Is "Humminbird" a copy of Hummingbird fishfinders?

I fish with an Eagle FF/GPS combo and have been very pleased with it. Eagle and Lowrance are made by the same company and are very similar in technology and abilities. I also use the Navionics software for the GPS to show contours of the lakes I fish. Once I lock on to where the fish are, I...

Night security on the lake for boat and gear?

I am lucky and have a boat that I sleep on at all times, whether in the water or on shore. However, my brother's boat is much smaller. He locks everything he can in the truck at night or when he is away from it. He even keeps a lock on the tongue so no one can steal the entire boat. We...

What hook size and type do you use?

I agree completely with Digi-Troller. I use the same size and brand hooks because they work great and I don't want to spend the time to sharpen my hooks as often as cheaper ones.

    Oil vs. Gel?

I mostly use Pro Cure super gels because they stay on longer and are easy to apply. We can use corn in Colorado and have soaked it in oil in the past, but this year I was lazy and just used gels on the lures with no scent on the corn. Like Digi-Troller, we used gels almost exclusively this year...

    Kokanee fishing at Strawberry

I didn't fish there myself this year, but several of my brother's friends had a much better year this year at the Berry fishing for kokes than previous ones. They fish the Soldier Creek side as well.

Do you stop or troll when hooked up?

I fished a lot by myself this year at Flaming Gorge and would stop the motor to focus on the task at hand. It is hard to reel in a koke, net it and steer the boat at the same time by yourself tooexcited I used to stop it all the time, even when I was with someone because I was afraid to lose...

    Ice Fishing Techniques For Kokes

How big are the kokes you typically catch through the ice at Flaming Gorge?

Shaver Lake 9-5-08 to 9-7-08 KP Derby Fun!

Those are very interesting videos. Like Full Monte suggested, I imagine you could study your videos and learn a lot about kokes and their striking habits and the different scents they like or don't like. Do you use them very often?

    gorge report sept 5-6

Sounds like a great time. Glad to hear the fishing is still productive after seeing and hearing about more than a few frustrating reports.

    Rod Length

I have always liked Ugly Stik rods because I have never broken one. I have broke my fair share of rods and Ugly Stik has always held up and they are fairly inexpensive. If I keep throwing one or two overboard every year, it doesn't make sense to spend a lot of money on a rod that is going to...

    Colorado Kokanee???

I would suggest near Almont as well. Fishing with a fly rod is a lot of fun when the kokes start their run up the river.

    Rod Length

Anyone have a preference on the length of your downrigger rods? I lost two complete set-ups at Blue Mesa a couple of weeks ago and need to replace them. They were 7 ft Ugly Stik rods and I am thinking of replacing them with light action 8.5 to 9 ft rods. I want something a little more nimble...

    Fishfinder & mph

I can get up to about 8 mph before I start getting a lot of noise on mine. It will read sporatically, but I don't think it is very accurate. I think it depends on where the transducer is mounted in relation to your motor and the strength of your sonar signal.

    Gorge 8-22

It's just south of Squaw Hollow and you can see it from the boat ramp.

    When is it too much?

Kokaholic makes a good point. I don't know how many pink/red kokes you would want to keep because they never stop deteriorating once they start, even when frozen. Most guys I know won't keep them if they are even a little pink because the quality of meat is not as good. Long story short, I...

    cabellas black box?

I bought one a few years ago, but have never installed it. I check my downrigger lines for current a couple of times a year and seem to be in the range they recommend not to repel the fish. I have been tempted to install it so that I could monitor it more closely and keep it consistent...

    Causey? Ice fishing for kokes?

After seeing the KFF gathering at Strawberry being cancelled, some have posted about having it at Causey this winter. Not living in Utah, I don't know much about the lakes, other than the obvious ones and Scofield. My brother lives in West Haven and says that the lake has always produced small...

    Ririe Aug 7,8 & 9

The Sportsmans Warehouse where I live recently started carrying RMT products, which has been a great bonus for me. They are pretty limited in what they carry, for example, they only have about 5 different colors in the dodgers and squid. However, like everything else in the store, they are...

    Koke ?

I agree with Propnut69. These fish are the future for the kokanee at the Gorge and need to spawn to regenerate the population. They are getting too mushy anyway and the silvers taste better. Once these fish start to deteriorate, they do not stop even when you freeze them.
