Man, 69, missing after his boat capsizes in Flaming Gorge

That lake can be a monster. I had a wave come over my boat, which is an 18 Crestliner, a couple of years ago. There was 6 inches of water in the boat, coolers floating around, it was scary. I was actually going too slow and got caught in between 4 foot swells. Why was I out there ?? Because I...

Last Gorge trip of the year

I didn't think that was skunk cliffs. I have the Ray Johnson map, and I thought that's where they were. Someone told me where I was fishing was skunk cliffs, so I just went with it.

Last Gorge trip of the year

I was running it the normal 10 inches like I would on a smaller dodger. It looked ridiculous but hey it worked ! I also used my stiffer rods, not my Vance's spiral wraps. There is a lot of drag and tension when using those flashers. I think the bigger flasher just pisses them or they are...

Last Gorge trip of the year

My wife and I hit the Gorge for the last time on Sunday morning. This was my third trip down, and it has been a great year for big fish. Every trip has produced some 20" plus fish. We started fishing around 6:30, and caught one on the first rod set before I could get anything else down. We...

    Awesome Flaming Gorge Trip

Nice report, I can't wait to get back down there. My favorite lake in all of Wyoming. You rarely ever hear guys say the fishing sucked there !

Update from first weekend of August

It was an amazing weekend...no wind !!! The fishing was so good I even caught myself ! How come the fish shake the hooks so easy and I bury it in my pinky. Here are more pics...

    Electric Downriggers or Divers (Idaho)

You can use downriggers in shallow water. I troll Henry's lake with the balls down 3 feet. It telegraphs strikes better than flat lining and I think it's a better hook set. Buy them now !!!

    map of the gorge?

You don't need a map to find Kokanee. Just find a bunch of boats and run your gear thru the middle of the pack like everyone else does !! There is a really good map available in the marinas or tackle shops down there. Someone on the board will tell you .

What is the Sociably Acceptable Size Of Laker Pups to keep?

Once a lake trout reach that 5lb, 24" size, they more than likely have switched from a plankton to a fish diet. They will now put on weight and grow faster. I would try to stay in the 15 to 20 inch range. Plankton eaters... The lake is full of those fish.

    Flaming Gorge Catch Report- 6-15-14

We did well fishing closer to shore on the south part of big bend. We caught fish in 50 feet as well as 100. They seemed to like the humps and higher spots

    Where's the Most Wind?

I finally made it down there also. We fished Saturday morning and Sunday morning. The wind on Saurday afternoon was ridiculous ! West at 25 with gusts to 38. We battled on Saturday and put 17 in the net, kokes and rainbows, all healthy, nice fish. Pink was the color and fish were caught from 15...

    Where's the Most Wind?

If you want to avoid the wind at the Gorge, you should try another lake !! The key is to get out early, the wind usually blows from 11 ish until the next morning. Afternoons are tough to fish. You may think you can tuck into a cove or bay and get away from it, but you can't....it's just part of...

    FG May 27- June 1st

I have great success for macs using a little bigger dodger than you would for Kokanee, and use a 2.5 inch squid in white or glow. Tip the hook with a white 3 inch gulp minnow and run that a foot off the bottom. You will catch lots of mini-macs with that set up.

Now that koke season has closed on the gorge

I only made it down 3 times and caught some nice fish. For those of us that don't get there that often, this website provides some great information. Some members are very helpful...Robb...willing to share spots and techniques. Flaming gorge is by far my favorite lake to fish, and I can't wait...

    Late Gorge trip report

Here are a couple of things to try, 1. Get on the water early, the main part of the bite is from before sunrise until about 9:30. Once the sun is brite, the fish seem to shut off 2. Troll around 1.5 to 1.8. Troll in S turns..it gives your lures more action by speeding and slowing. I also speed...
