Ok...I this might be looked upon as bragging but I'm excited.

Most of you know that while fishing the Buckboard derby on Flaming Gorge my partner Brian Ekx boated the new Wyoming/Utah State record Kokanee at 6.26lbs using a Vance's Rod and a Copper Blue Speckled Dodger with a Size 1 Blue pink UV glow Sockeye Slammer.

I just received an email from Jerry Logosz saying that he caught the new Oregon State record Kokanee that is registered with IGFA at 7lb 1 oz on our rod also! That is two state Kokanee records in one year on our rods.

Pretty Cool! thumbsup

I smell a new tag line Vance.... "Tough enough to hang on to state records!". I'm kind of surprised that the FG record was not broken again though given the brutes that were showing up this year.

Hi Kevin,

I too expected that the record be broken simply by the fact that our fish was a Buck and caught so early in the season.

But on the other hand the Gorge had a weird year as far as inflow and the fishing was off compared to recent years.

When I say off, I mean less fish caught on average. But the fishing was still terrific, in fact, I like it better when the fishing is a little tougher. It isn't nearly as fun when you can go pretty much anywhere on the lake and they will hit anything you put down for them. As an example, I will never forget the first time I went back to the Gorge in late June of 2002. It was virtually impossible to troll 100 yards without catching at least one 2.0 to 3.lb Kokanee and doubles and triples were extremely common. The first day we thought it was great and had a blast, by the third day we were bored to death and switched over to Mack's.

I clearly remember on the last day of that trip we fished 3 rods for Mack's and one rod for Kokanee. On that one rod not even targeting Kokanee we caught 17 on Dodgers and Sockeye Slammers (Single Hook) unhooking and releasing them over the side without removing them from the water.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that is doesn't take 50 fish days to have a good time. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next year.

Hi Mack,

Unfortunately we do not have any retailers in Washington. We do offer them on our web site in the "other products" section. For Kokanee we offer two rods, the model 702 7' rod is rated to 10 lb test and is a great rod for Kokanee, Walleye and trout trolling. This rod can easily handle fish that range from 6 inches to 12 pounds. I landed my largest 13.49lb German Brown on this rod. It took a while, but I got it to the net!!

For Kokanee extreme we offer the model 762, 7'6" rod that is rated to 8lb test which is manufactured from a #5 weight fly rod blank that is extremely parabolic (limber) this makes it incredibly hard for the fish to work out the hook. This rod can easily handle fish from 6 inches to 5 lbs. Of course, in trolling situations you generally have room to let them run so this rod can handle fish up to 10lbs if you let them run. Hang on and have fun!!!

We also offer an 8 foot model 802 rod rated at 8 to 20 lb test that is terrific for Salmon trolling off of a downrigger, trolling for big Mackinaw and drifting for Halibut. I have customers that use this extremely limber rod from trolling lead core line for trout to landing large Salmon to 40lb pounds off of downriggers. Again, for large Salmon, and large Lakers...Hang on and have fun!!!

All of these rods are made from durable "E" glass materials, have extra long grade "A" cork handles (model 802 utilizes EVA grips) are two piece and have our custom Spiral wrap guide placement.

All of our products are listed under the "Buy Now" section on our website.https://www.rainbowplastics.com/VancesTackle/vstore.html

Rod prices are as follows:
Model 702 $69.99
Model 762 $79.99
Model 802 $79.99

As you can see these rods are very reasonably priced, especially because they are custom designed and totally unique for our type of fishing.

There are video's on our website explaining the differences in rods for trolling techniques.

Let me know if you have any questions and I will help you any way I can.

Thank you

Vance Staplin
