out away from the bank and more towards the next big opening. I guess the armada was up by the marina since there weren't many boats in our area and they didn't really stay around long.
I'm also very happy to report that LP kokes are not turned off by a fine cigar! Once we had so many it really didn't matter if we caught fish we fired up and really went to relaxing. Fish kept cutting into our leisure time! Perfect day.....

Fished from 6.30am to 3pm Saturday.
Caught over 25 (kind of lost count) to the boat with only 2 poles and DR setups dragging green and orange wedding ring/silver hammer blade behind a small silver orange multi blade flashers at 7' to 14'. Yes the bite is on I agree that if ya find em , stay on em - we ran away for awhile looking and came right back and started catching again - we long line at about 15-20 ft depth . I think a lot of down rigger guys are fishing under them - was a great day - I also agree that we ought to kick back any Chinooks as they are in there for a reason - anyway the small ones are going to be mushy to eat - looks like we have a long time yet as I saw no blush on any of the big ones - any one caught a 20 in yet?

I have some to share. Fished Sunday 7:30 to 3:00. Rain and wind came up and got nasty for a bit after that. Wind was a factor all day but came and went. Tried what we did last week and got nothing. Adjusted tell we found the schools at 50' to 60' started to produce. Best was dark colored lures with dark color dodgers. Black and silver dodger with black kokabow spinner and dark purple and pink dark blue kokabow spinner. Long lines did not work so well any thing we did. Down rigger at 60 was the best

Thanks for the link. Technology is not my friend and the help every one has given is great. Looking forward to this trip and all the info has helped a lot. Only been out a couple times this year and the luck hasn't been very good. My grandson thinks the old guy has lost his touch this year. lol

One fish was a big 18 incher and the rest were 16. We had 2 dowriggers set at 20" but for some reason coundnt get a bite on those. Saw some people netting some fish.

Fished the rock wall to charcoal bay and boated 20 lost at least 6 and had a crazy amount of hits with no hook up w/2 guys 2 DR's one extra pole long lining. We think that they are grabbing at the flashers? Caught four trout but that was running an orange white triple teaser long line. That one did catch a kokanee which surprised me. A half dozen nice three year fish but the majority are 14". The bulk of the action continues to be orange wedding ring behind an orange and silver four blade flasher small size. Tuna/mikes blue giz corn combo. We got three early on green but they went to orange very early about exactly as the sun got on the water. The action early was at 6'! We set the rigs 50ft back on the DR and wammo. By 1pm we had to go to 16' but got hits right up until we had to get going. Not much action for the few around us but a couple guys asked and we set them in the right direction. The surprise was that they were so active up high. Marked a bunch of nice groups in the 30's but never could get any takers down there. I suspect that you need to go darker and bigger at that depth and orange on the top is so active now it's hard not to stick with it.
Great day fishing with my elderly Dad for the first time in years. We used to slay the kokes on LP 25 years ago. I got a much better outfit for "us" old guys to fish out of now and it was very worth it! Might go back to the marina area tomorrow for a change of scenery.

Fished 6-9pm. And we forgot the net unfortunately. Had 5 bites and brought two nice sized fish to the boat and lost them. Hooked into one BIG fish that stripped about 50 yards of line then snapped it all off from the reel itself. Landed 2 bass and 1 trout that hit the hoochies and one pike minnow on a five of diamonds. Used dodgers with hoochies tipped with showpeg corn and 2 oz. weights. We landed almost ever species of fishin lucky peak EXCEPT the ones we were after.

fished from 5pm to 930pm yesterday. Mainly trying out the new boat. Going from a 15 foot bass boat, to a 22 foot jet boat is kind of overwhelming, lol. We did do alright, though. Boated 7 koks and 1 nice trout. We lost 6 as well. All the action was on green doggers with pink hoochie. 16 feet was the magic number, but we did get the trout and one kok on the long line.
Had this duck fly in and almost hit the boat. She followed us around for at least an hour.
Here is the pic of the fillets. Can anyone tell which two are from the trout? I cant from the pic, it was very niced sized and very pink.

