I made a couple of trips up to Pipeline this weekend to fish some new real estate. Unfortunately my success was both good and poor.

On Friday, I went solo. I stopped under the Pipeline around 3PM, marked fish, and immediately started trolling uplake in the chop. I had to switch-it-up some, but ended up getting a limit of kokes on a RMT Fusion dodger followed by a green cotton candy squid running from 35-45 ft. I caught a couple of 1.5 lbers that couldn't be released and added them and an additional 3 lber to the "deadwell". I saw a lot of lakers deep, so I put on some spoons and dropped the riggers down to 75-80 ft. Within a few minutes I hooked into a 4 lb koke on a Northland Forage Minnow. Not long after I got an est. 3.5 lb koke on a RMT Serpent spoon in Tequila Sunrise running at 75 ft. Crazy and I wish I caught them earlier. I forged on and managed a limit of pups in about an hour, using the above spoons. Boat speed was 1.6-2.2 mph.

On Sunday, I took a buddy and we made the trip early. There were already a lot of boats hard at it, but we didn't see much being boated. We trolled for an hour and a half, switching-it-up often, and only caught 1 small koke and a lake trout. We were marking a lot, just like Friday, but it seemed the bite was off (at least for us). We stopped on some concentrations we GPSed and jigged up a few additional pups and a nice 3 lb koke using Buzzbombs before heading south.

Hope to make it up there again soon. There's a lot of both species stacked in that area. Hope it helps and good luck, Ryno

Thanks, good report yourself! I forgot to mention in my report like you did in yours about the abundance of floating trees, logs, etc in the canyon reach. In the morning it's somewhat of a slalom course, but by afternoon most of it pushes back to shore. With the water coming up so fast (about 6-inches a day) a lot of old debris is floating off the shoreline. Just keep a look-out.
