    First time fishing Flaming Gorge

Those walleye grow super slow up there. A 24" walleye might be 10+ years old. When the lakes were first being fished, people regularly hauled coolers of fish home, and the fishing quickly went downhill. Now most of the lakes up there have very restrictive limits--you can eat all the fish you...

    Lights out today!

looks like pond out there! Got to get down to the Gorge. I was on Fontenelle yesterday, it did not look like that. Cold, gray and stormy. Had a limit of 6, 2+ pound Kokes in 2 hours though!!!! The smoker is going to get some work tomorrow.....

    headed out, feelin corny

Not sure about comparisons to other baits or scents, but I know they do like corn! I am pretty new to kokanee fishing, and seem to get lots of hits or quick hook ups that do not stay hooked (another topic for discussion). I could immediately tell which lures had lost their corn kernel--the...

    headed out, feelin corny

Corn is legal in Wyoming. They tried to change the regs last year, but it was a statute that needed approval in the legislature before the change was official (or something like that). The whole corn prohibition was pretty stupid, now if you are allowed to use bait on any water, you can use...

    Ice Fishing for Kokanee

This topic has been discussed on the ice Shanty forums, and the popular opinion seems to be no.... Not sure why this is the case, since they are caught through the ice at other lakes. Maybe those that have done well keep their lips sealed?

    Fish Finder Recommendations

The high end saltwater and commercial units all use the chirp technology now, and it is making its way to the lower priced units. I would bet that in a few years it will be the standard for most fish finders.....

    Corn?

I don't know anything about Utah regulations applying to Wyoming. All I know is that corn is no longer illegal to use as bait in Wyoming as of January 1, and there is no reference to corn in the special regulation section dealing with the Gorge. If you are that concerned, I would call the...

    Corn?

Corn is no longer illegal in Wyoming. There never really was any biological reason for the ban, and you will not see any reference to corn in the 2014-2015 regulations for Wyoming....

High mercury levels in fish at the gorge

Mercury is usually not naturally occurring at high concentrations in fresh water unless there is some unique geology. All other sources are from pollution. MOST bodies of water do not have enough mercury to result in an advisory.....

    Is it the ling?

Who is saying that they are going to study anything? Kill all the burbot you can! Just leave the blame game to the bucket stockers that started this mess.....

    Is it the ling?

Really? I think maybe you should think before you start attacking people without getting all the facts. I know Rob, and he is a down to earth, no BS kind guy. He did his MS thesis on kokanee in Flaming Gorge, but it was back in the early 1990's, so obviously the fishery has changed since...

Thanks guys, Where can you get a good map, does anyone in RS or GR sell the fishin' maps? Also, do you ever jig once you locate the schools?

    First time at FG

Hello everyone: I have fished the Gorge from the shore, but have never taken my boat down there. I live in Pinedale, and was thinking of heading down sometime in the next few weeks to target kokanee. I have downriggers. I was hoping for some hints as to where the best place to launch and...