Hit the marina area for a change. Super busy right of the bat from 7 am then things slowed at and it was then really slow around 11. 11ft today with our standard orange wr spinner setup. Only needed the two dr poles again as it's just too much work to manage any more. We got one monster thick good one that I thought was going to be our magic 20 but he was a Kellen Moore 20. I almost stomped him to get that extra half inch but decided not. That thing fought hard and stripped out line 30 ft from the boat. WHAT FUN! Several 17" and one 18" to go with Daddy Big. Also the standard dozen little ones too. I got some flack from another boat for letting go a couple of little ones. (all good natured)
Caught a perch today up in Robie by accident. The place was thick with fish and I wanted to see what they were. 8" perch!
Also note that same small hen mallard landed in my boat (well on it.... seat) yesterday. It had a four or five second stare down with my cow dog and decided that this was not a good idea..they both seemed very surprised.

That's nice big boat with a lot of room for the family eh? Congratulation.
Fished LP today from 9:30 ~ 2:30PM, it was slow. boated 3 kok 12" ~ 14" and released a 14" rainbow trout. All the fish I caught with DR at 12' with Forfender + WR and shoepeg corn + scent.
The single mallard sometime follow my boat too. I gave her some old bread then she's happy. I had a picture that she took food from my wife hand. :) Last year I filmed a mallard that land on my boat platform for a short drive, then when the distance between her and the male duck (on the lake) greater then she jumped off and swim toward the male. Didn't see any duckling this year yet.

What shape and size are the Chinook?
We caught 1 Chinook a few days ago and it was getting very pink in color.
Are they still good eating at that stage or are they better smoking material?
The one we caught was maybe 4-5#.
It sure seems like the Kokanee numbers caught are less than last year but the average size is up some.

A few weeks ago I had two lines stacked on one downrigger. I had a hit that broke my 8lb test right off and I was sure I had lost my favorite lure which I didnt have a duplicate of. A few seconds later I had a hit on my other line and reeled in a 14" koke and in tow he also had my flasher and favorite lure I thought I had lost..

yes sir. I have 4 kids, wife, dog, and usually my dad tags along. That's a bit cramped for a 15 foot bass boat. But, its just as cramped on the new one. 15 feet of cabin, but all the kids think they need to be on the 7 foot deck.......Less room than before, lol.
We went Friday for 2 hours, and got into them a bit. Landed 4 and lost 4. They seem to be turning pink just a bit. A little color on the tail, and tips of the fins. Wont be long before the bite is off, so get em while u can

Long line caught several 10"-12" fish 2oz 60' back dodger and spinner pink and orange. Early in the day 65' on down rigger, later in the day downrigger 60' in water 80' deep, and 75' in 100' deep areas used darker dodger and darker spinner. Just head home from LP. If you launch your boat at Turner Gulch that will be OK. I saw few trucks towing boat turned in there, but that was about an hour ago. They blocked HW21 few hundred feet above the turn off to the dam.
Any way got 6 fat kok, one measured 17.5" the other from 12 -14" DR 7 ~ 18' deep.

Thanks for the information. I'll head up to Anderson tomorrow for just a day fishing. This'll be our Anderson first fishing trip in this year.
Today, I made an other adapter base for the electric Walker DR that will fit in the exiting Canon mount. Now I'm running electric wire, receptacle box and I'll see the smile on her face.
Last year we caught kok at 75' with manual Canon DR, after my wife cranked up 8lbs lead ball few times... and later that was my job to crank it up after she got a fish.:) That will be OK as long as she goes fishing, clean and cook, caned the fish then I'll not complaining...

I'm going to be launching at Spring Shores on Thursday - 7/21 - from my Kayak and trolling in the area. 2nd time EVER, fishing for Kokanee :-) 1st time was earlier this year in February. Had some hits but no hook-ups :-( Hopefully that will change tomorrow. It is supposed to be a hot day! Starting early in the morning. Do Kokanee feed like trout? Come up to surface during dusk and dawn? Or do they just stay suspended at certain depths all day long, depending on weather? Just wondering.... TIA and Tight Lines!

