We finally got up to the Gorge yesterday as we knew the weather wasn't going to be any better for a while. The Kokes were scattered throughout the lake but you could see them in small pods 8-10 fish clusters-average depth was about 40-42 feet. we also saw a few stacked in columns. We got a great start but then the fishing shut off for a couple of hours. It picked back up later letting us get our limit quickly after loosing 5-6 throughout the day. Above the pipeline in the Anvil area was dead calm, but coming down into the pipeline produced breezes-and more fish! we were trolling along for about 2 hours at one point half asleep before we almost lost a pole due to the hit that was put down on us! We quickly boated 2 more to put into the box and quit around 3pm.

We were using Sunshine Glow squids-(excellent squid!) from Christensens along with some green ones-(I can't rememeber the name-Green glow?) with silver/blue/silver green dodgers. We also had great luck on RMT pink squids and the rainbow assassins with Shattered glass dodgers. Sorry Art didnt get to your stuff this trip too many tackle boxes and so little time!

Weather was dead calm around Anvil, but breezy at the pipeline and below. The pipeline is a good place to fish during this weather if you can hold a course in it-ours is like a kite sometimes.

Here are some pics, very rare to be this calm early in the year-

BTW- be advised there is NO working fish cleaning station. I didn't realize this until we had the boat on the trailer and ready to cover. we put the kokes back on ice and cleaned them at home.

awesomereport Can't wait to get back up there. Fish cleaning stations should start opening soon now that we are starting to break away from the grips of winter.

Looks like you had gorgeous conditions and a gorgeous fishing partner. Fish look like they went 16" - 17"?

SuperD-

Thanks! I would say they were more like 15", but they were all about the same size. They sure do put a good fight-some made a kamikazie run at the boat. One even came out of the water just behind the boat and we didnt even know he was on until the release popped a few seconds afterwards-it was crazy.

Bduck,
Yes, it's only a matter of time before the fishing picks up from the winter conditions. I think it will turn on here in a couple of weeks if we can get these next cold weather systems to go by and get a little more heat.

Looking forward to fishing the Gorge this year. Been a long time since I was there last, need to christen the new boat properly with koke blood LOL.

Is that Butter-N-Brown Sugar is see?

Excellent report and an excellent meal!

Exactly right on the butter and brown sugar! I also add some teriyaki sauce in for good measure.

Whenever our dog smells that Barbeque smell, she won't leave us alone until we give her a few pieces!

Withdrawls

Already Gone. Nice boat and nice pictures of the fish. Loved the color of them on the grill. I can only go one week per year to the Gorge and now I am experiencing withdrawls after seeing your pictures. Oh we'll June is not to far away.
awesomereport Keep them coming.tongue2

Headed to Flaming Gorge today

Thanks for the report. Just what I needed to build upon my excitement for my Gorge trip. I am leaving today and will return home (Ammon, ID) next Tuesday. Going to target Kokanee, Lakers, and Burbot. This is the first time I will be fishing for Burbot but since I am staying on the boat I figure I might as well fish for them late evening and night time. As for Kokanee I will start at the pipline and work north and then fish for Lakers where I find them.

Headed up tomorrow myself. Looks like great day for getting the line wet for the first time this year. Noticed the lucerne web cam doesn't show any docks in yet. Guess I will find out in the morning. Will post some pics when I get back

I just talked to someone a couple of days ago who was up there. He said the docks were still on the ramp. I don't know what they are waiting for now that this weather hass passed and the water seems to be stabilizing. The walkway on the right will handle a 25 footer tied up to it while you go get the trailer and theres not much traffic going on yet. Good luck to you-it looks like it will be a great weekend....

Finally have everything ready and heading up Saturday. Can't wait to get up and wet the lines, and see all the friends we haven't seen for a while.
