2021 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Fishing Report

We fished Elk Creek yesterday. The fish were scattered and the bite was slow. The fish are still bright silver, no sign of color change.

2021 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Fishing Report

We found nice fish in Elk Creek last Monday but the smoke put an early end to our day. We were surprised that the the eggs in the females were still immature for this late in the in the year. Sure would like to get another trip in but the heat and smoke will probably prevent that from happening.

You just destroyed a perfectly good theory. Good job!

2021 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Fishing Report

Past discussions tend to concur that increased flow through the dam tends to kill the bite. Our experience agrees with this theory.

2020 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Fishing Report

Thanks for posting, Rick. That's a report only a biologist could love (I know because my fishing partner is one)! Bottom line, the fertilization program has worked exceptionally well with no apparent negative side effects. Sean and Matt have done a great job to improve our kokanee fishing on...

We were out a month ago. Most of them were 9 inches, none bigger.

Now that's a cabin cruiser on a budget. Good for you! The one fish looks quite a bit bigger than the others.

2020 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Fishing Report

Sounds like you have the basics. Depth is very important. We were on the lake last Thursday prepared to fish up high (left downriggers at home) and experiment with side planers to get our lures away from the boat. We hit a few fish but it was slow. We finally put on one ounce of lead and dropped...

    2019 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Report

We are still having good success in the Canyon Creek area. Downriggers at 25 feet, long lines with 1 oz at 70 to 100 feet.

    2019 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Report

We fished Sunday with good success. Everyone on the lake had nets out. Since 12000 CFS is being released from the dam, I guess we can bury the theory that the bite stops while they are dumping water.

Thank you for the excellent report, we are very happy to see that you had a good day. Water flow through the dam was dropped on May 9. Coincidence?

    2019 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Report

We had similar results, two weeks ago we had a good day and Thursday we caught two. Water temperatures were the same both trips. On April 15 they began releasing 10,000 CFS (not a tremendous amount) through the dam which may have them off the bite. I used to think that water releases would not...

    2019 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Report

We went yesterday. Took most of the day to find them but when we did we had two good hours. Put 9 in the cooler and lost more than that. Biggest were 11 inches, others were 9-10. We were down 15-20 feet on the downriggers and out 50-75 feet with 1 ounce of lead on the long lines.

We fished for several hours yesterday and caught one fish. We worked Freeman Creek, Canyon Creek, Indian Creek, Dicks Creek, and Elk Creek. Surface water temp was 54 degrees.

2017 Dworshak Reservoir Kokanee Fishing Report

Ken: Water was in very good shape, no debris. We never know from one trip to the next whether long lines or downriggers will work the best. A lot of times it changes during the day. We were going to go again this week but the weather has us hunkered down. Maybe next week. John
