If so, which dodgers do you bend and how much do you bend them? Do you give them a sharp bend or a gentle bend? Thanks for your opinions!

I only bend my sling blades and the amount of bend depends on what I am trying to accomplish.

Mostly, I bend just towards the back (or wide end) from the middle. The best way I have heard to describe how much bend is just so the blade lays across you thigh. The bend allows me to put a lot of action to the hoochie/tube at very slow speeds, 1.1mph. More bend, more action up to a point.

The bend also means that the blade will start spinning at slower speeds also. For faster trolling, above 1.5 I use blades with only a slight bend or no bend at all.

I will try and post a picture a little late that shows the bend.

A dodger isn't really any different than how we fish any lure. We put it in the water at our trolling speed and see what it does. I tend to bend all dodgers as I think they are produced and packaged as flat as possible for space. Sling blade or RMT's come very flat IMO. I bend the very back 1/4 or 1/3 of the dodger down and the front 1/4 of the dodger slightly up.

Here is a picture that gives an idea of the bend. These are secret patterns and colors so don't tell anyonerolleyes

I bend just about all my dodgers. Most of them right out of the package ,just don't have enough action for me. I usually just bend them around the base of my rod holders,as it puts a uniform bend on the whole body of the dodger. A word to the wise,be careful when bending them ,as they will break.

You guys that use the macaroni bend makes me think the dodger would roll. Do you guys check to see at what speed it will happen if it does?

Yep...nose up, tail down.

But do you want them to roll? I thought the action was to swing back and forth, or is that what you are talking about, not wanting a rol?

What was once flat looking dodgers in my bag is now a bunch of deformed dodgers. Some are slightly bent, others have an "S" shape to them. I have to watch the speed on some or the rolling effect will kick in.

Good point about rolling. Mine will usually start to roll at about 1.7-1.8 mpg, when using a squid so i have to be careful to avoid this. I think what ya have behind the dodger will make a difference as to when it will roll also. Sometime depending on the circumstance I will "unbend " a dodger as it will have to much action, for conditions. My gold star dodgers are as is,they seem to have enough action right out of the package.

bend 'um

I bend all my sling blades different amounts and make sure to check that they do not spin. check at what speed they start spinning and stay below that. Mine start spinning at anywhere from 1.5 to 1.8mph depending on how much I bend them.

Nope, I don't bend mine either. Of course until now I didn't know people were doing this but guess it makes sense. I might have to give it a try but kind of makes me nervouse when I start thinking how much these things cost.

I'd be scared I'd bend them wrong and I couldn't return it back to the way I want it to work.
They work so well the way they are I never thought about altering them at all.
