Saturday I fished the Columbia below the John Day dam for sturgeon with my cousin. Compared to other boats we had a slow day getting very few bites. But compared to other boats we had a banner day catching keepers. We both caught our one keeper. It was a nice day with little wind.

I like it. Use to fish for sturgeon when I lived in Cal. I always wanted to make a trip to the Columbia. Maybe someday I will.

Fished for sturgeon once, never caught one. It's on my bucket list. I've had sturgeon in restaurants, and it is real tasty. Almost like a steak.

Nice fish FRG, congrats. Here where I am in Idaho its catch and release only. Not even allowed to take them out of the water. Pretty endangered here.

I will be going out on Friday hoping to get one like that. Nice fish. FYI out-of-staters we have a slot limit here on sturgeon only able to keep between 38" and 54" measured tip of nose to fork in tail. Only able to retain on Th-Fr-Sa.

I actually prefer to fish for sturgeon over salmon - just seem to have more opportunities. I primarily fish on the Willamette near Portland or on the Multnomah Channel. I have also fished for oversized on the Columbia near Rooster Rock. They are fun to catch! Here is one from the Willamette a couple of weeks ago.

Nice fish Russ! Is that the boat you've been working on all winter? Your teasing us with that picture... WE WANT PICTURES!!!thumbsup

My best keeper was 50" overall length. My dad and I tag teamed a 9 footer on the Columbia. I still want to see one of the big guys jump like they do sometimes.
And for you Silver Bullets, a picture of the boat on its maiden voyage!

There is a KFF sticker on it, above and to the right of the boat number next to a CCA sticker. thumbsup
