I hit the lake with some buddies of mine, one of which had never kokanee fished before. Needless to say we lost quite a few, until he learned some "finesse"! All in all, we had a great morning on the water, boating 9 kokes and 3 rainbows. Most of the fish were caught on RMT dodgers (hyperplaid and fusion) trailed by RMT Demons or Shasta Kokanuts in pink. We also caught some of our bigger kokes (4 year olds) on spoons including Triple Teazers and Needlefish in "pearl bikini".

We fished the Jarvies Bay region and most of the fish were between 35-50 ft. Trolling speed was 1.8-2.0mph and water temp was 62F.

Hope it helps, Ryno

Thanks for the report Ryan, I think you are the only other person besides myself (that I know of) that fishes Jarvis. You can't beat the scenery Along with the quality of fish.

Beehive is usally as far as I go into the canyon to catch nice fish. How do the fish in the Jarvis area compare?

I spent more time fishing up around Beehive and the Rope Swing last year and couldn't really tell the difference in the size of my catch relative to the lower canyon. Now if I shoot up to Pipeline, I notice a big difference. Most of the fish I've caught down here this year are 14-16 inches. I have picked up one or two each trip that are pushing over 18-inches. They are typically the deeper fish and also caught on spoons. It's really a decision between the size up north and the scenery down south w/out the congestion, like Kokehead was stating. For me, it's also a lot closer to fish Jarvies, so there's monetary savings to consider also. Ryno

Once you get your limit of kokes do you fish for Lakers? If you do are there any with size on the UT side?

Thanks

Plenty of big Lakers in the Linwood Bay and Antelope Bay near Lucerne.

I do, and I'll also chase smallies or bows depending on the day. It also depends on the day whether I decide to chase pup lake trout or the big boys. I really like eating the pups, especially on the grill or smoking. I like chasing big fish, but spend more time doing that in the fall-winter-spring, when the other species aren't as active. There's some size on the UT side, and like SuperD stated, Antelope Flat is always a good choice. Sheep Creek, Hideout, Jarvies and near the dam also provide some quality lake trout spots. Those can get busy this time of year too. Ryno

Thanks for the info! I haven't gone after the lake trout yet. I been given some advice on how to vertically jig but I could use some help on what and how to troll for them. I have down riggers and can go any speed. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
