An unusual form of Lake Lice! Sailboats!

I'm not sure about that. I know the rule is that sailboats have the right of way over power boats. In general, this is a good rule, given that power boats can alter direction and speed at any time, while sailboats cannot do this as easily. However, in this case, no collision was possible...

An unusual form of Lake Lice! Sailboats!

How could a sail boat traveling at high speed have the right of way over a power boat when crossing the stern of the power boat which was traveling in a straight line at 1.5 mph? All they had to do was tack about 20 yards sooner than they did...fencing

An unusual form of Lake Lice! Sailboats!

My wife and I were fishing at Huntington Lake, CA last week. We were top-lining, trolling parallel to shore at about a stone's throw distance. My wife said "fish on", just as a sailboat on a starboard tack crossed our stern about 25 yards away and snagged both of our lines. The boat then...

    Salmon in the Classroom

Good! I used to maintain several hundred aquariums in the salt water tropical fish business. It's not easy and my experience is old, but I know there's a lot to it, and I'm hoping for a big success for your program.

Launching a boat with a long pickup or motorhome.

Zonker, You have just hit on one of the things I've been thinking about! Pickup campers are expensive for what they give you, compared to trailers. The disadvantage is towing the boat behind it. I wouldn't even try to back THAT down the launch ramp. I guess you must play musical chairs...

Launching a boat with a long pickup or motorhome.

Good point. I've had my setup about 20 years. I don't think the Torklift was available then....I wish it was. My setup actually puts an upward load on the rear end of the hitch extension, so the hitch weight is counteracted. I don't remember the spec, but I know it's more than 500 lbs. I...

    Salmon in the Classroom

Are they giving you any help on how to keep these fish alive? Do you know anything about aquarium chemistry? Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates? What temperature do they need? How big is the tank? I'm fishing for the next week, so I won't be online, but if you don't know about these things, you...

Launching a boat with a long pickup or motorhome.

My camper hangs past the back of the truck 3ft 6inches. In order to put a hitch receiver on it, a supporting undercarriage had to be built. That makes it a 3 hour project to remove the camper. Not very attractive. Maybe next time, I'll buy a shorter camper.

Some good ideas here...thanks for the help, guys! Lucky23....I'll give you a call. Thanks to you, too!

Launching a boat with a long pickup or motorhome.

I can't see any part of the trailer or boat! Zero, Zip, Nada... the trailer gets a big angle on it before I see anything. Anybody know how much one of those video cameras costs?

Launching a boat with a long pickup or motorhome.

One thing I always have trouble with is launching my boat. I tow with a Ford f350 dually crew cab with an 11'6" camper on it. By itself, it takes a country mile to turn around...it's 20 ft. long and with the camper, it's 23 ft. My boat is invisible behind the camper...can't see it even in the...

    Plastics in disguise

You have my admiration. I know nothing about how to do this, and would probably have to take a course on it to do what you do.

    Any ideas for organizing wiring?

No, I don't...have never ice-fished. It might be fun, just never knew anyone that would show me the ropes. With my luck, I'd probably fall in...

    Any ideas for organizing wiring?

Yes, thank you! I've received a number of good ideas on this thread. I decided to wait until winter, when I don't fish for kokes, and will tear everything apart then. I've been buying parts for the conversion, too. It's quite a job...even on a smaller boat. Maybe even tougher than on a big...

    Downriggers.. What do you reccomend?

Most downrigger line is sold with 150 ft of line, though there are longer lengths available.

    anchoring boat with two anchors

Good luck! Using two anchors is not easy. It will take some practice. West Marine used to have a small book on the subject of anchoring. There's a lot to know.

    Squids

I think almost all the squids, or "hoochies" as most fishermen call them, are made in Asia. If the tackle manufacturers in the US are selling them, they are likely repackaging them.

A Dipsy Diver or Slide Diver Lite Bite. The Dipsy Magnum gets you the deepest. You might want to use a little heavier line for the large Dipsy...I don't know the test of your lead line.

Do you use Ball Trolls on your downrigger?

Hmmm...you may have your release on the Shuttle Hawk set too light...may need to tighten it up a bit. If you are running ball trolls off the downrigger weight, you should be running a much shorter setback off your release clip. Set it up so that the dodger or lure is a couple feet behind the...
