    Koocanusa

That's great news, Kootenai! Are most of the fish still in the 8-9" range? Planning a trip in early August, but not excited to get a bunch of dinks. The difference between an 8" and 10" fish is surprisingly big!

    Koocanusa

We're near Missoula. Have a boat with one downrigger we stack two lines on along with leadcore, planers, etc.

Thanks buddy! I would love to know more. We did not make it up there yet, but have tentatively planned our trip for the first week of August.

    Koocanusa

I heard that the crested 1.5' below full pool and just started dropping yesterday. Fishing has been off a little, but should be picking up. Fish are larger than normal this year. I think I will be up later in the week and will post a report. Can anyone recommend a good area of the lake to fish...

Has anyone been to Koocanusa lately? Thinking about taking the Wife and two babies up for a few days and we have never been there before. I really want them to have a good time. Thanks

    Ice fishing for kokanee?

Don't forget that kokanee are often right under the ice, even over 100' or more depth. The tiniest, lightest gear you can find will often take many fish when this happens.

    Late fall kokanee

When is it time to pack in the trolling gear and concentrate on jigging? In the spring I seem to have less luck trolling before the water temps get into the mid-50's. Wondering if this will be the case late in the fall too or if they may stay more active to get ready for winter.

    Tape Cutting?

Matte-cutters for picture framing make great straight cuts and these other guys have the rest of it.

    How often do switch gear

I usually run 4+ rods, so, if the fish aren't biting, I try to change one whenever the kids give me a chance. Two babies (seriously, 6 months and 2 years old) in the boat makes for great times and interesting challenges.

    Homemade Musky Bucktail Tying Issues

Mepps Musky Killer bucktails do have quite a large end where wrapped. Perhaps curved scissors would aid in rounding the end? I would consider tying in the hair with a few loose wraps, then give it a good pull to cause the hair to flair (just a little). Pay attention to the curve of the bucktail...

    Antelope Tags filled

Congratulations! I'm getting excited for hunting season to kick off here, but I guess that will mean I have to put the boat away. Not enough time.

    Tinsel

Has anyone tried mylar tube flies (like a hoochie) for kokes? Lots of nice colors available and more fun to make your own :)

Jealous! Will next year be as good on the Gorge? I sure hope so because I want to make the trip!

    Late season advice

I highly recommend trying different lures than just spinners. Spinners are great, but not all the time and not on all bodies of water. That being said, I have a hunch that sockeyes (and kokanee) become more active on red colors as their bodies start to redden for spawning. Might be the answer...
