do any of you check voltage off downriggers?

MrMike, None taken. I'm not the best Kok fisher but do at times hold my own. When i fished cable i had a black box and believe it did, if nothing else, reduce the impact of too much juice going down the cable. this was a significant issue with my glass boat. I just have so many fewer issues...

do any of you check voltage off downriggers?

Super D is right. Checking the voltage is very easy. My advice (for what it is worth) is unless you are using a black box to tune the voltage, scuttle the cable and go to braid. it is strong, doesn't kink and virtually eliminates cable sing. I have a very interesting way of attaching the...

What Rods Are We Using For Koknee?

I do all my salmon trolling Canadian style, Islander knuckle busters and softer rods. So I thought why not for Koks? I have found the Reddington 7'6" 4 wt. fly rods to be perfect accompanied by a 8wt fly reel loaded with lots of backing and 100' of 8# mono. Cabelas has a very serviceable reel...

    in line flasher

Something I have thought of but never tried is to drill a series of small holes in one wing and attach the hoochie to a hole that gives the desired action at any given leader length. The hoochie rigs we use are small enough that they shouldn't vary the spin of the in line flasher much...

    Mistake watching football?

Super D, You sir are a good sport and the spinner looks great. Is the silver center piece separate or does it come with the beads? I am assuming separate? I have had good luck using cut crystal beads in silver and clear in the center of some of my spinners. Kokanee Toni, your "winner"...

    Mistake watching football?

Hmmmm.....may be a potential theme developing. Can I suggest Steel Blue and Electric Green? They are good looking anyway, especially the black bracelet bobble in the middle of the black one. May only attract the hens. Good Luck and "Go Hawks" K

    electric downriggers

I've fished with the Cannons on friends boats. Like my Scotty's much better. With that said, they are what I am used to. One thing to consider is that Scotty's are guaranteed for as long as you own them. Problems are repaired at no charge if you go to an authorized dealer/repair shop. In my...

Possible bad news for Lake Stevens kokanee

Thank you Smalma, Red and redadams for your insightful comments. The treatment for this year was conducted last Tuesday. I was on the lake as it happened. Fishing was OK that day as long as you could stay away from the plume trail from the application vessels. I have fished once since the...

Possible bad news for Lake Stevens kokanee

It appears a done deal that the City of Lake Stevens plans to remove the aerator and treat the lake with alum (aluminum sulfate) to suppress high phosphate levels. Evidently the alum bonds to the phosphate and falls to the lake bottom forming a thin crust. Seems like this could have some impact...

    Wiggle Hoochie Question

An old fly fisher trick is to put a large metallic sequin in front of their fly. It might just work with the mini micro hoochies? I'm going to give it a try and I'll let you know. K

    Trolling with a fly rod

Rrogers... I use Reddington Crosswater 4 weights. They are 7 1/2 feet long which is perfect in my opinion. You will find them in cabelas occasionally on sale for $65. They are quite flexible and will arc almost to the water when loaded tight against the down rigger release. I have flat lined...

    Trolling with a fly rod

You will love it. The only way to go in my opinion. My kids and guests all fish that way on my boat and won't go back......it's the best. Just remember to let go of the handle! Have fun ..... K

    Slowing down

Have you tried deploying the drift sock off the bow so that it is under the center of your boat? It should give you a bit more control. K

    GPS antenna

I'm trying to find a GPS antenna for my older lowrance LCD x15mt. Thought I would post and see if anybody may have upgraded and have one they would like to sell. K

    Silver Horde Hoochies

They work well for all/most salmon for sure. Don't know why they wouldn't work for koks k

    Splitting Hagens order?

They will give first time buyers free samples of some of the items, at least this was the case with my first order. I recommend you call and place your order and see how they handle your lower volume request. K

    Silly just for fun question

I had a Lund SSV14 and put a 30 hp Yami 4 stroke on it. It would top out (loaded with gear) at 32 mph on the gps. A two stroke will most likely top that. I wouldn't plan on using it for trolling however unless marlin are the target species. k k

    Cleaning Kokes

For me there is only one way regardless of how you will prepare them for consumption.....and this goes for all my salmonids. Bonk, bleed, gut, gill and on ice in no more than 5 minutes. We owe it to the fish to ensure they are cared for properly. It never ceases to shock me when I see fish in...

    swapping out hooks

Ditto on the sickle hooks. If you want the hook back farther add a small barrel swivel to the split ring and then close the open hook eye to the other end of the swivel. This will also give the fish less leverage by allowing the hook to rotate. K

Sorry about that... Grand baby on my knee.....I have fished in the dark before with glow gear and it dint disappoint today. I made up some small stuff as you recommended and wammmmm. I ended up with a limit at 7. All 13.5 to 16.25 and fatties as you said. Have these guys been hiding or have...
