of course this is spring

When we get all weather in one day it is the northwest spring. That happened in my neck of the woods Feb. 28. You know by the calendar spring is not until March 20th.
We are in the process.

this is the PNW, if it anin't rainin' ya' can't catch any fish.
wind helps also.
kokes are SHALLOW in the early spring cold water. bright sun makes them spooky as hell.

Change the direction of troll according to the sun. Fish far behind the boat. Believe me you can still kill kokes on the top on a windless, cloudless day.

Hmmm that might explain why my lead lines out fish my riggers some days. First time I have heard about trolling according to sun position, care to elaborate? Or is that a guarded secret?

I swear that your shadow will push fish one way or the other. If you fish perpendicular to the sun the side of the boat that's towards the sun seems to produce better. Now by no way is this a science, some days those buggers chase the baits and the other hooked fish right to the boat. But on the days it's tough, it seems to occur. Just a different perspective...

BTW, I can't find anything current on the closure up there. I'll call tomorrow but hopefully I will be able to post a current report.

i was making a joke about fair weather only fishermen, gotta cut done on the competitors somehow.101idea101101chromefish101

I will fish in any weather. It just seemed that the local lake was having a hard time producing any fish. The only reason I haven't been out is my boat has been being worked on.

This next week looks pretty normal for Spring time, but I plan to get out on Saturday.

Thank you everyone for your comments!

eenakok,
good a good chance of hitting some hot early fishing on Merwin with all this warm wind, sunshine heating the water and warm nites.
may be an early season.
will be watching to see how you do.
good luck and may the gods of the big kal'l bless your boat as the First Nation people would say.

I would love to make the trip down. If I didn't have something going on tomorrow, I would be down there. Next week I plan to stay local and fish American. I hope to make the trip down sometime this season though!
