I have a Lowrance HDS7 that is about 4 1/2 years old and the factory transducer died. When I called Lowrance tech service they said it is not uncommon. I had been thinking about replacing it with an Airmar P66 anyway since fellow kokanee heads thought they work great.
101idea101The first mistake I made in the install of the original was to run the wires along with all of the others from the back of the boat. I cleaned up and re-bundled when I re-powered last fall. Oops now I had to tear every thing apart to get the still good paddle wheel sensor out....yuck! Got that done and ran the new cable down the other side as recommended in the Airmar instructions. Yes, read the instructions; amazing huh? Now if I need to change the transducer I only have to touch one set of wires.
Size matters! Take a look at the pic of the two xducers side by side. Can hardly wait to put it in the water. Will post how it works once I put it in the water later this week. By the way the paddle wheel is for sale ($35) and fits the Lowrance HDS units; nice adder for water speed when trolling.
Don't seem to be able to upload pics now, any ideas? - Alan
