Hey All -

According to the Bend Bulletin the fishing on Wickiup has been good with reports of 3 and 4 pounders being caught? Has any ever pulled anything close to a 3-4 lbs kokanee out of Wickiup?

Dr. Matt,
Do you have the article from the Bend Bulletion? I would like to know some of the details, who wrote it, when, and the rest of the story. Also should I be packing my gear tonite?

it wasn't an article it was just an update on the fishing at Wickiup. To the best of my knowledge no one has done well at Wickiup and in the five years I have been fishing Wickiup I've never heard of anyone catching anything close to a 3 or 4 bls koke on that lake.

Thanks Dr. Matt, I guess I can unpack my gear now! laugh hyst

Well I've fish Wickiup Lake over ten years/ NEVER seen or heard of kokanee that big.

We were catching 2+ pounders in July, so a 3lb may not be out of the relm of possabilities, but a 4 pounder seems to be stretching it a bit.

Since Wickiup is so shallow I wonder how they'd taste this late in the season...that water temperature has gotta be pretty warm with the weather we've had lately.

They would taste as muddy as the bottom. Best to let them eggs go on up stream......2cents

Still good eaters at Odell, I will be there on Sunday for my last trip east for the season.

lots of algae growth at Wickiup this year, water was soupy even in mid July. fish were starting to have that green silage taste.
did get a 2.5 lber. fat fish this year. good water levels and river flows.

knuckle heads trying to waterski in 25ft monster flat bottomed alum. sleds with tons of people on board. have no sense of safe boating rules cutting within 50 ft with a 5 ft wake throwing all of us koke fishermen around. almost flipped over a 16ft open boat with 4 guys. thank god for a big boat with high sides.
they do know what 1/2 of the peace sign backwards is.
i'll take the jet ski crotch jockeys any day.

I am with DLM. I never like to fish Wickiup this late in the season. Mid July is about as late as I will fish it. Let'm spawn...
