Ball trolls

I have read here in the forum that trolls work well on DR balls. So if the color at the time is pink, do you go with a pink shaded troll? Do you use cow bells? Beer Cans? If it is a clear day or morning or evening do you still use silver, cloudy day use copper or gold?Has anyone used a different color ball besides orange, black red? How about shape of troll weight, round, flat, shark?101chromefish101101chromefish101

I use the Vance's Cannonball trolls (blades are silver and gold.) Somedays I attach a set of smaller trolls behind them. I've never tried matching the troll blade color to the lure...might be worth a try. I use ball shape weights but if I had it to do over again I'd go with the pancake for less blow back.

I have 3 colors of ball trolls, pink, purple and green. When I use them, I do run the same color lure behind them. Whether it makes a difference or not, I'll never know.

I like to make "Stuff" so I made up a lot of ball trolls/ attractors using different types & sizes of blades. I have spray painted, dipped & used several types of Finger Nail Polish on them! (wife owns Salon). I even used the larger sizes of Spin & Glows as attractors. Bass Buzz blades make very nice flashers. Some are short 2-3 feet and some as long as 6 feet. I make up my own Pancake weights & use tape on them for different colors. My latest attempt is the Vertical Ball Troll. ( under General disscusion)

After all is said and done I Think they help but how can you really tell how much? Sooo I guess the only think for certain is how much funn do you have making them up & catching Kokanee!

Well, I can see that I will be using some ball trolls in the near future.! I just have one mor question. Do you think that it helps to put tape on the DR ball?
Oh ya, I have thought of another question. So when the Kokanee are all red and gone, do you still fish for the next years crop of Kokanee? Or do you start fishing for some larger trout in the same reservoirs?101chromefish101101chromefish101

I think tape might help but like everyone else has mentioned who the heck knows. I usually don't have too much trouble catching fish but really don't know if it has anything to do with the weights. I tend to go by the more attraction the better and figure why not use them to your advantage. Most books on kokanee mention the use of holographic, UV, and prism tapes to be a good thing to add to lures and dodgers...so why not the weight, especially since kokanee aren't ball shy and don't seem to mind short set-backs.
As far as when to call it quits kokanee fishing I call it a season when the majority of fish need to be released.

Alright that's all for now. Just for clarification I have just standard black cannon downrigger balls but now mine seem so boring.
