Matzou sickle vs. gama octopus hooks

I've been using the octopus sickle (red) They're good sharp hooks for the $$$. For my spinners, RGT's & smaller hootchies I use (2) #6. For larger hoochies or bigger spinners such any with dakota blades I use (2) #4. Nothing bigger than #6 or #4 red octopus sickle for me. Mark

This may be a dumb question but...

If I'm going any place for week I usualy make sure I have the following before I go, (1) my battery charger(2) electricty (3) my generator. I also have a four stoke and it is quiet and does not smell. I was just giving another suggestion to adding a kicker bracket or connection rods. Adding a...

This may be a dumb question but...

I had a 76 Fiberform tri hull when I first started out. My suggestion is mount a Minn Kota/auto pilot up front like I did. A 55lb thust did great for me. Measure what shaft length would be best and your speed and any control issue will go bye bye!! Who want's to smell and listen to gas motor...

Matzou sickle vs. gama octopus hooks

I switched to the Matzou sickle hooks a few years ago, #4 & #6. Gami's are good, I used them for years but I'm 100% sold on the sickle hook. Not to brag, OK a just little, here's how the sickle hook helped me just last season. I don't think I'll be switching anytime soon. LOVE THOSE HOOKS...

    setting up rigs

Welcome to the party Mowrus!!! When I first started targeting kokes I used snubbers just like MMM described. Then I started putting the snubber ahead of the dodger so the snubber would not hinder the action of the dodger/lure. Now day's all my old "surgical tubbing style" snubbers have been...

    Corn Scents

I really have no favorite since I'm not going to be eating it!!nananana But the kokes sometimes let me know so when I'm preparing for battle (done at least 2 days before) these are my go to scents: Anise + dyed pink (I uses pure anise oil to enhance it) Garlic/anise (I add crushed garlic to...

    Hoochies, Short or Long

dlm, The only place I've been able to get them is guns, fishin & other stuff in Vacaville Ca. I've got a buddy who lives there and picked some up for me. The have a web site and I'm sure they ship. Look'em up & good luck. Mark

    Hoochies, Short or Long

Yamasita/Gold Star came out with some "micro" hootchies last year. Very slendor same length as a RGT. They kicked some serious butt last year. Add one (1) 5mm glow bead but dont insert it. Just position it at the very base inside the tenicles. This will spead the tenicles out. Great action...

    Shuttlehawk ?

Dave, I've only used the ShuttleHawks when I had manual riggers, but I do know several people who use them on their Cannons with no issues, or at least have not mentioned it to me. The stop will kink your cables. That's one of the reasons why I just use stackers and now I know for a fact...

New lures at Koketackle for Utah ISE

I'm sure they will work for ice fishing but most use them trolling behind a dodger w/ a leader 3-4 times the dodger length. I like a short leader, 6-8 inches when going deeper than 30 ft. or just to be different. Product's look good Rich. You've come a long way since those first bugs you gave...

    Using red for Kokes?

Dave, Why are you surprised?? The last part of your post proves a lure does not need action work. It should also prove that kokes are not ball, boat, cable & line shy!! Been there, done that!! Back on topic, red will produce just like any other color. The fish will let you know when. Mark

    Using red for Kokes?

Let's make sure we are talking about "true" red. Many times anglers think they are using red when in fact it's more orange. As for a true red, I use it all season. The red RGT (naked) without any blade early in the season with a long leader, 24 inches behind a silver or watermelon Sep's sidekick...

One lesson or trick learned last kok season

Target structure!!! Found this out early last season at a local koke lake (UVR) when reports were non exsistant or complaints of no kokes. I found them on structure and that was early in the year. Trust your electronics. Not all fish holding on the bottom or structure are bass and macks...

Fish with Gary Series Spinner Bugs

Gary gave me a few of these to try this season at the ISE. They look good! It's also good to see that Carlo is using the Matzou sickle hooks. I switched to them a few years back and they have proven to be awesome hooks, especialy for kokes. Almost all my gear have the Matzou's on them. The #6...

    Describe your Ultimate Kokanee Boat

My ultimate kokanee boat would be at least 20 ft. w/ 32" sides (Duckworth preferred)with at least a 76" wide floor. A 150 Mercury Verado , 4 Cannon electric riggers, Minn Kota w/ IPilot, Lowrance HDS 10, VHF, good top & side curtains, wash down, lots of storage & loaded up with lots & lots &...

Congrats to JustTrollin - todays derby winner!

I'll use this Thread to make my first post here. Having known JT for some years now and being his partner at this event in the past, (15th place) in 2008, I'd like to congradulate JT and Damen on their win. You have been getting closer every year and this year you did it. Of all the events to...