If water isn't too warm they will come to the top or closer to the surface early in the morning. With the warm weather we have had and all the boats, I would start at least ten feet down and continue dropping until you start getting bit. Last week I limited with only one at ten and the rest between 25-35 ft. Good luck.

That was a cute little pike minnow (Squawfish). Two years ago at Anderson Ranch, when the kokes were down around 70', I was trolling deep and hooked into what I thought was a Chinook. It was a 6lb pike minnow (weighed it with my cabelas electronic scale). I kept it till I got back to shore and checked the record and found the record was 7.8lb. Cheated again..... in 2003 I caught a 2.78lb crappie at brownlee. That was a few months after that kid caught the 3.5lb crappie. Mine was 17 and 1/2 inches, but it was skinny. Had it been a fatty, I could have had a record.. Close, but no cigar...

Nice Crappieslayer! We moved here this past August (2015) from Arizona. Love the fishing up here. Been to CJ Strike, Swan Falls, Lake Lowell, Farewell Bend, OR, Sagehen Res, Horsethief Res, and fly fished the Upper, Middle and Lower Boise, Upper, Middle and Lower forks of the Payette Boise River Downtown and Owyhee River. Been trying new waters, but haven't been up to the northern part of the Snake (Hells Canyon, Brownlee, Dvorak (sp?) but plan to try them soon. Haven't been skunked yet!
Though I would like to hook into some Kokanee soon! LOL! Do they bite pretty good in the fall?

Fished LP from 7 to 2:30 today. This morning there were HUGE waves at Barclay/dam. It was kind of an exciting unloading as the wind wanted to put my new pontoon boat back on the ramp and it was tricky program to keep it from washing up and then off of the docks in reverse. Very lucky that there were no other boats around so I could aggressively wiggle it around. YIKES
Medium good action today with 14 in the boat but only two keepers and we lacked our normal batch of the big ones. One decent and one bloody...the rest were the 14" kulls. We also long released a few more than normal. Towards the end of the day I was getting a steady stream of hits on one setup that was pulling it off the DR with no fish and the corn was still on the spinner. Just guessing but I think that they are hammering the flasher. Fish caught at 9ft until after 10am and then we made it down to 16ft with a hit every 20 minutes or so. Had one setup getting all of the love and finally switched flashers to a slightly larger batch of blades but more importantly orange edges to silver and BAM...that setup then started to get equal attention to my hot side (same orange WR spinners). Lesson at LP.....use orange and have orange on your flasher and you will catch fish!
Interesting about the talk of going deeper. I marked a few nice clusters at 25-35 ft around the lake and have yet to catch a single koke at LP this year deeper than 16ft. (of course I haven't spent that much time below 16ft since it seems to be very productive for our setups)
It was cool watching the choppers dip for the fire. The big red/white one plopped down right by us at mid morning by the fuel station. His rotor wash was within 50 yards of us at the widest point.

Went to Anderson Ranch yesterday, fished from 6:30 am to 1:00 pm. Fished from 30 ft to 80 ft, used every color and combination in my box, at various speeds, twisting and turning, NEVER got one bite or one fish, good luck.
Thank you for the info. We fished from 8:30AM till noon my wife boated 3 and I had couple hits but lost them. We had lunch with friends and the other two fishermen joined us and we really had good time. 5:00PM we went out again and fish until 7:00PM, wife caught a 19" kok. All the fish she caught from 60' to 75' deep. Copper color dodger and pink squid. The long line pole with 2oz sinker Ford Fender Kokabo with 60' line out did get any bite. Later I used 3 oz sinker and let more line out but still no action. Talked to few fisherman and they got none. She was the lucky today with 4 kok.
I forgot to mount the rod holder for her electric DR. May be that why she caught fish.

