This has been an interesting topic. I appreciate all the information from everyone. Its looking like we can get time off to go the end of july so we will have to try again another time for some red ones. I hope everyone is having a good koke season!

Ive only ever got them when they started turning, had a little pink showing.... We ate those and they were just as good to me. Ive never seen a full on red one before, they just look awesome. Dirk has 2 mounted in his office at the villa and they are so cool looking. They would make a great mount!

My wife and I are planning a trip to the gorge and wanted to get some red kokanee. I do understand that they aren't as good to eat then, however, we still want to try it. When do the kokes turn over there at the gorge and do they start heading to sheep creek during that time? Any thoughts or...

I was wondering if anyone has caught any kokes on the gorge yet this year. We are headed over in a week for lake trout fishing and usually never are over there this time of year. We mostly fish the Lucerne area and I thought one day we might try for some kokes.

That is good news. I hear it is all iced up still over there. Might be a while before we get to do any boat fishing?

I have heard that the ice is breaking up and by then you should be good. There isn't any snow at all. When we were there 2 weeks ago it felt like spring then when we came home it still feels like winter. I want to go back in april as well....

Buckboard is my favorite. It seems like it doesn't even matter where you go and get them. I haven't done alot of it so Im new, lots of good advice from some great people on here.

Thanks alot for the report. We plan on heading up in a couple of weeks. We go for big Lakers and when that is slow go for the kokes. I love Flaming Gorge.
