How do you mount a downrigger on a small aluminum boat?

When I was fishing out of a 16 foot aluminum jon boat I used a clamp on mount for my downriggers. The clamp I used had two clamps (as opposed to Cannon's one clamp). It was made by TiteLok, and cost like 45 dollars. Now, even though it worked great for me, I wouldnt suggest it with a 60"...

About keeping rust off your tackle

I always store my tackle inside, and always open every box. They are all stacked, open, in the house right now. Also, like has been said, dont put your tackle away wet. Doing these things has pretty much eliminated all rust problems for me.

On Shuttle Hawks with Gary Miralles

Shuttle hawks do fall off 150 pound cable once they get worn a bit. And those releases do trash your line rather quickly. Those are the facts that I discovered through a few years of use. Still, the Shuttle is a good tool if you have a manual. If you dont, then just stack. Heres another...

    Changing Setups...

We definately change things up as conditions change, if needed. There have been many days when it gets real cloudy that we'll go back to our earlier morning set ups. The glows, or higher water column colors can really turn back on. We also, like most here, love a little wind. Glass water is...

    Downrigger mounts

Hey Jason, I cant recall if you've ever seen my boat, but its a fiberglass ski boat as well. My gunnels are only 4" wide, so I had the same problem. What I ended up doing was going with a gimball mount. Look them up on cabelas to get an idea. They are made by cannon, but cabelas has one too...

    HELP: Downrig Stacker Question

Petty pretty much summed up my setup. I run the top line further back than the bottom too. This may seem counter intuitive, but my reasoning is this. Often, despite our best efforts, the fish that hits our deep rig comes up into our top line. If your top line is closer to the weight, the...

    Kicker Motor Steering

I've got the Panther 100. Been nothing but great for us. It is one more item to drain your battery, so keep that in mind. I also installed an onboard charger to combat this. I run my sonar, gps, remote steer, and three DTIV's on one battery. It will troll about 2 days without a charge, but...

    Kicker Motor Steering

I use an 8hp mercury on my 18.5 foot fiberglass boat. It pushes it along great, and also trolls down to .5mph if I want it to. I got the Panther unit last year and have loved it. I can now steer with just the remote. I can run downriggers, fight fish, unhook fish... do anything with that...

    Lead core or riggers?

Hey, another vote for downriggers. The better we've become at using downriggers, the less our lead core setups got used. For the last couple years they have just sat on the garage shelf. I can't imagine they'll be coming off that shelf this year either. Early in the season we do use mono...

    Kokanee Rods

Last year we outfitted the boat with 6 new koke combo's. We went with lamiglas kokanee special rods, and shimano cardiff reels. Love them! I still cant believe how sweet these set ups are. Cant imagine koke fishing without them now. But, I am now jonesing for one of the JJ rods! It never...

    Dodgers , What do like?

We mostly use Rocky Mt Tackle dodgers, and Crystal Basin wild things. We almost always start out the day with some glow dodgers, move to UV as the sun first gets up, and then move to the hyper plaids and other reflective tape dodgers when the sun is at full strength. Just get a good selection...

    Kabin Fever Strikes Again!

Good looking setups! I used to prepare rigs during the winter too... but, then I took up ice fishing. Between that and duck hunting I just haven't put any time into my koke trolling gear this winter. Its nice to not get cabin fever ever, but come April I will not be nearly as prepared as I...

    Ice Status at the gorge

Ryno, on BFT, reports that the Firehole area has around 4 inches. He fished it the other day. Wont be long now. We'll wait until the ice reaches further down lake, but I imagine we'll be able to head up sometime after the new year.

    Hello fellow Kokaholics

You know what... I like the new ones. For early season kokes (when the mouths are real soft) its a huge advantage to have the lure slide up out of the way. That leverage can kill you at times! Not as much of an issue later in the season when the mouths firm up, but that plug could easily be...

    Hello fellow Kokaholics

Pretty good influx of California talent here. Welcome guys! GVF... I've seen some of your stuff on kokaneemart. I like the looks of your Lil Draggins. Kind of a mini J Plug. How small are they? I may have to add the Red Head, and Pink Hot Tale to my arsenal. Also, I love the single Siwash...