Thanks for the info SAWTOOTH. My Girlfriend and I were out on our kayaks today at Spring Shores and tried a few lures up top and tried going deeper with no luck at all. So I decided to try for some smallies along the lava rocks that were going into the water. I caught quite a few small ones!!! We were heading back to the marina and tried deeper for more Kokanees and I had a fish hit my Kokanee Rig. It felt like a nice one!!! After a decent fight I ended up bringing in a 20" Pikeminnow UGH! LOL! Oh well. Next time!
Here's my 20" Fish ;

Here is the size of smallies I was catching:

I forgot d/rigger. I made a downrigger w/ 30' black paracord,4# weight, scotty mini release, tied it to side of boat at 20' and started nailing big koke on pink hoochie

Nope that isn't me. We were around the corner photo right and on the other side of him when he scooped. It was interesting as it didn't look like his bucket closed correctly and he was leaking all the way to the drop on the top of the hill. I watched him through binocs and his later dumps didn't leak out like that....it looked like he almost gave that pictured pontoon a shower from our angle!
My boat is a Sylvan 20ft Fish n Cruise with black sides and top. Did you guys notice the backward trolling pontoon boat? I wonder if going backwards is the only way he can control the speed? Seemed awkward.
Anyways....if you want to catch kokes at LP with your kayak setup please try the following.
Go get a luhr jensen "jeweled bead kokanee troll" flasher. It is a small four blade silver on one side orange on the other with silver flash tape on each blade and a red fin. part # 3690-001-0157 (fire/silver p-lit. Then attach an orange body with silver hammer blade Macks wedding ring spinner exactly 28" of leader back. You can use the #6 single hook that they come with but I normally replace with a #6 treble hook as it seems we get more in the boat with that setup. Get a can of Green Giant shoepeg white corn (walmart has it) and a can of tuna fish in vegie oil and a bottle of Mike's blue herring giz (also at walmart). In the morning before you head out to fish (soaking over night for some reason seems less effective) drain the tuna oil and a little tuna flesh into a container with your corn. Add some blue herring oil and mix it all up. (You can also forego the herring oil as it's worked with and without...I just know it doesn't hurt and the pro koke guides all put giz on the offerings and so I do it too) I've also added sea salt and caught fish but no real noted difference and not enough testing to call that one a do or don't. It does kind of preserve your bait and seems to make things less gooey later in the day. Tip your treble hook with ONE SINGLE CORN (not three). I also dip the lure in the juice and run a rub the juice all over the flashers occasionally. Coming from steelie fishing background I believe smell cover up is critical.
Go get yourself 25' of parachute cord and as heavy a bell sinker as you can find to tie on the end. Then a DR release. Drop that thing down 9ft to start with your lure set EXACTLY 50' back of the DR release. Set your release as tight as possible so that you have to pull it out when you get one on. Note with a light DR weight it's harder to release so some testing required. You just need something heavy enough to maintain a controlled depth at your trolling speed. With this spinner setup you can paddle along testing to see that you have everything spinning and that is simply your target speed. (we fish 1.5 to 2.35 gps) The nice thing about a WR spinner is that they catch fish at all speeds and are much less speed or action critical. The pattern at LP is 9ft to start and drop it down until you don't catch fish through the day as the sun goes up. NOTE: if it's a cloudy day change to a green WR spinner and the results are the same.
So far this year in 9 trips to LP this exact system has boated 189 kokes and about that many bites and long releases. All but two fish have been caught using only two poles per day. (sometimes we tried a third long lining or a stacked dr but it was too much work and caused more tangles then we actually had production so we bagged it.
also...if hand lining your DR setup is too much of a hassle you can go buy a set of shower rod/curtain rings, bell sinkers, and a release for each one. You simply leave your DR down and hook the shower ring around your main cord and drop it to depth...you can stack em deep without having to draw up your DR ball every time you hook up or have a strike. Guys use this for stacking dr setups and not having to draw up every time your upper line gets hit.
Go get em!

Thanks for the information, F-Bomb! Sounds like great tips! Kokanee Fishing sures sounds like science! LOL! I'll try your suggestions on my next trip out! I did see that pontoon back trolling out there. It looked like a few Kokes being caught in the area I saw you guys. I was graphing a few at 10' on my fishfinder, then later in the day, they dropped down between 15' to 25'. I just couldn't hook onto any of them.

