I am a Soldier in the Army and have recently purchesed a 16 foot Smokercraft Pro Tracer. I have only fished American. I am from the south and usually fished for bass, bream, crappie and catfish. I am close to retirement so i did not want to purchase a lot of gear that I would never use once i went back home to KY. I am fishing rodholders and not down riggers. The setup I use is a Cabelas depthmaster trolling reel and a kokanee rod with an 8 oz weight, dodger and a wedding ring with worm or a squid with a worm. Is there anyone else that fishes a similiar setup? I could really use some pointers. I have caugh many stock trout but no Kokanee.

Try maggots or white shoepeg corn instead of a piece of worm. Also try some scents (krill, sardine, somthing with a sugar base). Another good idea is varying your speed/putting your boat in neutral, then back in gear/making erratic turns.

You can also try jigging for them.

8oz weight might be too much, especially for this time of year. Right now most fish people are catching are just with a dodger and no weight at all, and when the fish do start to drop later in the year a 4oz is probably all you will need
