2017 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Fishing Report

Great Kokanee Fishing 6/29/17 Barb and I arrived at Bruces Eddy at 5:15AM, launched the boat then headed to Canyon Creek, water was flat, and was glad to see very little debris, beautiful morning with big white clouds. Pulled the boat off plane when we got to Canyon Creek, Rigged three rods for...

2017 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Fishing Report

Great Kokanee Fishing. Barb and I finally made it to Dworshak Monday. The highway from Gibb's Eddy to Orofino has a lot of road construction going on, at one point we were held up about 45 minutes, took much more time than usual, but is going to be a very good highway when they are done. We...

2017 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Fishing Report

Thanks for the report John, really sounds encouraging, Barb & I may give it a try this week. I sure like catching them using downriggers, and ultralite gear, but for numbers it seems like we catch about three times as many with weights, and a gob of spinners. How was water clarity, and debris in...

Go to www.dworshak.org, when the page comes up look for "Water Levels and click on it, this will show the current and past water levels. By the end of July the water level will probably be down 25'-30' or more, the best time for the boat in campsites is near full pool, the shoreline will be wet...

stevec, I'm glad I read your comment, and will try to help. Launch at Big Eddy, then start fishing Merrys Bay, fish the shoreline on the far side. If that is not productive go to Indian Creek, and Canyon Creek, which is always good Kokanee fishing. Let your lines out exactly 60', start with a...

Good fishing Rick, maybe those are next years fish, if so they will be quite a bit bigger next year. The last time we were out we fished Canyon Creek, caught 20 in about three hours, they were all around 9", also caught several very small shakers. Sure a great place to fish.

Barb and I fished Tuesday morning, nice weather, beautiful day with a lot of clouds and not too hot. We launched the boat at Bruces Eddy and headed to Canyon Creek, about a hundred yards out the fishfinder was really lit up with Kokanee, but we stuck with our plan and continued on our way. We...

John I hope someone says they had better luck than you did. We have put the ski's away for the season and will concentrate on fishing. Had planned on going to Dworshak tomorrow, but the forecast calls for 80 percent rain, and it's raining here in Hell's Canyon now, so we will wait for better...

Thanks for the information John, I think the F&G is correct, the holdovers from last year are still there, the small ones that are being caught now are next years fish. What area were you fishing? We are going up next week, will probably hit Canyon Creek first, if nothing there then try near the...

Sure hope you just got into the smaller ones microfish, on several occasions we have hit schools that were mostly small fish. I am pretty sure there's a big number of larger ones, we were catching quite a few in the 7" to 8" range last year that should be this years fish.

Hi John, We are doing the same, the steelheading is really good here on the Snake, but with all the warm weather the river will probably be out of shape soon. Do you usually start fishing near the dam on your early trips?

Good catch John, makes a busy day when you are catching that many, were you using a flasher like the Slingblade, and how far was the set back from the ball? I'm really glad you were catching them like that, sure beats pulling a string of spinners. I can't believe the Huckleberry crop, we picked...

That is pretty good John, have you or any of your friends been out recently. We have been picking Huckleberries, and have been waiting for the weather to cool down a little, as soon as it does we will be off to Freeman Creek for three or four days.