Sat Report...
Got to spring shores super early and fished for an hour without getting a sniff...we could have slept in! Finally caught a medium koke going into Robie Creek. Then we got inundated with squawkers! First ones all year. Also kept catching trout instead of kokanee but one was 19" and put up a pretty good tussle. She squirted eggs all over the boat when I was unhooking and releasing. Went out into the main lake with the 100 other boats and it was still very slow. I think we only caught five or six fish with the normal shallow setup. Didn't really see very many people netting either. A couple passers by reported super slow. We finally got into some action with a green spinner at 16ft but it was still what I consider slow. At noon we switched to pink hoochie with a silver smile blade towed behind a paper silver flasher setup which was the most flash I carry. WAMMO at 27 we started to finally get into fish on the custom pink hoochie setup. Switched both poles to pink and then we started to get busy. Had a cool little stretch at 21ft that boated three nice 17" fish and lost two that were similar. That only lasted a short time when a surf boat got right on our mark and spent five tries attempting to get a huge human being up on a board. Magically our fun was over.
I have never in my hundreds of days on LP seen that many boats and jet skis! Everyone in the area that owns a boat plus a few out of towners all decided that today was the day for LP. We also got swarmed by the America's Cup junior varsity regatta. They went right over your lines and one almost rammed us. She was cussing and leaning and finally couldn't make the tack and pulled out. Not a relaxing day but it was still lots of fun. Put some nice ones in the cooler today and while we worked hard for them it was worth it. Kind of cool to catch the big boys on a home made setup plus finally getting something down a little deeper than our standard surface setups.

I Fished from 4:30pm-7:30pm. I fished everything from 20-60 ft of water. I caught a lot really nice trout and some pike minnows. (Dodger pink hoochie) The trout were released and swam off looking really healthy. The pike minnows on the other hand, not so lucky. I was hooked up about every 10 minutes, but no luck on Kokes. This is my first time being skunked on kokes this year.... Still a great day on the water.

ditto what F-Bomb said...
Wife and I fished LP Saturday sun up till sun down with a few hour break on shore at day use site mid afternoon. Marking fish from 10-30 feet down with most around 20' but few takers. Tried different speeds, scents, colors but couldn't dial them in. Lots of rec boaters, jet skis, etc. - I don't usually complain about them because they have as much right to the water as fisherman but I cannot understand why they cut between my boat and shore when I'm 70 feet from shore and there is much more room on other side - but had that happen several times. Also saw the sail boats F-Bomb mentioned, I had no problem with them but one of them did catch a long line from my friends boat nearby.
We ended up keeping 3 koke, 18" was biggest.

I fished on the 23rd and found the fish to be at different depths dependent on the location. Fished at the the point North of Freeman Creek and found the fish at 30-40 feet. Then went up to Elk Creek and fished the rest of the day. Found fish to be anywhere from 20 feet to 100 feet. Caught 13 nice fish and had a great time.

Can't really see inside the mouth but I'm almost certain that is a chinook. The large Bull trout we catch while fishing for spring chinook have unnaturally large bug eyes and bright pink spots. In the high mountain lakes and streams they can be almost dark green in color. Look inside its mouth, if there is black - it is a chinook.

The best thing you can do right now is tow your boat to deadwood as fast as you can possibly drive. By the time you get up there and back, your boat and trailer should be in pretty bad shape because of the roads. By the time you get it all out back together it will be next season and the fishing may be better.
In this scenario your wife should still be mad at you and your 2nd mortgage will still be needed for the repairs. So nothing lost.
Or you can just start picking off jet skiers one at a time... Good luck, I hope fishing picks back up for you.

