First I would like to "Thank Everyone" one here for all the Good Info they post. I must have learned something. laugh hyst Here's some photos of my trip. 5.5 hrs. from home. Fish were all about 2 lb. and 17" or so. Caught 8 fish over about 20 hours. I'd call that slow fishing but, WOW was it FUN !!! One fish all most jumped in the boat. 30 feet down and a Florescent Pink Apex Kokanee Killer 36' above the 7 lb lead fish and about 14 feet back. I even got a video of a Bald Eagle grab a Koke off the surface and fly over head to show me how to do it.

That's a great first fish post and congrats! I'm sure your mind is really spinning now on when and how to get after them again!

No, I bought them years ago when I fished the Salt Chuck. I wish I had bought a WHOLE BUNCH of them now. I can't find the fish shaped weights anywhere and everyone is selling the 10# cannonball for $65 101shock1101 They look new because they were looking pretty grungy, so I washed them in solvent, sprayed them with zinc chromate ( TOXIC ) primer and top coated them with "PlasticCoat" Bumper Chrome spray paint. Certainly isn't like chrome, but like nice shinny aluminum. Bonus is not handling LEAD 101thumbsdown101

congratulations on the kokanee. last week i came close to getting my first one. the two other guys in the boat caught 5 while we were trolling for trout. i am going out in the morning to try again.

no kokanee in texas. i am fishing colorado for the summer.

rebelsportsman, Your gonna have to put the Gorge on your list for next year. We can have you moving further west once you fish that lake. Koke fishing is phenominal there.

black lab, Same goes with you. But I'm not sure where your talking about when you say your from the Great White North. Clue me in. Alaska or Canada or Dakotas? 101shock1101

Congrats to you both for your first. 101notworthy2101

what town is the gorge close to. we will start planning where to spend next summer pretty soon. blue mesa out of gunnison is on the short list right now, but utah is not much farther than colorado.

Manila is on the Utah side with motel availability with launch at Lucerne. There is USFS campgrounds in Lucerne. Buckboard is situated on the Wyoming side. It has a store, USFS campgrounds as well as private campgrounds behind the store. There is also plenty of open primitive camping in between with launch ramps. There are also more developed campgrounds located throughout the Utah side.

i caught up with you. i got my first kokanee this morning. now i get to see what they taste like.

I don't eat much fresh fish. I usually can or smoke them. We had the family over for a "Fish Feed" after we got back. Just for something different we baked two Rainbows, two Laker's and two Kokes. I couldn't say I like the Koke more than the Rainbow. A bit different but good. My Wife liked the Lakers better 101smily101 Everyone else was split between the Rainbows and the Kokes. Everyone the I come across said they like them filleted and cooked like " Fish+ Chips " I guess they mean deep fried. Again, I'm not into Deep Frying either. I think I will Smoke the other Lakes's. That I like. Smoked Fish and Beer 101cheers101

being from the south, fried is the best way to cook everything. i do eat a lot of grilled fish though. i have had very little smoked fish. i have a cousin in portland now that used to live in anchorage and i have eaten some smoked salmon from him.
we even fry pickles down south. that is one thing that i was not sure of the first time i had them, but they are good.

That's a new one on me. I've had "Fried Green Tomatoes" after I watched the movie. Fried Pickles, sounds kinda strange, but I'll try it sometime. I think it might go well with Farmer Sausage and Perogy's thumbsup
