Headed to New Melones

Figured I would post since there seems to be a lack of posts. Headed up to NM tomorrow morning to fish Saturday and stay the night and fish Sunday. I was up there camping for 5 days the middle of June and did real well. I will post a report when I get back.

You should be able to get limits between the ramp and the bridge as they were everywhere for the derby a few weeks ago.

I liked you post over on FS about Del Valle. I just started kokanee fishing and my uncle told me they planted them last year or the year before. We fished NM for 5 days in mid June and hammered them with biggest fish in the 14-15" range. This weekend we had 3 limits for 3 on Saturday and 2 limits for 2 on Sunday. Biggest going 13.5" and all but 2 were males.

Mission Accomplished! Good work. Funny how all those males dominate the catch... All trying to impress the ladies I believe.

If you get a chance to go to Del Valle just go to heron bay to the dam as that is where the deep water resides. No guarantees but somebody needs to prove they might still be there.

Just thought I would revive this old post rather than starting a new one! We're heading to Melones this Sat. To scout out the kokes for the 2014 Season. Planning on camping and fishing the 1st weekend of May.

I just can not believe how that Murphy's Lollipop bug has been such a HOT kokanee lure for me. Every lake I fish it, it catches fish!!! Thanks, Joe Fish for the tip on Murphy's lures...like back in 2007??

Expecting melones to really come alive soon, but I think it will be a short season due to the water levels. Here's our board shot of the fish we brought home. Dinner tonite, gift some to the neighbors and some in the freezer for another nite!