Report from Tues:
bright sunny slight breeze early to dead calm to a steady almost white cap NE wind by the end of the day very light recreational traffic until about 3pm
....arrived on site at the spring shores 8am ish...about 50 boats from main pool to the white pipe. We started with pink hoochie/silver smile blade behind the macks paper flasher at 21ft which was the magic recipe on Sat and my standard LP go to fish catching setup the orange wr winner behind a paper flasher at 9ft 1.85 to 2.07mph gps. Orange had bite after bite after bite but they wouldn't actually take it and get hooked up. We caught a 14 on the pink right in the middle of the armada and so I switched both to that setup and we only caught one more fish in an hour. Switched back to the one and one and the orange setup proceeded to get over 50 hits and catch 20 plus while pink at 20 was nothing but a spectator that required a corn rebait every 10 minutes with no fish! We lost at least 5 fish at the boat and another 5 that you got to feel wiggle and then come right off. By midday we put both on orange at 9ft and one pole got 4 to 1 fish but the second setup did get some action.
We found a few decent 3 year fish but the majority were the 14" version but they are footballing up slightly over the last couple of weeks. All still nice and chrome and the meat is excellent. One big male 3 year fish is just getting his fighting face going. I normally release all of the non-3 year fish that aren't bloody and since we are top watering with no great pressure change on the fish they usually do fine on release but I had an uncle along that doesn't get to fish much and he loves the salmon so this day was about gathering meat.
So I don't know what all of the talk about slow fishing at LP? I've took a five year hiatus from koke fishing LP but I never remember having as much action and as steady throughout the day as we have had this year. This is all just a lot like big game hunting. You don't hunt where you don't see sign. Kokes have signs too! Notice the birds? There are a bunch of osprey at LP and they are nailing the kokes all day. You are seeing very little major fish clusters at 20 to 40ft. The graph shows massive plankton salad mostly in the top 20ft of water and very rarely deeper. All of those clues are saying the fish are dispersed and they are on top. You have to move around and you have to offer the color and flash that they want.
I also experimented with some pink fire corn home made stuff and it did get some action. My instincts for getting fish always takes over and I go right back to my known and confident bait and that is corn with a tuna oil soak. I"m always concerned that I'll brew up a batch of fish repellent by accident!

Fished LP today from 9:30AM ~ 1:00PM. Woa! Smoke from Pioneer's fire was so thick on the reservoir. Fishing was slow too, saw many boats in the Sam Creek area but didn't see anyone net fish. I smelled smoked bacon and stop by to say hi to nepetbutler. He's happy with the new AC on his boat. How long the cool air will last Mr. Nepetbutler? Lake water temp was 67 deg. and that was my cool off source.
Fishing was slow, I caught 2 kok, 1-17" already changed color 1-14" and a new planted Chinook. 17" kok was on the long line pole 40' line with 5/8 oz weight red/silver flasher + red WR. Other two was with DR @ 20' deep +dodger + pink squid.
Thanks F-Bomb for the good info. at LP. Next time, hopefully I will do better.

This year has been great to me as well but I took the wife out Friday and Sunday to "involve" her in my spending and couldn't get a single strike! Apex-micros in every color combination along with 3 baits, every blade I have and nothing both days! Was smacking them in the face from 17'-25' and nothing! We did see a bald eagle squeezing meat and my son thought it was the coolest thing ever! Going back out on Sat so hopefully it's back on! Thx for the solid info!
P.S. you will have to let me in on the Kokanee Anonymous meeting you went to in order to take a 5 yr hiatus! Peace

It's easy to quit. Sell all of your stuff and move a long long way off. I really don't think people appreciate how incredible it is to have a fishery like Lucky Peak so close and easily accessible to a huge population. Does anybody on this forum know enough about kokanee to know if the great big ones are really old planters? I was under the impression that the big fish were a 3 year cycle spawning critter but I was watching a video and the guy said that the washington department of fish were putting in sterile planters and the big ones were simply older and don't spawn and die. I'm seeing our big fish turning red so I wonder if that is a different breed and system. Maybe we have a combo at LP. The other explanation of size was related to the food source availability of shrimp and plankton variety and quality.
I also forgot to mention that one of my keys to guessing that the masses are on top is that when I tour around the lake and don't see nearly as many fish as normal. You only see a tiny field of range under 15ft with down sonar so when there isn't any fish where you know that there should be it tells you that they are on the top 15ft. If you have ever had the opportunity to be above a boat going over shallow fish you will see the fish part and then work back to their original position as the boat passes over. If you fish top water troll for kokes you need to put your presentation quite a bit further back of your DR ball in order to get it through the mass of fish as they settle back to their spot. When I was a prototype tester for Botttom Line way way back in the day I got to play with the side sonar stuff and you could see it and that confirms the earlier comments.

