    Proper care for your catch?

I bonk and bleed in the boat. Sometimes use the washdown pump hose to spray most of the scales off in the fish box. In to the cooler until return home. I do follow through with the scrub brush to get the scales and slime off when I get home then fillet them out.

Picked up a couple of rod alarms at the sportsmens show

Ohhh that hit home for me! I was busted this summer up there when my wife us up front steering from the console and I was "re-rigging" a rod. She apparently noticed I was not doing much rigging and announced - "Hey stalker boy you want to get the fish on the other rod!" Proof I'm old enough...

    blade size

When I first started I used larger blades because I figured bigger was better. Thought they would see and feel (blade vibration) more. After a few years I decided that was a very big spinner for such a little fish so I down sized. I've caught more fish more consistently in the past two years...

    Downrigger on a Crestline

Red Hook - I had my Cannon Mag 5's mounted on my Lund (similar to Crestline setup) a few years back. My gunnel had a piece of 1/2" marine plywood under it that I mounted straight through. If I remember correctly I believe the Cannon mounting instructions talked about how much thickness you...

    Fishing Line

I'm with DLM - I'm a P-line guy. I think there is 8 lb on my reels right now but not completely sure. If not it's 10 lb. I'm no line expert but it just seems to "behave" better than the standard Berkley that I used to run. I normally switch out line every other year or so and the price...

    Tackle do over

Funny I thought the same thing last year. I fish walleye in the Columbia River out here. I was tying up some worm harnesses (my go to walleye rig so far) and realized it's all the same stuff just bigger and different colors. It makes organizing the bead and blade boxes easier. Same stuff...

    Breakfast on the Boat

I still have never done the breakfast on the boat but that looks awesome. I would agree with DLM you would need to pick your day. But when you are on the lake "that day" and its just glass and three other boats around just trolling it would be great.

    Contest

They look fishy to me! 3" Grass craw would be deadly set up as a split shot rig and drug nice and slow over some rocky points on the Columbia River - piggy smallie guaranteed 4" Paddle tail shad - slide a 1/2 to 1 oz jig head on the puppy drift with the current along a shelf bouncing bottom...

    ego s2 slider net

Fully agree with DLM and would highly suggest this net. I bought the S2 29" to 60" slider with a medium clear rubber net. I have an offshore bracket on my boat and this size makes it a dream to reach behind the motors and scoop up the silver bullets. My wife goes fishing with me sometimes...

    What a weekend in Idaho

Beautiful buck! The little lady should be proud. Man I miss hunting and eating pheasant. Looks like a healthy fella as well. Congrats on the good days!

    Merwin Up Date -- 8-26--'11

I was up Saturday and it wasn't too bad. The area between Campers Hideaway and Speelyai in the middle of the lake was the worst but nothing too huge. We ended up with 8 varying sizes and stages of spawning kokes. Had twin 4 year olds on board and it kept them entertained for a few hours.

    Anyone been to Yale lately??

Thanks mudinchev! I was planning on falling back on your last report for starters if no one has been out with updates. I just want to keep the kids entertained as well. Looks like you did well with that. Thanks again

    Anyone been to Yale lately??

Last report I can find is mid July. The wife has some friends with 4 year old twins coming down this weekend and as much as I don't want to be out on a lake on Saturday that's about the only option. I normally fish Merwin but sounds like it is powering down a bit. I thought we might have...

    Merwin 2011

Very nice Kokecatcher! You've been doing very well up there. I appreciate the reports. My nephew is in town next week so I'm debating the "bigger but less fish at Merwin" or "smaller but more fish at Yale". By the way - what kind of boat do you run? That looks alot like my Hewescraft...

    Backflip tri-fold tonneau cover reviews?

Doing some research ahead of time for a soon to come purchase of a new Tundra. I've always had camper tops on my trucks but want to try a tonneau to avoid removing the top to haul stuff. From some basic research these appear pretty slick. Just wondering if any you gents or your friends have...

    American 10 Jun 11

Ahh you make me feel better for buying the two UV products this year. I was just thinking ---- I'm guessing this is one of those products that caught more fishermen than fish! Of course it would help if I remember to bring it along from time to time as well. I got some liquid spray on stuff...

    Lake Samish 2011

Well done dodging the liquid sunshine and making it out! I don't see many posts for Samish - my in-laws live up that way so it's nice to know I have some where to get away if needed. Does the lake produce kokes into the summer like most others?

    Skaha Kokanee Pictures

Nice looking kokes you all got up there! I really like the spawning phase one - great colors.

    6mm Beads

I think I followed SuperD's method last year. This year I downsized by one just because they seemed kind of big. Not sure if that was a good idea because the old way work - hope I didn't screw that up. Anyway my setup this year is 2-3-4-5-4-3-2

    Can't wait to get out!

Oh yeah and if you Northern boys are come down here and want to get out on Merwin or Yale I'm open for that as well.
