    Fishing Fontenelle 6-03-2021

Fished Sunday, April 24 2022. Landed 9 Kokanee. Lost at least that many! 15-19”, and very fat. Lots of rainbows with a a few browns and cutthroat, some toads. Water was 44 in the morning 47 in the afternoon. All fish in the top15’ of water…

2019 Blue Mesa Kokanee Fishing Report

That is very cool! I live in WY and have never fished Blue Mesa, but I fish Fontenelle reservoir for Kokanee a lot. It is a weird reservoir, in that the Kokanee never stratify at depth. They are almost always near the surface, even when the the water is 70 degrees on the surface. Because the...

Trying to liven the place up!

I am with you Trent, the boards (except ice shanty) seem to get way less traffic these days. I blame facebook;) I would have reported that I have been killing the Kokes at Fontenelle for 5 weeks or so, lots of 2.5-3.5 pound fish (with a 6 fish limit)...but nobody looks at the page anyways.....

    Lucerne 6/20-23

It is pretty well established that Kokes are poor candidates for C&R, especially when the surface temperatures are warm. Add in handling the fish to measure for a tournament/derby, sounds like a bad idea. Here's an old link from the G&F: https://www.facebook.com/WyoGFD/posts/622146277809284

When do the kokes turn red?

There is no doubt that the quality of the flesh declines the closer the fish are to spawning, especially considering that kokanee flesh is on the tender side in the best of conditions. And there is no comparison between an ocean caught, bright sockeye and a red colored river caught fish...

    Beginner boater lol

You will be amazed how after you use a fish finder for a while, you will wonder how you ever fished without one! I happen to have a very nice Lowrance HDS 5 Gen 2 sitting in my garage;) This is a pretty good unit, with powerful sonar, color screen and full GPS/chartplotter navigation. $300...

    prediv=ctions for the season

The snowpack above Fontenelle is now 183% of average, and will likely exceed 200% by the end of the next week of cold, wet weather in the forecast. I am by no means an expert KOK angler, but have found stained water to be good for Kokes. How dirty was Fontenelle near the dam, was it fishable?

    Gorge Ling Trip

I have never fished for Burbot in the Gorge, but I know people who slay them on the Gorge until ice up. I have caught them in the Big Sandy and Boysen, they taste great. One key I have found is that you do not want to cut into their guts, they stink! Just cut around they head and grab some...

    Smoked - Canned Kokanee

Too bad you had a bad interaction. Game wardens are just like the rest of us: most are alright, some are Dicks ;)

    Smoked - Canned Kokanee

Jigging is so much more fun than trolling! Just Putt around with your trolling motor (or better yet electric trolling motor with I-Pilot) and mark fish with your electronics. A 1/2-3/4 oz jig with a curly tail or tube jig, and a small piece of sucker meat dropped down to the marked fish and...

    smallies

I used to fish the area on the east side of FG near the Utah Border in early/mid June. It was great fishing for smallmouth on flies off the shore, their beds were pretty easy to spot and the fish were usually pretty aggressive. However, smallies have been pretty much eliminated from the...

    Fontenelle expansion

They cannot drain the reservoir down below the area annually because of the dam face is not lined all the way down with rip-rap. Repeated exposure could cause damage, that is why they want to draw it way down, then line it with rip-rap. G&F is opposed, but the brilliant minds of Wyoming...

    First trip of the year...

That video was very informative! I always assumed that when you get multiple "pecks" while trolling, it is the same fish coming back and biting at the lure. To see a whole bunch of fish following and taking turns was quite surprising to me.....

    Fontenelle

Pretty sure there is water, but I just drive down from Pinedale, I have never camped there. I have not fished Fontenelle since early June. It may still be fishing OK for Kokanee, it is usually an early summer kind of thing, but it has been cool and showery lately so who knows? Also, the...

nice report The smallmouth are pretty much gone from WY, thanks to the burbot. The WGFD and BASS just transplanted a bunch of bass from UT to try and help them out....

    Fontenelle

No one posts here, but I have been absolutely killing the Kokes since the end of April! Long lining spinner/squid combos for easy limits of 14"-18" fish before 9 am. Caught one last Sunday that was 19" and 3 pounds 10 ounces after bleeding out!
