Downrigger weights

Been fishing here in Calif for Kokanee for many years. I fish with Scottys and was wondering what type and weight is best for fishing here(NEW MELONES,PARDEE).
Where can I buy weights? What type is the best? I see a new one out there that sort of looks like dumbbell.