A/c kept me cool for 4 hrs using ice packs. Used 2 amps on battery. Gonna try big blocks of ice on Tue. Nailed 3 koke at 1 pm down 20'. Will try more shallow like jktoons

Fished LP today (6am to 12:30pm) with my buddy in his boat. If you saw the camo-submarine-looking boat out there today, that was us.
Very smokey. Wasn't too bad in the early morning, but got worse as the day progressed. However, we were lucky enough to each catch our Kokanee limits today. No downriggers, so we were long-lining with lead weights. Using Ford Fenders, started with 1 to 2 oz lead, then switched to 3 and 4 oz. Most of the fish were caught on 3 oz. Had a slow start (only 1 in the boat in the first hour) with only a few bites. Taking some of the advice from F-Bomb from 7/22 (and thank you F-Bomb for sharing as we're never too old to learn new tricks or confirm old ones), I had brought some tuna/blue herring-soaked corn. We switched to that (using regular corn to start) and the bite immediately picked up. Got several more fish in the boat. Then it slowed down again. Switched from red and orange wedding ring-type lures to green lure and again the bite immediately picked up. Got to 8 fish in the boat by noon. Then we hit a spot directly across from the marina and landed 4 more in 20 minutes. Yahoo! And although there were not a ton of boats out there, I must say, we never saw anyone else going for a net while we were out there. Could have been due to how thick the smoke was. Hope others were catching too. Anyway, great day!

Great report! I'm glad to hear that the stuff is working for other people as well.
We went up Fri evening but this trip was designated as girlfriend and first try boat camping with our new setup trip. Trolled from the mouth of the main lake directly to the first big bay for a camping spot and caught four of the 14" variety on orange spinners at 12ft. Just a wild guess but I estimate about an hour of real fishing time. Found a good camp dock site and had an incredible evening of steak and halibut off of the BBQ. Crank up the tunes and relax to several bottles of good wine. Beautiful clear night and there was a really cool meteor shower. Woke up at 5am and it was apocalyptic with smoke. We had to get back to town pretty early so we only got to fish for a couple of hours. Really slow...only three fish and one squawker. Had a few take downs with no hook ups but generally about a third of my normal experienced results. The fish n game guy that drives around and checks people stated that it's been really slow.
It's interesting to hear and see the green spinner report. Being so smokey and dull light conditions I think that confirms my suspicions that if it's dull light you should have on green and if it's bright light you should have on neon orange. Seeing your flat green blade tells me that maybe we would even be better off going away from the hammer silver blade to the all green presentation? I'll try that next time it's cloudy and we shall see.

Everyone,
To help with the I D of Chinook, go to SRG Lures face book page, or srglures.com and you will see a nice Chinook that was caught at Anderson Ranch approximately 5-6 weeks ago. Great picture and you can see the shape and color to expect when a person catches a Chinook there

seems to be slowing down, as the fish turn color. We went out sun. and did alright, but it took all day. fished 6-4, and landed 7 fish. Lost just as many if not more. They still seem yo be running shallow. I ran 2 rigs at 10 feet, and 2 at 20 feet. Got one on the 20 footer, the rest on the 10 footers. I tried the orange spinner trick I have read on hear, but to no avail. Ended up back to pink hoochies to catch fish. End of the season blues.
We are headed up to magic reservoir today, for the weekend. My mom and step dad live in Fairfield, and say the bit is ON at magic. No koks, but the trout that come out of there are as pink as koks. I'm not a big trout fan, and tend to just smoke them, but I will eat magic trout all day.

The only reason people become band is for belittling other fishermen or bad language, sexual, religious and any other form of harassment. If you have been warned, the tolerance level goes to Zero after the warning. Good conversations and disagreements have their place, if the posts are respectful. The last thing that we want is to ban folks. I think this conversation has run its course. Please change the subject on this thread.

That is funny, if you sub orange for green that is what has been working for me. Well, right up until a week ago when I changed to mini orange hoochies behind an orange and green dodger.
Strange year. I guess I am lucky as I was never skunked and I was able to bring in 2 over 18", 3 over 19" and 2 at 20"+ this year. But then I caught a bunch that were 14" and under and even a few that were smaller than the lure...and to think this would be the year that I bought a new boat.
Anyway, prepping for Cascade and will be there for 9 days. Last time I was there we boated 80 trout with most over 18" and 2 over 25". Perch, well that is another story. Caught 2 this year trolling with 3-1/2" broken back Rebels and divers. Nothing on bait, jigs or anything else....
Very strange year.

