I made a aluminum skeg for my new st-80 I-pilot today I have made a few SS ones but after hearing about my buddy raising up forgetting it was there and cutting his head I decided to make one a little more forgiving this is how I made mine first I used 4'' schd. 40 aluminum pipe not tube (pipe is measured on the inside. tube is measured on the outside ) and trued the ends on the lathe
now turned the end bevels and the hose clamp grooves.
now over to the mill. set up the DRO and mill the center groove for the skeg.
along with a 5/16 groove that will straddle the minn-kota skeg to help it from rotating.and start the parting process.
this is it separated
now I need to back bevel the skeg groove to fit the skeg on the minn-kota because it is flaired
while it was milling I ruff cut the new skeg and test fit and marked out for the hose clamp grooves.
cutting the hose clamp grooves
now to part 2
