2024 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Fishing Report

A little bigger I spoke with the new ID F & G biologist who stated fertilizing for maximizing plankton size is ongoing. That said test trolls and netting last year confirmed not as many kokes as last year, but still too many. He expects this years to be bigger than last year, but not by a lot...

2023 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Fishing Report

Limits on Monday of small 8-9" kokanee. Reservoir full of water and kokes throughout system. Too many kokes = too little plankton = not enough feed = tiny adult kokes. Still a beautiful day on the water and they're delicious small, too.

Thx! When they're that small it can be hard to detect bites and I've drug em' around not knowing they're on. Kokes prefer water temps of around 54F, but will move into warmer water to feed on plankton, then back down to cooler water. I use this site to help me know what depth to initially...

2022 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Fishing Report

Hey thx for posting your Koke fishing experience. A friend caught 27 but didn't say where or how deep. They're dinky this year. Maybe you didn't mark them due to being so small/sonar sensitivity, they're near the surface, or further up the lake due to the Dam spilling big time...

Scattered schools from dam to above Freeman. We marked them mostly 14-18'. Very small and soft this year meaning small hooks and plenty of stretch. Can be difficult to detect hits/hook ups even with sensitive rods. Fried up tasty though!

Farther Up We found scattered fish from Elk Creek up a few miles, then schools farther up. They're moving up pre spawn. Most fish are at 30'. Snooped around til we found mostly 11"+ fish. Lots of 9" fish. Limits no problem. Next years fish are very small. Hope there's adequate feed for them to...

A few bigger than average Thx eschmit04! We boated a few to 12" in mid June, but like you had a hard time finding many of them.

Any Reports? Just checking to see if anyone is doing well with the early drawdown, and how far up the reservoir they've moved? Thx!

2021 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Fishing Report

Your post prompted checking water temps near the dam which have narrowed a lot in the last week or two with the reservoir filling rapidly. They should be living at about 25' this week and coming up in warmer temps occasionally to feed. The big change in outflow could have moved or scattered...

Nice! Using a carpenters tape (as opposed to a fishermen tape) how long are they? Any pics?

Thx for the good and not so good news:) Do you think the fertilizing may help substantially with the size of the super abundant Kokanee this year! Any idea as to the length of the fry last summer? Thx again!

Winter Kokes Check out this post: https://www.kokaneefishingforum.com/fishing-forums/showthread.php?8617-Winter-Time-Kokanee My experience and understanding is the fish are down around the dam til dam discharge ramps up enough to cause current then many fish instinctively move upstream...

2020 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Fishing Report

Just my two bits worth: According to today's Dworshak water temps the kokes will be living around 26' deep as it's about 54F at that depth (near the dam). They will leave that depth temporarily to feed on plankton, (usually shallower). We have a 15HP Evinrude and fish with 4-6 oz of lead right...

Trolling speeds To check if troll is too fast see if inside rods, on moderate or gradual turns, produce strikes. Experiment and you'll get it dialed in! What size are they this spring?....with a genuine carpenters tape please lol

This might save a few shekels http://www.nwd-wc.usace.army.mil/ftppub/water_quality/tempstrings/DWR_S1_2019_07.html but I don't know how accurate it would hold farther up

    2019 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Report

Thx for the good info. I hear that Kokes like to live in water temps around 54F, then warmer temps to feed on plankton, then back to the lower 50's. If that's the case they ought to be around 50-60' at Dworshak now. Seems to square with your results, right?

Bout that time for the pre spawn migration up the reservoir. Anyone care to divulge their luck the last couple days or how far up you gotta go to get into good numbers now?
