Its that time of the year

So what do you guys use for the tube? Something commercial, a stir straw, ? Have you tried any of the rubber leg material in addition to the crystal flash?

    Ice fishing

We use the same sort of rig here - a fairly small spoon with the hook removed and then suspend a jig or glow hook 6 - 18 inches below that and bait with corn or maggots. It can be jigged or dead sticked. Someone told be about a fisherman using an attractor rig through the ice last year and...

    Long lining Kokanee rod

I checked E-Bay and there is currently a cannon mini troll with the accessory kit (rod holder, ball, release) - expires in 2 days - current bid was $51 + $15 shipping

    Long lining Kokanee rod

Consider investing in a clamp on downrigger - scotty and cannon both make a version. With a downrigger ball and a release (I like the Chamberlain release - expensive but very effective) your in for about $125 - $140 maybe less if you can find one on e-bay or craigslist or the KFF classifieds...

    Shocked while fishing

I decided to try a little walleye fishing for a change of pace and went out to Canyon Ferry reservoir yesterday morning. I'm out in the middle of the lake when a storm comes blowing in over the mountains. A little thunder in the distance and a pretty good rain shower, but small in size, and I...

    buying new batterys ?

It's interesting that none of the industry developed material promotes the use of golf cart batteries for trolling motor applications. I don't have any experience with them, but I know I've seen several posts on this site and verified with a battery store employee that they have far superior...

    Helena Valley Regulating Resevoir

No - I haven't been on MFF. Took a look - looks interesting, but didn't see much on MT

    Helena Valley Regulating Resevoir

I don't know what you mean?

    Helena Valley Regulating Resevoir

I hit the regulating resevoir on Saturday morning. It's definitely at full pool right now. Hit the lake about 7:00 am and had it all to myself. Had a limit of 10 in the 12 - 15 inch range in the boat by about 10:00. Shook off a couple small ones and lost a couple at the boat. Water...

    Glow Inc. Paint

So has anyone had a chance to compare some of the various manufacturers or have experience with specific ones? It looks like Glow Inc runs $8 per 1/2 oz, Glow Mates runs $10 per ounce and looks to have the widest selection of colors and SuperDs Kosmic runs $10-12 per 2 oz.

Seperate batteries for Electronics and trolling motor???

You didn't mention whether you have an outboard and whether it is electric start. As SuperD indicated, I would be hesitant to use my starter battery for my trolling motor...time to go, click, click, click. If no outboard or if it's a pull start, no worries. I have used one of the little gel...

    I-pilot/new down rigger advice

On the i-pilot I don't use the route recording a lot because the lake I troll is pretty tight so at some point I have to reel in, turn around and head the other way. I use the anchor feature a lot, cruise control some and as far as I'm concerned, the auto-pilot is a must have, especially if you...

    I-pilot/new down rigger advice

With the I-pilot, each route has a start point A and an end point B. You can tell it to start at either end, so if you end your circle (B) just short of your start (A) you should be able to tell it to pick up your route at point A and keep going in the same direction.

    Downrigger Releases

I'm a big fan of the Chamberlain releases. I was a little bit concerned about putting a twist in my mono when clipping the line into the release, but I'm going to braid or nanofil on all my trolling rods so that concern is eliminated. I did loose a stacker when I grabbed the downrigger ball to...

    fish batter

I like a 1, 2, 3 beer batter we always used on halibut in Alaska. 1 can of beer, 2 cups of krusteaz pancake mix and 3 eggs. If you whip the eggs whites stiff and then fold the rest of it in it makes a very light batter. Add seasoning to your taste - pepper, cajun, garlic what ever. Works...

level-wind reel on a spinning rod

Another option if the rod has enough guides would be to strip most of them off the rod and rewrap them as a spiral wrapped rod, slowly rotating the guides as you move toward the tip. I'm hoping to pick up a Vance's spiral wrap this year.

    Daiwa Sealine SG17LC3B any reviews??

I recently picked up an ambassadeur 5500LC, but haven't had a chance to try it out. Have you looked at the Daiwa AccuDepth ICV15? It looks like the smallest of the line counter reels that I could find (9.9 ozs), but its a bit on the spendy side at around $165 bucks.

things we are doing to our boats for this years fishing season

There isn't much room under the floor - a center channel for the livewell intake/drain and the rest is foam. If I could put a gastank under the floor, that would open up a great spot at the transom for the storage I'd like to have, but I don't think the floor space is deep enough.

things we are doing to our boats for this years fishing season

I bought my boat (crestliner canadian 165) when it was cold and figured out last spring when it thawed that the floor was rotting out. I muddled through the summer, but pulled it out recently. I ordered the marine grade plywood, stitched it together (floor's 56" wide at the widest point), used...

How is the big game season treated you this year?

My youngest daughter decided at the last minute to come home from college and hunt with the old man for opening day of elk season. She was rewarded with a 4 X 5 bull - her first elk - that she had down by 8:15. Center punched him from 302 yards and put him down in his tracks (.270WSM with 150g...
