The Gorge was at her best for me again this week. After doing a drive by last week and seeing nothing but open water, I hooked up the boat to the motorhome and headed out on friday morning. We pulled into Holmes crossing with a look of total astonishment on our faces. All we could see was ice. We ventured out onto the ice to check for thickness, found 3" of solid clear ice. We settled down for a noisey night of burbot fishing. My buddy pulled in the only burbot at about 9pm, we never seen any marks on the flasher or any other fishermen. The next morning we decided the reason we didn't see anyone is there ain't no fish there, so lets go where everyone else is. Arrived at Lost Dog, lots of people already there. Set up by the big cliff, drilled a bunch of holes and waited. Saturday was much quieter, not near as much noise coming from the ice. We called it a night at 10 after sitting there for some 8 plus hours and not seeing or hearing anyone catching a fish. Once again another trip to the Gorge with the same results, may be time to hire a guide or give up. NEVER

Ouch. That's a rough outing.

I'll probably start going up there in April, weather permitting, to get after the Kokanee. I'd be more than happy to show you the ropes.