Anyone else looking forward to fall fishing this year? Lower water temps, less traffic on the lake and a chance to be on the lake during the change of seasons! Hopefully the Kokes will start biting again towards the end of the month. And.... the during this "oh most holy" time of the year the little people will be back in school and off the lake! My wife and I will be bouncing between Willapah Bay, on the Washington coast, and Lucky Peak. Can't wait!

Still very very slow at LP. Survived the little storm that passed over at 9am. We only caught 3 kokes and all 13-14" plus one nice trout. Only had five take downs without a hook up. We tried a lot of misc stuff at 20-40 ft where we were marking schools but the only action was on top with DR at 5 ft! Orange spinner once again got it all and after we went for three hours without a sniff. We couldn't get a bite at 9ft but did at 5 and 6. i should have started out way up on top and moved down but we went right to 20ft where we marked most of the schools.
That rain put down the grossest black gunk all over my beautiful boat! No wonder the fish won't bite...the water is polluted with soot. It was really nice for an hour after the storm because you could breath and not taste the air!
A slow day of trolling for kokes is a lot better than most things!

I went out on my kayak this past Wednesday (8/10) from 9am to 1pm at Shore Springs. It was a beautiful morning with a few motor boats trolling around with down riggers and a few longliners. (I am getting all this kokanee jargon down, I think! LOL!!!) I started off long lining 1 rod rigged with a 4" dodger (prism) with a green WR (silver blade) behind it around 15'. My other rig had a cowbell system with an orange WR with silver blade behind it. I was running that shallower between surface and 10'. I was getting hits on both rigs and throughout the 2, I brought in 2 14" Kokanee's. They were my first kokanee ever caught! I don't know if there is any "unwritten" rule to release Kokanee under a certain lenght. Is there? They are a tough fish to fish for, or it was fairly slow. I talked to a few other anglers and some were catching a few and others were not getting hit. I took a break from trolling and fished for some smallmouth and even brought in a few squawfish that were properly disposed of. Just want to thank F-Bomb for the advice he gave me on 7/22. Next time I go, I plan on using some salt water tactics my Dad taught me to see if it works. The action of Kokanee reminds me of smelt and mackeral when I used to live in SoCal and catch those species. We will see what happens :-) Enjoy the pics - I told my woman I was bringing home dinner. Man do they taste good!!! Pan fried on butter with some spices, served with brown rice and some cucmber slaw :-) (Sorry - no pics of dinner) 87708771877287738774

I was at the lake yesterday to pull the kids and their friends around on a wakeboard. I saw three fish that were on the surface, two were dead and belly up and one was just swimming along the surface until he came to our boat then went down. All were in full spawning colors. The two dead ones looked like they may have spawned out already. I think you are going to catch nothing but trout, and next years fish if you go now.

I've been twice in the past two weeks and both trips were really slow. Only a few fish boated per trip. Slow fishing isn't worth it to fight the wake boats and breath in that nasty soot that has been hanging over LP for the past four weeks. I check this forum almost daily to see if the bite has come back on but it appears that it has not. I'm good with next years fish if we can get some good action. Heck for years and years we thought 14" kokes were awesome! Elefantdude.....I turn back the ones that seem strong unless they are the 17 plus 3rd years because they are so fantastic on the BBQ. Also judged by what I have in the freezer. I don't think that they are as wonderful after a few months frozen so if I have a good collection in bags I am less aggressive on the taking part of fishing.
It's getting pretty close to salmon/steelhead time over on the Columbia and we are also going for a coastal trip in a few weeks so that will have to suffice!
Way way back in the day we used to troll flies long line up at LP and have a great time working trout. They would hammer a wooly bugger and fight hard on a light fly pole. Might have to see if that is still the case up there this fall. We did catch a number of very large trout this summer but I'm tainted and consider them somewhat of a nuisance when I'm looking for kokanee. hmmm
