Which Shimano Calcutta should I use- 100B or 200B?

I use 50/51 size Calcuttas for Kokes.

    2011 boat projects?

I added radar and a weed removing grate. Those are both for Tuna, not so much Kokes.

    Leader material

I haven't found that to be the case and I've caught a lot of big fish, including Dorado, Tuna and Striped Marlin using Flouro. In Mexico we were using live bait bigger than the Kokes we catch around here!!

    Leader material

As others have mentioned I don't *think* they're leader shy.....but I still use 10# Flouro and will use 12 or 15 at Wallowa.

Recording every thing in your journal

I'm lazy...there I said it. So, I just post the results of my trips here and then I can go back and check whenever I need to. 101chromefish101

    Describe your Ultimate Kokanee Boat

The nice thing about trailerable diesel boats is that you can use off road diesel which is LESS expensive than REGULAR gasoline and you have about twice the range of a similar gas boat.

    Describe your Ultimate Kokanee Boat

2 of the boats on this thread are diesel IB's.

    DownRiggers and Propguards

Well...maybe nananana But seriously, I'll be fishing for Tuna this year and I'm really debating adding 15' outriggers....wouldn't that be a sight at Merwin!!!

    First timer looking for help

Until last Spring I had never fished for Kokanee or used downriggers. I spent all last winter reading this forum and a couple of books and I'm pleased to say that we caught limits our first trip out and were never skunked. You're on the right track. Have a great time at Wallowa.

    DownRiggers and Propguards

I don't have one and have never seen the need. That said, my boat is a bit "beamier" than many here so that may be part of why I don't see a reason to have one.

    setting up rigs

I use the Sep's releases which have the yellow offshore "clips". After losing 4 of the clips to poorly crimped cables I replaced all the cables with some 100# mono (tuna leader) and have had no more problems. And I don't use snubbers, either.

    Describe your Ultimate Kokanee Boat

No! But it pales in comparison to offshore boats. I just read a test of a 70' Sportfishng boat. It holds over 2000 gallons of diesel. Weight is around 116,000 lbs. It will go over 40 MPH and it burns 252 GALLONS PER HOUR AT THAT SPEED. Scary!!

One lesson or trick learned last kok season

+2 I never use corn, only Gulp maggots.

    Describe your Ultimate Kokanee Boat

Thank you very much! It is, of course, my ultimate kokanee boat....and so much more. If I was buying a boat JUST for Kokes it would probably be a bit smaller.

    On selecting a tow vehicle

To answer the OP's Q...I think you'll want more rig than the Suburu. Now, to go off topic, slightly, We've had several Ford Diesels since 1999. The last two were 6L and we had problems with both. Traded the last one for a Duramax 3500, it's an 07, and it's been great.

Does a boat have to have a Coast Guard plate?

I believe that the USCG requires the manufacturer to install the plate so the consumer knows the boats capacity. There is no problem if the plate is missing, after the boat has been delivered to the first purchaser. If it's missing just use some common sense....8 adults in a 16' boat is...

Best line for bait casting reel

I run 6# for Kokes on Shimano Calcutta 50-51s. I can't see the need for more unless you were fishing Wallowa, and even then I'll stay with 6#. That said, I also use 8# for Steelhead so I do like light tackle.

    Downrigger weight selection

    My boat is 24' with a 9' beam and I run 4 Scotty 1106's with 60" booms. I have 4 and still have tangles. I wouldn't even try 5. I run all 10# weights.

    Cannon Mini Mag DR Manual?

SuperD, My Scotty 1106's are 30a.
