One of my electric down riggers is giving me problems. When retrieving the weight up it wont bring it up, acts like its slipping. If I tighten down the drag as hard as I can then it will come up, but if I'm slow to shut it off the second it hits the boom it will start free falling back down in the water. Very frustrating. My guess is its the cluth/brake system that is wore out. Can i rebuild them myself or do I need to send to Cannon? Any ideas what you think could possibly be the problem?
Thanks
Brent

I had a similar problem a few years ago and it turned out to be a crack in the hub of my spool. Seeing as how Cannons have a lifetime warranty, simply find the closest certified Cannon Repair Center near you and they'll do it all for free.

I have two electric Cannons had some problem with the power cord corroding took it to Ollie Damons in Portland Wa La repaired.

Check with Swede R's in Midvale. I think there is one other Cannon dealer listed in the SLC area as well.

I have had the same problem before there is a set screw and a notch on the spool and shaft unwind the cable and realine the notch and retighten the screw

Thanks guys. Good to know there is a cannon repair place in SLC. Hey Art I shot an e-mail to Cannon and they responded with the exact same thing you said. Got several winter projects I will be doing to get ready for next years fishin trips. This will go on to the list. Sad day just got my boat winteized. Ya i know its early but we got the hunts coming up and wont be allot of fishing time left for me. I actually have 2 boats ,small tin fishing boat that I can take out til the ice starts to form. Thanks again.
