    Fish Finders

Not sure what KSL is, but not adverse to a used motor at all. Thanks

    Fish Finders

You are so right about the cost to repower the boat. Going to a Yamaha 30hp set up was almost $7K and a Merc setup is about $5K. The problem is that the boat is light, side console and perfect for the small mountain lakes in my area. I guess the other option is to take the boat into the local...

    Fish Finders

Not really sure about max HP rating on the old boat. I have seen up to 40hp 2 strokers on the boat in videos, but apparently Tracker has not done a very good job of maintaining records on the older boats. I did make several calls and got a wiring diagram out of it, but it wasn't even for the...

    Fish Finders

Congrats. I took a look at that model and it looked great. Just trying to figure out whether to pull my 35hp 2 stroke 1987 Merc and go with a new 4 stroke. That and a new fish finder. Like you, my lakes are frozen right now.

    Thoughts on a fish finder?

nuff said. Helps a lot in the choosing. Guess I need to call Hummingbird and have a chat with their technical folks as to model of unit and transducer set up. Thanks, SuperD

    Thoughts on a fish finder?

Found the items at a West Marine store. After playing with them, are back down to the Lowrance and the Hummimgbird. The biggest difference appears to be touchscreen or not. My iPad has a touchscreen and I wonder how easy it is to get fish slime and scratches on the touchscreen. Is this a...

    Fish Finders

Please let us know how easy it was to install and how it is working for you. I am looking to replace my fish finder but it will be June before I get to my fishing area and get my boat remotored.

    Thoughts on a fish finder?

IF I am not mistaken, I think I have received recommendations on the following: Garmin Echomap RayMarine Dragonfly or Element Lowrance Elite ti7 or HD 7 Hummingbird HELIX 7 CHIRP (I realize that several of these were really 9s, but I don't have room for a 9" display.) They all seem to fit in...

    Thoughts on a fish finder?

I would like to play with the units a little. While there is no Cabelas or Bass Pro Shop close to where I am for the next couple of months, I haven’t been impressed with either company’s sales force. There is a marine store near me, guess I will take a look there. Meanwhile, I will read all I...

    Thoughts on a fish finder?

Ok, narrowed to A few manufacturers, I have owned several Lowrances in the past and never had any issues with them or their tech support. Any ideas where I can get my hands on a few of them to actually see the displays, etc?

    Thoughts on a fish finder?

I steered away from Lowrance because of some poor reviews I read. Anyone have any experience with dealing with their support folks?

    Thoughts on a fish finder?

Spent a few hours looking at specs and reviews on Lowrance, Garmin and Bottomline. Think I agree that I want the Hummingbird Helix in either 7 or 9 inch screen. They make a version with chirp, SI and DI. Haven’t found a good source for the Gen2 but Gen3 might be on sale...will start watching...

    Thoughts on a fish finder?

Thanks for the inputs. From a budget perspective, hadn’t really thought about it. Best answer would be hopefully under $1,000. From a use perspective...trolling for Kokanee across the Western States, maybe some trout in smaller lakes. Not sure about down, side, CHIRP, looking for advice...

    Thoughts on a fish finder?

My project boat is outfitted with an old Eagle fishfinder. Since I am going to be doing some rewiring, thought I might replace the fishfinder with one that would be excellent for trolling for Kokanee. I used to run Lowrances on my boats, but that was 15 years ago. Not at all up to date on...

Mounting downriggers on an old aluminum Tracker

That worked, thanks. Killer idea...I like that better than a pedestal. I still have to deal with the wood rot on the top of the floatation compartments, but this would work great. Did you do this yourself or have someone make it for you?

SuperD For some reason I can’t view your graphic. It asked me to join another website, which I did but still can’t see it.

Mounting downriggers on an old aluminum Tracker

Good idea, that was my going in position...until I took a close look at the condition of the plywood. It shows a lot of degradation due to being stored inside and outside since 1987. So no matter what I do, I need to tear it apart and rebuild it with some decent marine grade wood and seal it...

    Tube Flies

Are you finding that the hand tied tube flys are catching more fish? Any particular colors to try, besides pink? I ask because a number of years ago I was an avid fly fisherman and spent hours tying my own flys. I was meticulous about following the guides exactly. My 14 year old daughter...

Mounting downriggers on an old aluminum Tracker

The boat is in my barn up in McCall Idaho, while I am in my “winter cabin” down in Hermosa Beach. Yes, I am a wimp for not liking to live in 5 feet of snow for 5 months. So no pictures for now. The two areas look like flotation containers and are located on each side and are about 3 feet long...

Mounting downriggers on an old aluminum Tracker

(Off post). Thanks for all the great advice on rods and reels. I bought a 1987 16.5 ft aluminum side console Tracker boat to use in the Boise Idaho area. After chucking the old 2 stroke motor for a 30hp 4 stroke, I am now ready to start thinking about mounting a couple of downriggers for the...
