Scout team 1 (Alan, Dennis and myself) met up this morning and headed to Bodega to see if in fact the salmon had entered the area. We ran the 9.9 miles north to the mouth of the Russian River and put lines down in 100' of water. The bait balls were large and within minutes, I had a hook up with a small fish that was just over a keeper. That fish came right off the bottom on a chartreuse FBR and a Herring. About an hour or so later, I bring my stuff up to 60' OTW and get smacked again by a nice 20+ lbs fish that made us do the circus dance to get him in the boat. We threaded the rod under downrigger wires and pulled the fish from both the front of the boat and from underneath in order to get it in the net and on the deck. The day got a little long, nothing for quite a while. Then about 1:30, Dennis hooks a nice fish on a chartreuse green Trinidad with a Herring. Just about the time we got Dennis' fish boated, both Alan and I have a drive bye that peeled line and was gone.
Tons of boats on the water and all in the same place so the pressure on the area could prove to have an impact but the fish are there.
