    2014 Wickiup Fishing Reports

Fished with chukardave1 on Friday and put 58 in the boat. What an incredible day! Most fish were off the downriggers 25 feet down in the deeper water 40-55 feet. Best areas were from the confluence of channels to the middle of the lake. White blade spinners in orange and large white and...

    Crescent 6-20

Up date. Went again on 6-25. Same set-up and bait. Fish are slowly moving toward the boy scout camp. Typical summer pattern. Good morning bite for us, we seemed to be the hottest boat in the fleet. 15 on and 10 to the boat in just over an hour. One fish was almost 16". Weather was...

    Crescent 6-20

Made it out to Crescent for kokes for the 1st time this year. We managed 3 limits by 1pm. Hot set up was red wedding ring and home made red/yellow spinner. All fish caught with Gulp pink maggots. They turned their noses at all corn. Most of the action was off Contorta Point in 80-120...

    A Fisherman’s Story. I just wanted a few Kokanee.

Great story!! A true testament to your fishing skills to be able to land that beast. ............and I thought you could only catch 20 lb browns in Oregon.;)

Which of your tools has learned to walk.

For me its my wife when she knows I'm about to need an extra pair of hands to help tighten, hold, or wrench on something. Never fails either......laugh hyst

    Oregon Mackinaw

A few pics of macks from Oregon so far this year. Most fish were from Odell, one was from Crescent. Often we will split the day and fish for macks and kokanee. I figure my odds of success double if I can target 2 species instead of one.;)

    Minor Boat Modifications You've Made

1-A couple metal baskets for essential tools that you need all day: pliers, line clipper, knife, etc. 2- A leader keeper set-up. On the underside of one of my box seats I screwed some large head screws and long springs. You loop 1 end of the leader around a screw head and pull on the spring...

    Your position on Transom Savers

Another vote for the MY wedge here. On heavy duty aluminum boats the transom will not be in structural jeopardy. The transom-saver bars may actually be worse then doing nothing if you have power trim(hydraulics). When you are going down a bumpy road the boat will float on your bunks and...

    Cannon HS DR's

Interesting..........I've had a Cannon mag5hs and absolutely love it. Also have an older Cannon mini-mag electric on the other side. Its a minor technique change to hold the switch down for a second to stop upward motion. I koke and mack fish all day with frequent depth changes. I've had...

Do you set the drag on your downrigger?

I believe the positive ion output runs the entire length of the cable( I just verified this online) , so it would stop just short of the ball in your case.

Do you set the drag on your downrigger?

Right you are! The way I remember is turn toward the water to release down, turn toward the boat to tighten.

Do you set the drag on your downrigger?

Yes we are. As I stated in post #19 the Cannons do not have this issue. The star knob on all Cannons is the clutch adjustment. Its as simple to adjust as the star drag on a level wind reel. This seems to be one of the major drawbacks of the overall Scotty design. Add the pre-set positive ion...

Gulp maggots and Pautzke Fire Corn

I started using Pautzke Fire Corn last year and really love it. This year I started using the Gulk maggots and am having limited success. I would like you guy's reports on both products. I no longer bring the old white shoepeg corn anymore. I always ended up throwing more than 1/2 the can...

    Launch ramp antics

I've done 2 "dry" launches in the last 3 years. The 1st was at Crescent lake, Oregon. Its a long steep ramp and I always used to unhook the bow winch strap at the top of the ramp on my previous boats with carpeted bunks.. Well this was October with a little ice and the plastic bunks...
