This is a GREAT way to get the anchor up in deep water . I used mine when we went to BC fishing and will use it in deep water in the bay also. I have a 55# anchor for the ocean and would not even try to pull up 200' of rope without this set up.. Highly recommend this .

I guess I'm not clear on how the "puller" mechanism works and am surprised it can work in deep water. Doesn't the mechanism "walk" the float down the line towards the anchor? Does it stop "walking" when the line gets close to vertical?

Think of the ball as a anchor point, a hook in an overhead beam. The puller as a pully attached to the hook. When you pull on the anchor rope with your boat it pulls the rope through the "pully" until your anchor reaches the pully.

The resistance of the ball being dragged through the water tends to keep the ball in one place (the hook in the beam). Since the boat is moving, and the ball is held back by the water, something has to give, and that is the anchor rope moving through the mechanism.

That is the best I can describe it. It sure works slick. I don't river fish but it comes in handy at some of the deeper lakes. I don't hesitate at all to anchor in 100 feet of water, knowing that I won't have to touch the anchor until it gets to the surface.

There are a couple different "mechanisms" on the market. They have a slot that runs diagnally to the rope and there is a bolt that runs through the slots. The rope passes through the mechanism and over or under the bolt. The bolt allows the anchor ball to only move in one direction, to the anchor.

The ez-marine is the better one but I have and use both. These are great and are a real back saver when you have a 30 to 50lb anchor. I like using the larger ball vs the smaller one but I have a large-ish tub.

These devices also allow you to drop off the anchor when fighting a fish. Just toss the rope over the side and drift with the current.

MONTE Look at the video that BULLIT posted ,it describes the way it works . My anchor is the breakaway type and I haven't had any problem pulling it off the bottom (yet). My rope is 300' w/25' floating rope that hooks to the boat and floats when it is released to drift if I have to fight a fish. I use a 24" bouy type ball and it will lift my 55# anchor. I think I paid @ $115.00 for rope and ez-lift . If you ever see this in action you will buy one . 2 of the other boats that went to BC fishing ordered their's when we got back. Get the biggest bouy you can get cause you never know when you might get a heavier anchor ..PM me if you have any other questions or call me 707-246-5839.. Did you find a new boat yet??

Thanks, Guys, for your insight into this anchoring system. I had never heard of it before. (I guess that means I should get out more...at least that's what I'll tell the wife). As usual, I learn a lot here.

MONTE . Did you find a new boat yet??

Jim, I haven't found a "new to me" boat yet, though I've only looked at a couple. But I learned a lot from those. One of the things I learned is that I have beer taste (maybe imported beer) on a lemonade budget. I also learned that I should take the advice to look at a lot of boats. Since I just got my knee operated on yesterday, I'm "window-shopping" online right now. I wish the Sacto show was sooner as I'd like to look at the boats there. (That's not my knee talking).

I had a similar setup on my last boat. I'll never be without one again.
When mac fishing here, we sometimes have over 300 feet of line out, this is the only way to pull that much line

Let's see...should I install one of these anchor retrievers or get three bikini-clad ladies on board to pull the anchor? 101juggle101
I could use the gals for a fishing competition and troll around the fleet. No one would catch any fish but me because they'd all be gawking instead of watching their fishing poles.

If you're going to get 3 "anchor babes" I can GUARANTEE that you will need a MUCH bigger boat! Do you have any idea how much sh...er...stuff they need to bring with them!?!?! 101shock1101
