    Lake Stevens on Sunday 6/10

I was tying a clone of the "green" spinner last night in case I need to double up on them in the future and I noticed that the beads were actually not green, but actually tranluscent yellow. It had a couple black beads mixed in and was designed to mimic a small perch.

    Splitting Hagens order?

Ah, I forgot he had it on his website too. I did something akin to the single bend, but it ended up a lot more rounded than what he shows in the drawing. Those buggers are amazingly difficult to bend.

    Splitting Hagens order?

I started with them just like they came and they gave a bit of wobble action, but not the usual wide roll dodgers usually impart. We were fishing relatively slow so that might be part of the issue. I just gave it a nice wide bend (almost like stringing a bow) and that gave it a lot more action...

    Lake Stevens on Sunday 6/10

I went out with my dad on Sunday for my first Kokanee trip of 2012. Started off at around 5:30am. Typically there is an early bite around sunrise, but we either missed it or it was pretty weak. We did get some hits early on, but they were a mix of very small fish (6-9") or Yellow Perch. Most of...

    Splitting Hagens order?

I got several 14+" fish this morning behind a Green and Orange T3. Didn't get a chance to get my Pink & Plum ones wet yet. I had to bend all my T3's to give them some action at the speeds we troll.

    Splitting Hagens order?

Here are a few things I learned from my experience ordering from Hagens this year: You can order whatever quantity you want. You will theoretically get charged an extra $1 if you're under the minimum (so 5 $0.20 spinner blades would cost $2.00), but some of us have found that they didn't...

    Crappie Tubes as a Hoochie?

Cabelas actually carries two different Walleye Bead assortments. 1 is 1000 beads (six colors, two sizes) and the other is 3000 beads (10 colors, two sizes). Cheapest way to get beads I've found.

Matzou sickle vs. gama octopus hooks

Do a search for Captain Hooks for the Matzuo Sickle's. Cheapest place I've found them, by far. Red #4's seem hard to come by at the moment, however.

    Koke fishing

You do not always need to add a lot of weight when trolling. I caught a lot of fish last year just running out a hundred plus feet of line with no weight and a 4/0 dodger with a wedding ring spinner. One day in the fall, I got three fish long lining while the two downrigger poles got none...

    Off Season Creativity?

Trollmonkey, Thoe dodger look good. Hagens somehow forgot to include my Crow spoons in my order (but I ended up with some extra stuff so I didn't raise a fuss). I'm curious how they fish and look. I ordered some Kach-Moor spoons (which, in the 3.75" size appear too small for dodgers) and I...

    Off Season Creativity?

I may have gone a bit nuts this off season. Still have enough hooks, beads, and blades to dow at least a hundred and fifty more lures.

    Lake Meridian/Lake Sawyer

You inspired me to seek out the 2009 stocking plans (since we're typically catching 3yr old fish, this seems to be the stock we'd be catching, correct?). In 2009 Lake Sawyer was stocked with 65,000 Kokanee (279 acres or 232 fish per acre) and Meridian got 40,000 (150 acres or 266 fish per acre)...

    Hagen's new catalog

Received my first order today. I had meant to call to see if that might help avoid the $1 charge for ordering under the minimum, but I decided not reading a million numbers over the phone was worth something to me so I just did it online. Order came today and they didn't charge me the $1 fees at...

    Planting kokanee in Lake Stevens?

Hopefully nobody minds me me bumping this thread from the dead, but I stumbled on it tonight while looking for some related information and just had to bring it to the top. Lake Stevens is my home lake so the historical information Curt provided was especially interesting, but the stocking...

New way to fan a hoochie

I hadn't really thought of fanning them before for more action, but it makes sense. I just tried dipping a couple in near boiling water, pulling them out upside down to fan them, and holding them under cold water fanned. Seemed to work similarly to the photo above, but I have no idea if it will...

    Why do Kokes Jump?

I fish Lake Stevens, north of Seattle, which does not have any Mackinaw. In fact, the only possible predators of Kokanee in the lake would be Rainbows or Largemouth Bass, but that would be an exception rather than a common occurrence. We see plenty of jumping Kokanee, typically early in the morning.

    dodger size

If you wanted a little more space, one of those leaders they sell pike and musky fisherman would clip in their perfectly and since they're nylon covered braided wire it wouldn't tangle easily.

    Blades on your lures

That Meps link is very interesting since it has actual audio files of the spinner blades. It shows that larger blades spin slower than smaller blades and therefore produce a lower frequency. Again, what it means for Kokanee fishing is anyones guess. The color talk related to time of day sparked...

    Blades on your lures

Why do I feel like a scientist who spent a two years and millions of dollars in grants to come to the conclusion that people like cookies. :)

    Blades on your lures

Toni, I posted a similar question a month or two back and had a couple of responses, but nothing very conclusive. I've done a ton more searching and reading since then and I must admit I haven't come any closer to a real conclusion. In fact, I've actually come to the conclusion that with...
