    Strawberry Landmark Question

Thanks for the map. I was thinking that Sage Hen was over by the Soldier Creek side. We will be spending some time at Strawberry and Starvation in a week. I want to target Kokanee while fishing Strawberry and I see reports that the area around Sage Hen has been producing.

    Newbie tips for the Pig

Try vertical jigging with buzz bombs. You could get some lead line and troll dodgers and squids. Get down to about 40' deep either way.

    Strawberry Landmark Question

Where is the area called Sage Hen located on Strawberry?

If you could only have one scent.

Last summer, I mixed 4 different Pro Cure scents together. All four bottles were less than 1/4 full. If I remember correctly, they were Corn, Carp Spit, Kokanee Special and one that I don't remember. I had some great days at the Gorge using that blend.

    Kokanee on the Utah Side

We spent several days fishing around Jarvie's Bay. The fishing was good but the fish only averaged about 17" long. We used squids and spinners behind Dodgers that Kelly painted for us. We caught fish equally on all rigs. I was happily surprised by the small amount of other boats on the water...

    Causey

After a couple of years of not fishing at Causey, my son and I tried it. We went in pursuit of Kokanee. Vertical jigging was the method used. My son did a lot better than I did. He caught several along with some Bows and even a nice Cutthroat. I only caught one but it was a nice 16" Kokanee. I...

    lone boat

Sounds like a great day at the Pig. Good to see that you were able to hook them. When we were there a few weeks ago. I had a hard time keeping them hooked. We lost a lot more than we boated. I like the suggestion that Petty had about using smaller hooks. I will try that on my next trip to...

    Strawberry Trip

After catching some guppies at Porcupine a few weeks ago, I decided to give Strawberry a try this week. My son Korey and I launched from the SC Marina and headed West. We found a lot of active Cutthroat and a few Rainbow before finally dialing in on the Kokanee. It was nice to catch some Kokes...

Shasta Tackle Shuttle Hawk Downrigger Release

I use them. The release isn't the best but when adjusted correctly, they work OK. They are very difficult to get set just right. By this is mean it will release on a bite but it stays locked in while you are lowering the line down. Most people I know have changed theirs out to their favorite...

Does a boat have to have a Coast Guard plate?

When my son asked this about his boat, he was told that the plate is required. He can't get one from the builder so he was told that there is a formula that you use to get the info. If you have that info with the boat you will normally be ok. There is always a rish though. I told him to make his...

    Five kokanee lakes in utah

There are still a few Kokanee in East Canyon. I know someone that caught one up there about 3 weeks ago. I wish that the Kokanee would come back there but then I don't know how much trolling I want to do with all the skiers and jet boats that buzz you there.

Hello & Best Boat Size for Porcupine & Causey

I fished Porcupine yesterday. [Friday] Launched at the upper ramp and it was not a fun launch. The water is now too low for safe launching. As the boat and trailer entered into the water, the trailer dropped deep into the water, real fast and the transom actually was under water briefly. When...

    porcupine genetics

I was there last Saturday. The upper ramp was good then. The water looked to be down about 12' from high water mark then. I also agree that we need to thin out the Kokanee in Porcupine. I'm sure the DWR agrees with the 12 Kokanee limit.

    Porcupine Report

No trout this trip. I was using Kokanee tackle so I'm not surprised that I didn't catch any trout. The wind picked up at about 10:00am on both days and that kept me from fishing later in the day. I had planned to try jigging for trout in the afternoons but that never happened.

    Porcupine Report

It's been a while sence I have been to Porcupine. I decided to do a solo trip there over the long weekend. I arrived there at about 7:30pm on Thursday evening and set up camp. The upper ramp is in great shape and I launched the boat at 6:30pm Friday morning. The fishing was on from the first...

    The pig 5/29

Yes, we had a great day on the Pig. One thing that Kelly forgot to mention was that he lowered his downrigger to about 30' to find the Brown. He didn't even tell me until after we boated the brute. After that the storm clouds showed up and we decided to head back home. I can't wait to get back...

    porqupine 05-25

Dubob, My son and I will be at the Pig in the morning. I hope you find someone to go with you. Have you posted your offer on BFT yet? Not sure what time we will be up there but we will watch for you. I hope we can find some active Kokanee. If not, the Trout will just have to keep up busy, Dale.

    Second Rod Stamp...

Utah has offered a second pole permitfor warm water fishing for years. If there were trout in the water, you coundn't use the permit. Only in the past couple years has the 2 pole permit been a general waters permit.
