We've been practicing our fish size enhancement in pix.( Just can't let flyfishermen have all the fun of making a 2 pounder look twice as big)laugh hyst.Seadog I just wish I lived as close to...

    Nantahala 2012 #2

Went to Nantahala last weekend With my son-in law Carter. Met rgarbar at the landing for a head drop and some info on recent fishing. The fishing started out slow but picked up at midday. We finished with 13 kokes and a walleye. Carter caught his first walleye ,first koke ,and first limit of kokes.

    Nice Trio Of Kokes!

Hey Doc,Rockmont is nice, and there are some good largemouth in the lakes . We were getting kokes 55-65,they weren't spread out so we would work the ones we saw pretty hard. Saw all but one or two on the finder before they hit. It was real tough late last summer on the one trip I made in Aug...

    UV spray

We're having a hot summer here in WNC and the bite has been off. I've been using some UV/glo lures from Kokanee Creek Tackle and have gotten hits that weren't coming on "tried and true lures" on tough days. I finally got some UV spray to coat gear I have without it. The spray reflects under the...

    Leader length for lead core

I don't fish leadcore much now ,but we've caught lots of fish on 7'-8' leaders.I tie a small barrel swivel to the leadcore then fluorocarbon leader to the other side.101chromefish101 TM

Using lead line and a downrigger

I use a stack release with a spring clip that hooks on the cable.Normally I stack 10'-30' above the ball release, depending on how deep I'm fishing.Get a little spread between your stacked rods. I set my shallow rod so the line pulls straight up (hopefully)and the deep line pulls off to the side...

    Last night at WH!

Hey Ron,I've never had great luck night fishing ,but I haven 't put lots of effort into it. Down at Jocassee lots of trout are caught at night. It is deeper than Nantahala, folks tie off to the intake structure(may not be legal now?) or tie off to the bank, back out into deep water, then anchor in...

Using lead line and a downrigger

Hey BL,I started deep trolling from a 12' aluminum with an ancient 5.5 hp Johnson. It had 2 short arm manual riviera riggers mounted on the drivers bench out each side. We also ran leadcore out of both sides about the middle of the boat.It worked pretty good, just always had to watch the leadcore...

    Last night at WH!

Hey Seadog ,You pronounce Nantahala just like it's spelled, although it might sound strange with your funny Northeast accent.nananana As far as bite patterns I think normal is a pretty consistent bite through the summer. Fish getting bigger and deeper as time goes on.Finding kokes and being...

    Wd 40

On a lighter note on Kokanee nation Vance Staplin told Gen Zog that pancake syrup was an effective scent. I tried scenting some shoepeg last week with Eggo syrup ,but didn't get a lot of action.May not have put enough in my corn.Plus it's great on pancakes, etc, unlike the other two (not that...

I've read preparation H is a good fish attractant.I think they said the original had fish oil in it. But fish have fish oil in them.101smily101 Just curious if the fish are drawn to the sight of the tube, swim by ,roll over and wait for the soothing application?101no101

    Fly Caught Fish are Better??

Did you ever notice how fly fishermen get those great pix of huge trout, etc. Obviously nice fish seem to gain weight and length when they get their after battle picture taken.Either those dudes have massive hands or are small people. These are pix of the same nice 15" koke.

    First 2012 koke trip!

Oh Yeah back in the Kokes!!!! The weather went from blistering hot to rain to thunderstorms(one of which ran us off the lake ) The bite was slow but we ended up with a 5" rockbass,9 kokes 14"-17.5",and two kokes that shook off just beyond the net. Our first one came on a Kokanee Creek Pink...
